Except when they knew exactly where to look (with sniffer dogs) from Day 1 (and *didn't*...the alternative being that his body wasn't there for most of the time)...
@@keithtomey5046 or it was there all the time and they knew it was there.. a bit suspect they called off the search ages ago but on the eve of outside "foreign search teams" help they suddenly find him next to where his fone last pinged. Very odd with all the other odd things in this case. IMO 😢
This channel was correct about the ravine but there is plenty of evidence that he wasn't at Ayubs for a game of connect 4 and a Horlicks, I'd like this to get solved because Ayub and Lucy don't make sense. Furthermore I'd like to constructively criticise the conflation ( possibly deliberate) here of ' we've found his body' with ' there was no dodgy dealings or foul play' . All finding the body proves is that he wasn't dumped in the sea by someone else. Many, including myself would argue that the evidence points toward something fishy going on leading up to him leaving the apartment, which opens the door to him being pushed into that ravine or simply running scared. It simply doesn't add up.
Bang on mate. It just requires critical thinking. I don't think we'll ever know imo the forensics left it to long. Body to decomposed. The b n b being cleaned and painted. The rental car now long gone
@@wulfhere83I never said they did. It's a big possibility. Also highly possible he was that panicked he was in tunnel vision and genuinly fell. Funny he was found there just before this expert team came in though eh. "He came alive and left alive" that wording in itself is suspicious. I've never known anyone to use that type of wording for someone they knew innocently. Unless they had something to hide. This person is also unreliable as a witness, booking b and b in false names and his past. The inconsistencies in Lucy, Brad saying he slipped. The times and placings of everything. The blood on the b and b steps, The painting afterward and cleanup. none of it adds up unless you swallow everything you're told
Here in the UK we have the county of Cumbria (The Lake District) in the North West of England. On average the emergency services are called out 500 times per year, and 25 of those cases result in a fatality! If the circumstances were similar to that of the Jay Slater case then the results could be the same, for sure we will never know. In the USA many experienced hikers are reported missing and their bodies are never recovered and some are discovered after many years of the families not knowing where their loved ones are. I have visited Tenerife many times and the heat is almost unbearable at times and the terrain in the mountainous region is treacherous to say the least even some of the roads with their shear drops are very dangerous....RIP Jay 💔
i did not believe your stats.....................until i googled it...............that alone means not enough people know how dangerous it is.......hence a good supply of takers each year .....shocking statistic ......
The confusing thing is that Ayub has said that a friend rang him that morning telling him that Jay was lying in a ditch. Surely that would constitute an accident/emergency and not a missing person report. And how did they know he was ‘in a ditch’ he can’t have called anyone after he’d fallen? There are many oddities in this case. RIP Jay.
I don’t personally have any screen recordings or evidence of this. Someone else has a record of it for sure as it has been posted on sm. Of course, it could have been a figure of speech.
@@adcashmo not much can be verified in this case, even things said in interviews, but, it was said by AQ in his voice, that said it could have been AI. I wasn’t in a room with him when he said it
Why did his mother receive that text message to say that she would never see her son again, he owed him money. She kicked off all the assumptions. But that aside, I can’t imagine the pain she will be in right now. That’s a life changing heartbreak.
Sadly when there are major stories, there are hoaxers, who get a sick kick out of distracting from the job in hand. One case is the Yorkshire Ripper: a hoaxer left misleading phone messages to the press and police, sending them on a wild goose chase for a Geordie man (from Newcastle or Sunderland), when Peter Sutcliffe was from Yorkshire.

That poor, poor young lad with his whole life ahead of him. My heart breaks for his family & friends. Pray to the Almighty that he didn't suffer. The people that found Jay should receive bravery awards. Thank you Nick-- you were right all along.(Am addicted to your channel).
How he was ever found in that terrain honestly was a miracle. The searcher or searchers who tackled those trains and found him really are absolute heroes because it really is a needle in a haystack. As devastating as it is that he lost his life so young I’m grateful that his family have answers and can lay him to rest.
Yes, thank you for pointing out that they are heroes. So many focusing on 'why did they take so long?' rather than giving them the praise they deserve. As someone who lives on the island I can confirm that they risked life and limb finding him in that area.
I am seriously tired of hearing the criticism regarding this search. Jay was in a dangerous terrain. Those critics were not even part of the search. Some people never get found, and the only reason Jay was found was because they had some clue as to a location.
Yes they had a clue of his location and they had sniffer dogs and drones and numerous people searching, this is why people can't understand why it took so long .I would have thought a sniffer dog being taken to the last known location would have picked up a scent , surely the scent would have been continuous in the direction Jay was heading or does his scent just suddenly just stop .
