I hate that they never brought up the fact that Carly has asthma again! Especially with all the fires that Spencer starts & could have triggered her asthma & made for an intents storyline. She doesn’t have to have a huge asthma attack but small hints to her asthma would have been nice. Because it was never brought up again & it’s like the writers threw in there last minute because they didn’t have anything else to prove that Spencer was responsible. Kinda like they just made it up but it wasn’t true.
They probably didn't bring it up because she said she hadn't had an asthma attack since she was seven so... not much chance of her getting another one anytime soon
@@prettierjesus3119 Or their mom cheated on their dad and thats why she's never mentioned. I mean she's an army wife. ofc shes going to 👀 edit: ik hes in the airforce but im generalizing with the term
Maybe they learned it from their mom, she is never mentioned, and she could be alive somewhere, being a player off in NYC or something, we don’t know. She could have left (or mysteriously disappeared) when Carly was a baby and that’s why she’s never mentioned, because Carly doesn’t know anything about her, and Spencer doesn’t want to mention her and make Carly sad, or hurt, or genuinely depressed because her mom may have left because of her or even because of Spencer, Spencer would have been like 10-11 when Carly was born, so he could have done something, or maybe she just didn’t like how he acted and his personality. We may never know but these are just some of my thoughts, I have only seen the first two seasons so I am missing most of what is happening with her dad and everything so this is what I think about the topic
@@pixelatedtoast People hate to say or admit it, but military wives are quick to cheat from what I understand.. It makes sense, but like goddamn, what a blackpill. Fuck.
I dont think carly got dumber. I dont even think she was all that smart to begin with. Sure she was good in school but that doesn't mean she's necessarily smart, or that she understands what she studies at school or that she cares about it at all
Agreed. She said that in season one, she would have her first set of straight A’s. That was from hard work, not natural genius and it was before ICarly was booming. Then they started winning awards and working with celebrities, the web show was her focus. I just think that her priorities changed and school wasn’t number one anymore. It was Icarly, her friends, boys, Spencer’s shenanigans, etc. Who needs to know the square root of pie when you are partying with Keenan Thompson and producing Ginger Fox’s music video😂
Something that always struck me was that when they nearly went up in space, the only thing that they cared about was being the first webshow emitted from space, not the fact that they had the amazing and life changing opportunity to see space.
Maybe this sounds a bit dramatic, but I think there's something to be said about this children's show normalizes child abuse. Specifically if you look at the difference between the overprotectiveness of Freddy's mom and the neglect from Sam's mom, and how they're both used as punchlines. Reading too much into it? Sure. But that's what normalizing something is. It makes it seem fine or even funny, and when you stop to think about it, you feel like you must be in the wrong for seeing a problem with it.
I am genuinely interested in Ms. Bensons character. I would love to see an analysis on why she obsesses over every little thing about Freddie. His safety, health, sleeping habits etc. Really I would like an analysis of each character and their relationship with their parent(s) but I'm not sure if there would be enough content for each person.
@@tobeseve4020 I get what you mean. I see this stance not just for iCarly, but for what seems like just about every childhood tv show and it's always a debate between whether you're thinking too hard or if it's actually perpetuating toxicity. But (and this is a complete reach, but I thought it was worth noting) what if the writers recognized that much of the audience may deal with overprotective or neglectful parents, so making it the punchline could be a way to laugh at the pain. That's a huge part of comedy especially outside of the kid genre, making pain/struggle the punchline. There has always been controversy surrounding that and about whether such topics should be the butt of a punchline or where it gets taken too far.
@@scabillis Let's not forget that in one of the iCarly movies or specials, it is revealed that Mrs. Benson planted a chip in Freddy's head when he was a baby. Personally I like to believe that the reason onto why Mrs. Benson is so obsessed with Freddy is because maybe it has to do with the fact that he doesn't have a dad, which means in Mrs Benson's head she thought that she had to double the parenting. Or she's afraid that she will lose Freddy just like how she lost her husband regardless if it was because of a death, the husband cheating and leaving her, maybe she screwed up the relationship because she's always been how she is on iCarly, or who knows maybe Mrs. Benson was pregnant when she was young with a guy she was deeply in love with (one could say she was obsessed with him) and she thought that Freddy's father wanted to have the baby, only to find out he wanted nothing to do with it 🤔
Carly acts like she cares for Freddie but she doesn’t, she uses his crush against him and just stands there when Sam (physically and emotionally) abuses/bullies him😐
Tbh Carly is a brat at times. Whenever she doesn’t get her way, she whines and complains. She uses Freddie’s crush against him. She always goes “Please for me.” Cause she knows she’s Freddie’s weakness. Plus she doesn’t do anything when Sam abuses/bullies/teases Freddie. In all honestly I’m surprised there wasn’t some kind of two or three parter where Freddie finally got tired of all the bullshit and stopped hanging with them. That would’ve been very interesting to see.
