The fact Eminem kept the “shoe fits I’ll wear it” 5 syllable scheme up for this entire verse pretty much with plenty internal rhymes in there too is masterful. The man manages to rhyme “lucrative lyrics” and “do good at marriage” with it too😭 crazy🔥

@@bruh7928 agreed. I rate jay-z as a rapper but I honestly think he’s so overrated, I dunno if it’s just me🤷🏻‍♂️. Do people really think he’s a better lyricist than Lupe, king los, Nas, black thought etc, the man doesn’t make my top 10.

@@colincampbell7227 he is really good but he isn't on the level of even Royce or Rugged Man. Jay just had a discog to boast which again is inconsistent just like Nas and is very beatable if you take someone like k dot or Lupe. He does great Wordplay tho.

@@colincampbell7227 I think you have a "lyrical" mindset, which is why you cited the camp that is usually cited there. Thing is, people admire hov in rap for the same reason people admire people like Pac or even Em. Best rappers are not necessarily who has the most technical skill, but a combination of who has the impact, the artistic creativity and daring at their times, the skill, flow, storytelling capacity, influence, discography and so on. He may not be the most lyrical of the goats list, but his impact speaks for itself, and his influence loses arguably only to Biggie and Pac. That's why Locksmith is a great lyricist, yet he still isn't in anyone's top 5. It's more than just lyrics.

@@elderlyoogway yeah that’s what I’m referring to when I’m saying top 5 though, should have made that clear sorry. If we’re talking impact and discography then hov would be in my top 5 definitely. I just think there’s a lot more skilled rappers than hov, just my opinion though.

There's one thing Jay did though that blew em away. Em had sheets that he was reading off of and was practicing over and over. Jay rocks up to the studio empty handed with just what he was playing through his head for the day and lets out.

Jay-Z is addressing the critics who scolded and called him out while rapping to a black, hood audience. He's speaking on how he's their voice and the critics dont actually listen to what he says or relate. He's a renegade because they can't comprehend what he's doing for his people in his music, only giving their gritty opinions. While they don't understand what he says or what he does, he's got an entire audience of people who use his music theraputically for their tough times. Eminem is addressing his common every-album critics, rapping to central America, a whiter and more mixed audience. He's speaking on how critics, politicians, and other public figures despise his music and want to silence him when all he does is speak his mind. Talking about how they portray him as a villain when really his music is authentic and helpful for the soul. At this point in time he was the average American parent's worst nightmare in terms of what their child was consuming, when in actuality all he does is help those children and people, and entertain them while speaking his heart. I love the narrative of this song, what they say, and how they're bringing two audiences and perspectives together. They really are "Renegades" or "Rebels" to the critics. This whole concept is something I enjoy, not just Eminem's verse.

I don’t know what comment sections you read but it’s Eminem who’s been having his name dragged through the dirt. All that “You don’t belong in the culture” and snoop with the “I could live without his music” straight slander. Jay is always brought up as top three though 😂
@Strommunism
@Strommunism 2 года назад
@@isaiahgarcia163 Snoop was pissed because Em didn't call him back for a feature, that wasn't what he actually thought. Two of them got up in their feelings over nothing. I always thought that was all for show since the beef started and wrapped up neatly just in time for the Super Bowl. Also, Em's gotta take the good with the bad. Jay doesn't have haters like Em, but that's because he doesn't have fans like Em. I watched a clubhouse recently where they were listening to SSLP and every single track, half the people said "Fire. Like Shakespeare. Absolutely incredible," and the other half said "Trash. Pure trash." People don't feel any type of way about Jay like they do Em. What I mean is Jay doesn't generate potent feelings in people--not because he's not a great MC (I'd put him 1b after Eminem who is 1a to me). For every hater in the comments, Em has 10 stans shouting them down. That's why people pretend like they want beef with Em. If Game dissed Jay, would anyone listen? No. If Game dissed Em, all of Em's haters and all of Em's stans would be listening. That's why Jay could barely move records at the end even with massive ad campaigns and corporate crossovers, meanwhile Em goes #1 every album (with some albums on Billboard for decades) and he doesn't do any promotion. He won't even say if there's an album coming out. Fans know nothing about his next album and it'll go #1 whenever its released, that's how hotly anticipated it is. Again, I'm not detracting from Jay's status as God MC, but Em built a career off controversy. That's why he's top 10 for monthly listeners on Spotify and top 5 on RU-vid and Jay isn't even in the top 30.

Jay's verses are severely underrated. However, Em is too brilliant here. He clearly had the better verses.