Whilst this just seems to be a tragic accident it would be really interesting to find out exactly what went on in the run up to Jay seemingly falling. Why did that Ayub guy take him miles away to that air B&B when he could have helped him get to his hotel that was much closer? Why did Jay not want to wait a couple more hours at the Air B&B for that bus and then walk uphill with very little battery that he could've charged at the Air B&B if he'd have waited around? Why was he also so keen to go off road? ...........................Still so many questions on this one.
Because when you read between the lines quite literally a young lad out of his head trying coke gets into a conversation with a known dealer... He'll of asked to come back and carry on "partying".. they've got back gone to bed pissed so he's decided to leave, he's panicked once he's sobered up and his 19 year old brain told him you can do it
Qassim said he would drive him after they got up and had breakfast (logical)... For whatever reason (and which is not relevant to the case) Jay did not want to wait those hours (I guess it wouldn´t be before noon).
@@ExplorewithSarahlouise You are right that there is no logic But Jay Dean Slater lacked logic at the time. He was on high. Full of energy (actually it was just the feeling of having energy) and not reasoning... if we look at the whole tragic sequence we see that his ability to reason was very impaired. If he had rested... he would have regained that capacity and would never have marched north... he would never have gone out the road and finally he would never have gone into one of the most treacherous mountainous areas in the world.
My first thought when I knew Jay Slater was missing was - no way will they find him in that terrain soon. People think it is easy to just spot a body because it’s outside, it’s not. Especially if you add in that he was likely attempting to climb rocks that only skilled rock climbers would climb. Those areas are pretty much inaccessible unless you know where to go to climb.
Jay's family is actually lucky they even managed to find his body. It's not that uncommon for missing hikers to never be found again because of difficult terrain to be searched (or their bodies get found YEARS later by pure chance).
RIP Jay. Your family will now be able to lay you to rest. 🙏🙏. Most people have never seen the type of topography this young man found himself in. Special thoughts to his family. 💖💖
@@PatriciaDowrick-ux3kc No... dogs not always smell a scent... The case is over. .There are only a few procedures left. The autopsy, DNA recognition and finally, the repatriation of the body so that the family can bury him in the privacy they wish. People should be ashamed of what was said about them.
Thank you Nick, for keeping the true crime boat steady through this case. I respect the searchers who found him, they had the skills to look in the difficult areas. A very sad outcome 😢
Just because they found him does not exclude the possibility that he was running away from someone. I still want to know if he had the watch on him. Maybe if the authorities had held a press conference the speculation wouldn’t have been so rife. It’s human nature. Can’t really blame social media. I do agree it went too far including some really vile trolling.
Spaniards don´t hold press conferences...Where´s the problem? Jay has been found in relatively short time for that labyrinth. They had to work discreetly and get rid of so many nutjobs who were just annoying, so it was decided to say that the search was called off (but in reality it continued only with the mountain group). Thanks to these men from Guardia Civil, Jay Dean Slater will come back home. Of course we would all have wanted him to return safely... but life is not a Netflix series I'm afraid.
@@garbancitolentejas486 well that is exactly the problem then. If the Guardia Civil held press conferences or gave a bit more information then perhaps that would reduce speculation, conspiracy theories and all that vile nonsense. Trolls are gonna troll though I see that. I’m guessing Netflix documentary incoming however.
@@memememineme I know and I understand your point of view. But Guardia Civil is a Military Force (not police) under Military laws. By other side, their style from 1844 is the same "Actions speak louder than voice". We cannot make a almost 200 years old Corps change its methods and way of working (always silently). I know parents will want to go to court to defend the conspiracy thesis. They will waste time and money but I understand them. It is very hard for a family to accept that the loss of their child is due solely to their child's own actions. No 19-year-old should die...but Slater is the only one responsible for Slater's death.
@@TCRSIt's great content but I feel you completely ignore why he took the path of most resistance. Why he didn't go back to the Airbnb and by all reports was too scared too. It has ended in a tragic accident but obviously something significant happened or was about to happen at that Airbnb that made him take such a path.
If you review the masca Gorge hike and look at videos you will realise the enormity of danger lurking everywhere. In particular, one website acknowledges these worrying cliffs that run close to waterfalls in the area. A pair of trainers on dry, rugged land with no grip and inexperience was a disaster waiting to happen. RIP JAY you have played on my mind from the start having a son the same age. At least he spent his last days doing what he loved, music and dancing. Now your parents can start their grieving process knowing they can lay you to rest. We were all young and made silly choices, just sad this one led you to this ending.
