I mean, obviously Tony was killing. But I gotta give a shoutout to the horns. To have the chops and endurance to blast like that lol. I could never. My lips would be shot 2 minutes in.
@@Dave-bo8ry Ah okay....I haven't read about this sample info in years, I thought Isaac Hayes remade it. I know he did the other Shaft movies. But Thank You for the nostalgia and info! 💜
I think he could’ve been turned up a little more and he was clean with it as you have to be live and in a performance like this but I think they should have given his some more leeway to put a little more funk on it however he wanted to do it but he was killing it
@@JudgeDredd_ I agree. Maybe they kept the level down cause at certain points there are intonation discrepancies. No matter, he is cutting through. Tenor sax man.... nothing like it. Cheers dude.
I love how flabbergasted Jay-Z is at how tight the band it (drummer Tony Royster, Jr. In particular) that he miscues and nearly messes up his own song! LOVE IT!! YEAH T-ROY!!!
Notice how during the verses when the drum break comes up he goes easy to give Jay Z room, and only sheds on the breaks where there’s nothing else going on. Would expect nothing less from Tony
Indeed! The tenor sax has presence! I also like how they had him play over the sample and then he played the line and they blended it in. Lovely stuff.
showing respect to the musicianship and talent you surround yourself with is something a lot of Stars could learn from. The story is that Horácio ("el Négro") Hernández, one of the greatest, and humblest, drummers of our time, lost his seat on someone's, who will go unnamed, tour. One of the highest paying gigs lost because he got a good review on his drumming! Jay-z doesn't look like that kind of artist at all here.
I like how they showed Jay-Z's video at first and then they couldn't deny Tony's drumming talent so they showed the rest of the performance on the jumbo tron screen.
freaking HILARIOUS when Jay -Z forget where he's at in the song because he's so mesmerized by Tony on the drums and at 3:25 he's looking at his boys like "Damn are y'all seeing this????" Tony's awesome
@@timoaksproductions Bru that shit is iconic tony a beast ever since the greatest the greatest solo ever been recorded just think we are the first generation to be old enough to see the a lot of the first classics viral videos
I've been singing this song to my 7-month-old granddaughter and playing with her arms going back and forth Aye aye. So I said I had to come here and listen to this song with my grandbaby and jam. The drummer beat them drums up he killed it. So did Jay-Z. The band is the bomb!
one thing people lined up to watch jay z's concert coz of his music crew, the artists/musicians the he have are so talented. its like he has an orchestra at his back..
I will give you FIVE FAT DOLLARS if that _isn't_ young TONY ROYSTER JR. on those drums. Tony Royster Jr., I recall, being in a _humiliatingly_ dope drum-video _way_ back when ... he was, like, nine. maybe. we shared this, we spread this way around back BEFORE 'Tube, torrents, all that - it was Limewire, it was Kazaa. it just sounds like him. that's one of the freshest drum sounds there is. that's so clean it hurts. it may not be him. I don't know. but if it ISN'T ... that is one crazy, crazy drummer. that's our future. look forward to it.
NO NO NO that drummer ain't nothing compared to the original drummer in the studio that actually made the song. Go to "The making Show me what you got" on RU-vid and you'll see what I'm talking about.
I've seen the original drummer. He had to keep his fills up to a point for studio recording. He couldn't go absolute beast mode. And he is good. But Tony was allowed to go insane on this because it's live. Tony is nuts on this.
