Jay Marshall and Lefty filmed in the fall of 1996 in the theater at Magic Inc. in front of a lay audience. Fran Marshall was also in attendance. Jay was a dear friend and I miss him.
This was his signature act that he performed on The Ed Sullivan Show. Jay Marshall was a staple, honored, loved, and known, throughout the world. I am proud, and fortunate, to have known him. One year when we were in Wisconsin attending the Houdini Convention, a bunch of us stayed up late at the hotel in the whirlpool. After we got back to Chicago, and was at a Wizard Club meeting, Jay announced, proudly, that he had been in a whirlpool with Toni McDill (me). . . . I said: "Yeah, but I can do better than that. I was in a whirlpool with JAY MARSHALL!!" Everyone laughed. Jay looked very pleased. He was QUITE the lady's man. Yep, he loved the ladies.
I don’t want to be cynical or any such thing, but I can’t help suspecting that the little Lefty wasn’t the one doing the singing. As such, why was he complaining so much, with Jay doing all the real work?