What i took away from the title is that the autopsy being 'difficult' means they might not be quite able to determine the actual cause of death or what lead to the fall, if it was the fall that killed him
What drove this young man...... that he wasn't prepared to wait two hours for a bus? What drove this young man...... making him walk in the opposite direction? What drove this young man...... to make him leave, knowingly that his cellphone wasn't charged? These are questions that I continuously ask myself....... Will we ever know?
@@OllieGriggI personally think, people really cared about what happened to this young man. For a month we watched this story unfold and being broadcast around the world. Obviously his family needs to know first what had happened. But do you honestly think that people who have been following this enigma, do not have the right to know the outcome?
Because he was an eejit ? I mean, it's RIDICULOUS terrain to stray off the trackways in ... unless you're in mountaineering gear [not just a pair of berghaus hiker boots and a camelback either, it's SEVERE up there if you're not experienced and properly equipped]. The suggestion that he 'couldn't go back' or was 'scared to go back' could quite easily mean the for terrain and nothing more. I believe that's as high up as many mountains in the UK GET and those are not short cliffs to fall down. It seems to me that he might even have been enough of an eejit not to have had his mate call for help and stay put at the known location they had for him, but then, his mate doesn't exactly strike me as a brain of britain type either. With what we now know, that Mark Williams Thomas fella should be ashamed of himself, but then, he obviously wasn't ashamed before when he kept pretending he was handling super secret stuff he never was eh ?
My question is simple, what had him so scared that he wouldn't return to the Air bnb, and why would anyone leave the road to traverse that terrain knowing a simple slip could be deadly so why did he feel safer to take a chance than stay on the road?
I read last week that a police officer? I don’t no who he was, had said for some reason Jay left the road to go through the terrain, or was he cutting through the terrain because he was running away from something or someone instead of sticking to the road were he would have eventually have got help. I just can’t help thinking of this now, if only he had stuck to the road path 😢 I hope your soul RIP Jay ❤
If he had stolen the watch, he claimed to, that would be reason enough to leg it. He told his mates that he & 2 others stole the watch. My belief is he went to the B& B to get his cut, but decided to grab it for himself. Hence, why he wouldn't go back & probably reckoned they would find him if he stuck to the road.
I thought you were drunk or having a stroke, then realized my playback speed was set to .5 This is the typical depth of my insight; I always appreciate yours!
The thing most people are missing... in the video of Ayub and the other 2 guys stood on the pillars, atleast one if not two of them are smoking and pointing up at the sky.. in rap/drill culture this signifies smoking a dead enemy. Putting opps in packs they were mocking the situation
Oh, no! I've been focusing all my attention on the attempted assassination of Trump. I didn't realize that Jay Slater's remains had been found. And now there's doubts that the autopsy may not yield the information the coroner needs to determine the cause of death. This is such a tragedy.
Thank you for this excellent summary! So great to hear a South African voice... I am a South African living in the UK. I have followed the case from beginning to end and I am sorry that Jay Slater has lost his life, but I am glad that his body has been found.
Im watching so many creators who are saying its sinister as he was a criminal and he got involved with bad people and that might be true. But he is someones child and one creator called his parenting into question. Can you imagine how his poor mum and dad feel, they have lost their child had to wait 29 days to find his body and are now being slagged off by armchair detectives. Its hard being a parent especially a parent of a teen in London, you can only do your best and I truly believe they did. Sending my deepest condolences to his poor mum and dad and family, whatever has happened we need to remember he is someones 19 year old son. Rest in peace young one 💙#jayslater
Its a great shame that all the Morons here and other social media channels that took the time to accuse Lucy, his parents and the two black guys of wrong doing haven't got the decency to say sorry, I was wrong.
@@garbancitolentejas486 they'll never apologize. Sad world. This entire situation was turned into a circus for views. And it's still happening. The same people who swore Jay was hiding, his mommy knew it- they were just waiting for the money to get to a large amount than he would turn up. Those same ppl, Now want to make it into a murder conspiracy. it's been so ridiculous. The young man was inebriated, with no sleep, he took a shortcut in unknown terrain and fell. It's no conspiracy. This story is driving me crazy. Ppl watch too much TV. I feel horrible for what his family is going through. People have the nerve to ask what the family will use the go fund me money for. How dare they. It's not cheap to fly a body home than have funeral arrangements made. My lord they have to bury their son, ppl are so heartless.
