I feel like they did one around the time Lola was dying.

I started watching EastEnders again last year after about 15 years. This particular storyline is the only one I still haven't figured out.

@@leonnehaaijman4709 You’re not the only one. I know many queer people who stopped watching when the parental responsibility storyline began. They were disappointed by the erasure of gay parents and the homophobic undertones of the story.

The aftermath of Lola’s death has been one of the most embarrassing and garbage and homophobic sexist ridiculous things I’ve seen for ALL CHARACTERS (Lola, Lexi, Billy, honey, jay, Callum, Ben, etc) involved. These actors in this storyline are all so natural together … all the characters have so much history and they just bombed it into to nonsensical shreds.

In fairness, that’s not strictly true. Jay only got the month of October last year focused on his grief whereas prior to that, both just before and after Lola died, it was more focused on Ben’s denial & his eating disorder (whilst everyone assumed Jay was coping in the background). Which is fair enough as Ben needed follow up after his rape plot. And Billy has recently come into focus again now (with his new family) as the actor was unfortunately unwell during filming periods for Lola’s story. Billy has had quite a bit of focus lately, including on his grief for Lola. Only Lexi hasn’t had enough focus yet, perhaps due to the actor being a minor and not being able to film as much by law. However, she’s got a lifetime of issues to come from losing her mother and plenty of milestones without her. I suspect she’ll flip out at some point - she’s lost a lot recently. I can’t say I entirely disagree about the PR mess - there was no need for Callum to have been as sidelined as he was. But aside from a couple of months around the marathon/Nadine stuff, Jay has barely been onscreen since last year, and after years of underuse, I don’t resent him a little bit of spotlight for 1 year - he deserves that. You also don’t have to view Lola & Jay as endgame - most of us didn’t. All that needs to be believable for his grief to make sense, was that Jay loved her more than she loved him. And that was always the case, hence why this bereavement was one too many and tipped him over the edge. With that said, I hope EE start moving Jay on beyond the ghost of Lola now as the show is milking her death a bit now and he needs a new way forward.

They were just looking out for Lexi. Jay took ket on their sofa and put Lexi through so much pain. They had every right to tell him to fix up.

Yh he may have only been married to her a few months but they were close since teenagers and he made bad choices whilst he was grieving

Aside from a couple of weeks around the marathon/Nadine stuff in April, Jay has barely been in focus onscreen for the last 9 months or so. He’s most certainly being rested already. I also wouldn’t say he’s faced zero consequences either. He’s lost his drivers licence for 3 years and has no relatives left other than a foster family that he once again discovered would rather turn their back on him & leave him to rot instead of actively trying to help support him. Oh and not to mention he got scammed by a hooker with the promise of the one thing he most wants in the world - some offspring. That’s gotta hurt…🫣

Now I do totally think they’ve overdone it with almost making Lola into a martyr after death 😂. It’s become ridiculous, especially when so much of it hasn’t been centered around LEXI.

@mechellemybell1000 she was boring as hell, she even got axed for several years because she was boring. She was.... a chav.... and a mum. That's all I can really say about her, there was nothing else to her.
