Raspberry PI 3B+ are now discontinued and essentially hard to purchase / locate- Recommend purchasing PI 4- 4gb model for this project.
This is not a plug and play device, you will need to have some basic knowledge with Raspberry Pi and configuration + minor coding. Some tutorials referenced below to assist.

Hi All :).. thought i would provide an update of my ordeal and provide a warning to anyone buying this cabinet and using a pi 4.. First off, a huge thanks to Arloss for that walkthru, even tho basically it is how the so called manual says to do it, his walkthru is great ! Now! within minutes i was getting the gpio stick sorted, to the point i can do it with my eyes closed, lol :).. but little Did i know i was about to get sucked into a rabbit hole that i really didnt want to go down :(.. this is what happened :).. i started to look for an image (and with this machine, it HAS to be a retropie image, not recal box, batercera etc..) having a pi 4, there not as a big selection out there. Any way i found a couple of images i wanted to try and find the one i was going to keep in the machine, when EVERY image i downloaded had sound problems (ie NONE! ) i was starting to get a little haggard, as downloading a couple of 128gig images only to find the sound didn't work was stressful to say the least. Obviously i had to sort it, and i had over 60 tabs on my browser open at one stage, trying to figure this out, it wasn't gonna beat me! So.. after nearly 2 weeks of dead ends i came across a page that mentioned a couple of little gems i didnt know about my new(to me) pi 4..one! around 2020 they changed something with the audio. added another mixer or something and Retro pie hasn't really addressed it fully yet.. OK! remember at the start i said i got a Warning tip about the pi 4 ? BECAUSE OF THE @@#$ audio changes a couple of years back, YOU MUST USE THE HDMI PORT CLOSEST TO THE POWER PORT, or hello sound problems.. now comes the sad part :) after i learned that, i thought to myself, surely the guy i bought this off plugged the bloody hdmi cable in the right place?? ( excuse me while i have a stiff drink here.. ) So i look at the pi AND SURE ENOUGH! my reason for a fortnights worth of pain was revealed! :(,,, Hope this may help anyone out in future if they come across it.. cheers guys :)

Glad you got it working in the end mate! There is always something with these devices hey lol. Yeah I found it easiest to build my own image and rip roms from pre built images when using this device in particular. Again glad you got yours working, happy gaming : )

having a few issues with the joystick config. In street fighter games, its pretty hard to pull off moves. have briefly messed with input settings in retroarch but still not feeling right. any advice? I have set up the input in retropie as digital up, down, left right on the stick.

Sorry no, controls can be a bit tricky to set up. I have since moved to batocera and am toying around with a new build, find it a bit more reliable.

Couldn't get GPIOnext to detect the joystick and buttons, was using a preloaded old image of retropie 4.4.3. Ended up installing mkarcadejoystick within retropie and then the joystick and buttons got detected when configuring the joystick.

Great video, I just purchased this from jaycar and I have a raspberry pi 3b which I have overclocked and have emulationstation. Is the joystick and buttons just plug and play using that pin connector, and connecting the power and hdmi? Where did you get the aftermarket buttons and joysticks from? Are they easy to replace in this cabinet?
@arlosarcades
@arlosarcades 2 месяца назад
Hey mate, to set up the joysticks and buttons you have to run a script when first fire up emulationstation. There should be instructions that simply guide you through the scripts. Otherwise jaycar website has the guide on their website. As far as the buttons, they are your generic sanwa Chinese arcade joystick and buttons that you can buy through wish / ebay / aliexpress. Just disconnect and reconnect new ones. There should be links in my video to the above and comments section has some further guides 👍🏻

hey bro I've been trying to play some fighting games as street fighter vs x man, the king of fighters, etc and the controller doesn't respond properly. very hard to make the moves, combos, etc Is it normal or has some way to improve it? thanks bro
@arlosarcades
@arlosarcades 9 месяцев назад
Hey mate I think it comes down to the type of arcade stick and buttons you have. It comes stock with an 8 way stick. I replaced the stock ones with another 8 way stick and some clear buttons from ali express however made no difference with gameplay. The stock controls and the ones I replaced them with are cheap. I found I could pull of moves however takes a little bit of practice. I would say if you can find higher quality 8 way joysticks and buttons and swap them out then you would have improved gameplay.
@ruriabrandao