@frankandrewjames7805 Oh come on, all the circumstances are a bit sketchy so there was always going to be speculation. He had gone back to an air bnb 20 miles away with 2 strangers (1 who's a known dealer) instead of going back to his apartment which was a few miles away. Then he decides to leave 2-3 hours later to walk home instead of waiting for a bus or having a lift with the 2 he was staying with. Then for some strange reason goes offroad walking through such dangerous terrain that only seasoned hikers can access but somehow managed to get far enough into the mountains that it took nearly a month to find him. All this while he was dehydrated and intoxicated from the night before. Also let's not forget the retired police officers claims that he had evidence that Jay was too scared to stay at the bnb any longer. There's a lot more to this than it being a tragic accident
Sorry to hear that. Too many people in the comments sections of these videos don't even realise that Jay's family are actually lucky they managed to find his body so they can have some closure. It's not that infrequent for missing hikers to not be found for YEARS.
its common, Everest is littered with dead bodies that can't even be removed. when you die up there you stay there and become a land marker for other climbers and stark reminder of the harshness of nature
Thank you for your incisive coverage of this ultimately uncomplicated but tragic case. That terrain is certainly fearsome and difficult. I hope Jay didn’t suffer 🙏
Hi my husband’s family come from and live not far from Masca, and my mother in law told me yesterday after he was found that the gossip of the village is”don’t say anything to anyone”
But the AirB&B had to be searched, if only to eliminate it from the list of places where 'something might have happened'. Even the somewhat wild theories need to be taken into account to some degree, just in case.
@@leeslog555 It is no longer a disappearance and in the absence of an autopsy (next week)... the case will be closed as an accidental death. Whatever was the reason he went to that house and whatever were the reasons why he left... it is only up to the Somalis and poor Jay. Guardia Civil (and British Police) may know why he went... but Guardia Civil will never say anything... it is part of Jay's private life... no one has the right to pry into it. No one has the right to sully his name, especially now that he is, unfortunately, no longer able to defend himself. Pending the autopsy... it's a closed case. RIP.
I think 29 days is remarkable and a great effort by those searches and in that terrain a miracle he was found at all. I have been following a case of a young man that went missing Adine Clune who went missing in Nevada where the terrain is quite open and easy going and they had a lot more clues such as footprints to follow. They have just found his shoes in the last month, he has been missing since 2022 and the search for him began the day after he wandered off in the desert after parking his truck at the side of the road.
Sorry this doesn’t seem right to me, how is the most logical route for a 19 year old in shorts a 12 hour walk when he’s near a village with buses and prob a cafe etc and people he knew offered to drop him off. I hope they don’t just drop this case.

Still a lot of questions I believe.. did he really say he was scared? Why if so. Did he steal a watch as posted on his tick tock and was he found with said watch. A fall is a perfect crime if pushed because didn't someone say he was in a ravine? these are questions that can eliminate or suspect foul play, with the pictures of the 3 monkeys so close also proves they was there where that phone pinged just saying. Jay refused, and he felt uncomfortable and left... no one kept him... In Spain, consensual sexual relations are fully legal from the age of 16. If they made a proposition to Jay and the boy said no and he didn't want to stay there and they didn't force him... it's all perfectly legal. Omg you’re banging on about people on social media , you did the same , conspiracy and speculation. Take your own advice sir 🫨 RIP to Jay condolences to his family.
The lad fell only have to watch people seaching to see how easy it is to slip and fall. Im amazed he got that far down but, maybe the desperation of being lost pushed him onward and into a more unknowing dangerous spot. He wasnt making good decisions based on age, lack of sleep, probably still intoxicated along with dehydration and delerious. Whatever happened prior is not that relevant when he fell. So why people still want to cling onto a mystery i am not sure. He was a young lad and its still tragic that he died alone like that.
British media is extremely vile and toxic... All foreign authorities are seen as inferior, incompetent, ignorant and lazy by the Brits. The arrogance and vile rhetoric throughout has been seriously stomach churning. I can't begin to imagine what Jay's family have been through and still are going through... Such a horrible tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with Jay's family during this difficult time.
@Claire sorry, so what UK press have you seen all this vile rhetoric about foreigners in? That's a big accusation so I'm sure you can name the news sources, approximate dates so we can see. I'm in the UK , i'm a big consumer of news and I haven't seen it. There was a family friend who said they wanted UK police involved which was reported, but I haven't seen what you describe. However I have seen it plenty from an international group of creators and commenters on international social media. Don't start more gaslighty tales that aren't true, based on assumption, there's really been enough of it.
Ps and don't get me wrong, there was a degree of that in the McCann case years ago. But not in this and it's not been a specifically English thing to criticise the search. So maybe stop scapegoating English people for every American, Australian and whoever whose been shooting their mouth off on the internet with daft theories.