Tbh, I feel like Carly wasn’t rly turned off by that nerdy guy bc he “challenged her ideals of what a guy should be”, but bc he pretended to be a shy nerd just to get with her
Trey never "pretended to be a shy nerd just to get with her" IIRC, Trey only appeared nerdy at work and he didn't show any interest in Carly (initially). It was Carly that threw herself at him and even invited him over to her house. After arriving there, he still seemed like that nerdy guy at work, until Carly leaves for a bit. When she returns he's changed his look and his attitude and begins to throw himself at Carly. I think the problem is we're never told or shown whether or not Trey did this because he thought this is what Carly wanted or because this is genuinely who he is. Either way, it is funny that Carly just ASSUMED he was nerdy because he LOOKS nerdy at work. It's very possible that that's just how he looks at work. When he starts forcing himself onto Carly, it becomes quite apparent what kind of person Trey really is...disgusting! But Carly lost interest before he did that.
@@JayniacJr I think she lost interest because he was kinda pushy and was trying to force her to kiss him. I think it was kinda creepy the way he approached her later on
Carly could get her serial dating habits from Spencer, as across the series he’s seen dating many one off characters. Notably, in the It’s a Wonderful Life episode, once Spencer has settled down with Mrs Benson that version of Carly also has a steady relationship suggesting a connection. With their father off protecting the country Carly latches onto Spencer as a role model.
I never felt like Carly got dumber, I felt like she slowly learned to prioritize things that made her happy in life rather than what society dictates. At the beginning, shes a teachers pet, a people pleaser. She wants GOOD grades because it makes her a GOOD student which makes her a GOOD girl. Shes striving for perfection and emotionally guilting herself when she steers away from those goals. But through iCarly, she can let go and act/be a wacky, care free kid. Shes still a likeable person even if her life isnt revolving around her grades. I think its at this point that she learns how to be more productive by putting more effort into the things she loves doing like iCarly and not so much effort into school because shes no longer striving for perfect. And to me thats what it means to grow up. When you finally realize that not everything is as important as it seems.
4:55 In the episode, “iQuit iCarly” Carly explains that she writes all of the episodes and makes index cards for the cast. It is also explained that Sam almost never shows up for rehearsal.
Carly never gets called out for anything, and everyone weirdly sees her as a nice person. She acts like she’s a comfort person and lacks judgement of others. But there’s many times that her real feelings for the other characters have came out. Carly tried to change Griffin for liking something she found childish and girly. She also made it seem like she doesn’t judge Sam, but her real feelings came out in iQuit iCarly and in iDon’t Want To Fight. And she act like she likes his uniqueness, but then yells at him about how abnormal he is in iChristmas and in iDate Sam and Freddie. Carly makes it seem like she appreciates Freddie for his work on iCarly and that she’s his friend, but then uses him and doesn’t stand up for him to Sam. We can clearly tell that she would never like a guy like him in iDate A Bad Boy. She doesn’t see him as a real man, all she sees him as is the little boy we see in iPilot, and that’ll never change.
There's a big difference between what you say in a fleeting moment of frustration or anger and what your actions throughout prove. I'd say she's still a genuine friend to both Sam and Freddie and having peewee babies be a hard pass really can't be criticized😂😂😂
Carly does stand up for Freddie in iKiss and calls out Sam for what she did. My issue is there should have been more times Sam gets called out for her BS.
@@lildroptop4178 that is the only time she actually did it, it is one of my favorite scenes in the show. But she only called Sam out cuz Freddie was truly embarrassed by everyone, Carly should’ve called Sam out before that especially when Sam would physically hurt Freddie.
@@LeslieFlemons she did that just so she can have her way and so Freddie can come back to the show, not because she actually cared about him. They both completely disregarded when Freddie talked about Sam’s mistreating him and were like, “okay what’s the real reason”, as if what Freddie just said wasn’t good enough. Even though he was lying, they definitely should’ve put a focus on that too
Honestly, I think people who remember Carly only remember specific parts. Carly's a girl who tries to be nice, she puts up with Sam picking on Freddie because she knows Sam needs a friend and she hasn't been able to stop Sam from picking on him. I remember that she's tried to get Sam to stop but couldn't. If I'm remembering correctly, she broke up with Griffin because she thought he was *obsessed* with the Pee Wee babies(and because she liked him because of the bad boy persona thing he had, stealing Spencer's motorcycle and all.) Hell, in Ibeat the heat, he brings all of them out of his apartment to Carly's to keep them cool and spends the entire time obsessing over them. She's made stupid decisions, especially in regards to her love life, but overall she tends to try to be nice to people. Overall, I liked her as a character however she wasn't my favorite. That goes out to my boy Freddie. I liked all of the main cast.
Carly tried to stop Sam's bullying of more then just Freddie Sam would also bully Gibby, Melanie, and even Carly herself at times although not physically usually like she would to most others yeah
This. Absolutely this. There were several instances where she would always yell at Sam and take things away for her only for Sam to do it again a few seconds later, take the thing back, or find something else to use. You don’t even need to try hard to find these scenes.