@arlosarcades got it bro. The controller I have is the one who cokes in the original jaycar 10" screen, for hack slash it's ok, but for fighting games...my God.. very poor. I have a Chinese snes controller who works 10x better then the jaycar arcade controller for fighting games
@arlosarcades
@arlosarcades 9 месяцев назад
@ruriabrandao yeah man, I usually stick to shmups, side scrollers and other basic games on this device. Street fighter 3 Max alpha on PSP allows 1 button special moves configs so that is good on this device. More of a display, talking piece and something to have in a man cave or just somewhere convenient to have a quick play. I personally use controllers as well and plug them into the Pi/ pc for fighting games.

@arlosarcades
@arlosarcades 2 года назад
Hey mate trust me is is a nightmare at first. Not an expert with this kind of stuff however out of like 20 pre made images I downloaded the script would only work on like 5. It is best to start from scratch, build your own image and go from there. I have not used it with recalbox or batocera however it works great on retripie images. Follow these steps if you have not done so already (the steps in between the +++++++++++++++ is where I think you may be finding issues; - Ensure you have your wifi set up on your image (again start from fresh). - Press F4 or ctrl + alt then F4 on a keyboard plugged into the PI whilst in the generic retropie menu where you toggle games / systems etc. - Enter the following script exactly as is, line by line, letting the appropriate loads take place; sudo apt update sudo apt install git python3-dev -y git clone github.com/mholgatem/GPIOnext.git cd GPIOnext sudo chmod +x * sudo ./install.sh I recall that you will then be asked if you want to allocate controller or something like that, enter y for yes and enter. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ It will then ask you how many control sticks or or something similar, select 1 and press enter. On the next screen there should be a list of buttons include start and select from memory. As there are 8 buttons on this particular arcade, you need to press the space bar which will log and x next to the first button, press down, press space bar to log another x and so on and so forth. You need to have and x selected next to 8 buttons, it does not matter what buttons, just ensure you have placed and x next to 8 buttons succinctly in order. Press enter and from memory it will take you to the page where you need to input the buttons. First it will tell you to input the joystick, hold up on the joystick when it says up, hold the joystick down when it says down, right then left. It will then list the buttons with start and select then list another 6 buttons. It does not matter what order you press the buttons however when it prompts you hold the button down until it registers and prompts you for another button. I generally press the to smaller buttons at the top when it asks for start and select in any case. once this is done I think you just save and exit when it prompts you. When you are back in the command prompt, input emulationstation to take you back to the retropie menu. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ This is where you will need a generic controller of some sort that you can generally use with a PI. I use a third party PS3 controller I bought from Big w, wired xbox 360 controllers from eb games work well too. I am sure you can use a keyboard as well however at time of writing can't recall the button, maybe enter. You now simply have to go to the emulationstation menu you access by pressing start, the menu where you can input the buttons for a controller, the one in the below link; core-electronics.com.au/guides/how-to-pair-and-map-8bitdo-sf30-pro-controller/ Select configure input- you should now see another gamepad detected, that is the arcade buttons and joystick. Hold down one of the buttons to take you to the next screen. When you are prompted to set up the controller / buttons / joystick the arcade joystick and buttons will now work. I input start and select as the two small buttons at the top, allocate the bottom 3 (a,b,x) and the top left button on the top as y. I skip from 'left shoulder' right until the hotkey. To skip button inputs, hold down a button already selected. When it asks you for a hot key I select top right button (3rd on top from the left) Now you should be good to go. This setup generally works well for the majority of systems. Holding down the hotkey and then start will exit games etc. There is a list on google for the shortcut keys in retropie. Hope this helps mate, let me know if any further issues.

@@arlosarcades mate thank you! @@anton69ize Yeah the instructions that are provided are only for the scripts to be installed, no other context around what else needs to be done. It is not geared towards the average arcade enthusiast as you need a very small degree of knowledge when it comes to the PI and coding etc. Again if no luck I will do a video tutorial and load it on my page.