@@Flowersofromance6-fs4pb For a person who consumes high volumes of mass British media, you're living under a rock! BBC, Daily Mail, Daily Record, TalkTV, GBN News, The Independent, Sky News... If you have your head in the sand, that's purely your prerogative. The British investigator, Jay's family, Jay's friends, the British media et al. were all lambasting the Spanish authorities throughout. The sheer arrogance and ignorance was truly appalling. Excellent and sensible analysis all the way through this, TCRS. I'm looking forward to Mark Williams-Thomas' next update on his, ahem, "investigation".
I’m going to correct you in regards to Nicola Bulley. The reason a lot of people felt she was pushed was because the uk right up until this day has had a spate of deaths in a similar fashion resulting in a theory that there could indeed be a serial killer at large. Here’s the recent documentary discussing this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UOeg_7KaGWY.htmlsi=0JlCrORyIjujqNty
Oh dear. "I'm going to correct you..." In the context of what has just happened in this case? You really, really, really shouldn't be here on this channel. What are you doing here?
Mate you can fly a drone all around that terrain! You gave no idea how good drones actually are thesedays 😂 a body decomposing for a month would give off such a stench there is no way on this earth there was no signs he was down there all along! Then to top it off all the lies from the ones who last spoke to and saw him says there is so much more to this than just an "accident" but you believe what you like
Jay was likely at the bottom of a ravine, Spanish specialist search teams found him. They are professional rock climbers. Jay fell downwards so he was well out of sight. We don't know if they could smell it when near, but very likely they did. No drones or dogs would have found him. It was skill they found Jay.
@garbancitolentejas486 because when people use words like critical thinking yet ignore the sheer blatant fact everyone involved has told different stories (lies) in regards to when they last spoke or saw him and deny foul play so easily is nieve at best and needs to be addressed. So many accept what they are fed and never question things and its why the world is falling apart! Question EVERYTHING!
@@oliverdoyle3172 I really like the Aristotelian logic, Bacon´s rationalist thinking and Hulme´s logic positivism (after reading the unlogic barbarities that some people have written here... I jus begun to doubt that they were English). And you are right: we have to question everything... from logical postulates and always based on facts. That's what I like about this channel. True Crime Rocket treats everything with respect and always letting the facts explain the events without twisting them to serve theories almost turned into religious postulates. Next week we will have the autopsy results. I won't be at all surprised if it confirms today's scan: death by polytrauma caused by a fall from a height. On a theoretical level, I agree with you: when the facts cannot be explained, everything must be questioned. What happens in this case is everything can be explained in a simple way but at the same time very tragic and sad way.
@garbancitolentejas486 The main reason I side with something fishy and it not being so black and white is the question as to why he was up there? 2/3 different reasons from the 2/3 people to last speak to or see him. That alone, for me, rings alarm bells. His supposed friends claim he went for an after party while the people he was supposed to be having this after party with suggest they never had that motive and even claim something completely different in regards to why he was with them. Again, it doesn't sit right and definitely shouldn't be over looked imo. I doubt we will ever truly know as it will be classed as an accident as it's easier than a murder case. Atleast the family have a body to bury as sad as that is.
I feel like this is such a pattern in true crime. Instead of investigating for the answer, we think up the answer and try to find a way to arrive there. Thank you for your true crime ticket science POV

The Spanish were on the right track with Madeline McCann. (Mark whats-it was ‘part of that inquiry’ also) which clearly failed miserably to this very day. And… the Spanish police, (edited-I meant Portuguese 👍)obviously did NOT cease all searches for Jay. Theyve found him
If Jay had annoyed the wrong person by stealing their watch - he might have got a slap rather than die from a slip. Truly a tragic story made worse by speculation and conjecture.
I visit Tenerife from the uk very often and have been trecking on my own in the Mountains . It is very easy, especially when decending , to gather momentum and be unable to stop , because of the very small larva stones that act as rollers under your feet . I very nearly came a cropper on my own at Los Gigantes . Slipping off the footpath . I was alone, and no one would have noticed .
I agree about the terrain being treacherous, I hike a lot and even with appropriate footwear I still occasionally slip and fall, usually getting away with just a few bruises and a dented ego...
Yes, skiddy stones. I've got a permanent foot injury from falling off a raised path round a pond in flat UK countryside, due to exactly that. My foot was near the edge but by a safe margin I thought, but little pebbles and gravel acted like ball bearings and I skidded off.

Like all deaths, It comes under the jurisdiction of where it happened, so Spain. Spain will do a PM for their investigation, regardless of anyone 'insisting'.