I always thought that in iSam's mom, Carly only pretended to be claustrophobic in order to get Sam and her Mom to stop fighting. Especially as it took her a fair while in the space simulation to break out.
(I know this was 2 years ago) but in the revival it was confirmed carly's claustrophobic in 1 episode of the revival she did pretend to have a freak out to get freddie and (I think paul) to get along cause shs took some pills to help... but than an unexpected part happend and she freaked out for real and I think it was only mentioned in 1 more episode after that
@@Maddie-wp8yv Sam wouldn’t do anything for iCarly. She was a toxic friend and was completely unsympathetic when the truth about Steven came out. Forced her to do the pageant thing, wanted to constantly bully and harass Freddie despite Carly always telling her not to, etc.etc.
Carly definately is the one who plans/approves the show. In the first episode (you even used the clip i think at one point) carly explains theres work to do behind a web show and sam agrees for the show to be carly’s and shed just be her cohost because that way carly would do all the extra work like planning
I always knew that Carly, Sam, Freddie and Spencer have one missing parent, but I didn't realize that even Gibby only has his mother. Edit: Okay after reading some comments, Gibby does infact have a father. But I think they might be divorced because Spencer was dating Gibby's mother in an episode.
Unless she’s dead lol. I always assumed their (Carly and Spencer) mom died because she was never brought up in the series. At least Freddie and Sam fathers was brought up because both fathers left them because of their mothers (for obvious reasons) but at least we the audience knows that information .
i get so into the analysis that i don’t realize how long they are until the end when i freeze for a minute cause i learned a lot about a character i already knew but never took the time to actually think abt them
Agreed! I kinda feel like she’s a bit overhated as a character, and that people should start giving her more credit. I also don’t understand why people think she’s a Mary Sue, when she clearly has flaws!
In the last scene of iReunite With Missy, she says, “Austria😀” like a dummy, and Freddie reads it for her and it actually says, “Australia”, they definitely dumbed her down in the show for jokes
It’s not much better that it was in an advanced history class too, where they were talking about the history of Spain or something like that (I think they brought up Prague). And then, we see her mess up the pronunciation of Australia, and misspell Russia. However, she does at least seem to know that the Nile’s in Egypt. Then again, it could just be typical high school student apathy. It’s pretty typical for teenagers’ academic abilities and work ethics to go down with the years. An A an B student from middle school could become a C and D student in high school.
@@prettierjesus3119 I went from straight A’s in my freshman year to getting C’s and D’s by the time I was in my senior year, but I will admit I was going through a very strong depressive episode during the last 2 years of high school. I’m doing a lot better now and have A’s and B’s in college :)
Something i am surprised that you didn't bring up is Carly's dark nature a example when she and her friends were trapped in Nora's sound booth Carly wanted to choke Nora and the sequel she did not hesitate to electrocute Freddie
Carly is such a brat at times. She was so horrible to griffin, she only dated him cause he’s hot, and broke up with him over a toy collection, I don’t really like seddie but Carly telling them to learn to do things eachother likes when she literally broke up with someone for liking something she didn’t??? Ithink they kissed, I get where she was coming from and why she was mad, but she didn’t really have to be so nosy about it like she doesn’t need to know EVERY SINGLE THING. Another thing I realized is how she do quickly runs to Freddie’s mom when something happens she didn’t like Freddie doing, if it has to do with Sam or anything, Carly knows how over bearing and protective Freddie’s mom is so she knows what’s gonna happen if she tells Freddie’s mom about something involving Freddie. In Idate a bad boy, Spencer is supposed to be framed as a “bad guy” but he was in the right here, and Spencer was literally the first to support everyone’s relationship, he supported Carly and Freddie, he supported sam and Freddie, Freddie and Valerie and Sm more. But griffin legit robbed him?? I don’t know why Spencer is framed as the “bad guy” there. Back to the seddie arc, I know it would be annoying to have to fix all your friends problems, but she could’ve been nicer at the date in the restaurant instead of pushing sam out of the way and screaming, even Sam and Freddie said they weren’t THAT mad at eachother💀 She’s constantly manipulating Freddie into doing stuff for her, even Sam wasn’t that manipulative she would straight up ask people for what she wants. “Please for me” my ass. Or in Imake sam girlier, Carly was so quick to change sam, and when Sam got bullied Carly wouldn’t let Sam do anything, but the SECOND that bully hit Carly it’s “rip her head off” Also can we talk about how misunderstood sam is? Pretty much everyone knows how neglected sam is at home, the only person who seems to actually care about it is Spencer, despite being Spencer being a man child Spencer was so good and understanding of Sam, notice how sam rarely gets mad at Spencer? She gets mad at Carly,Freddie, gibby and pretty much everyone, there’s like 1 or 2 times she gets mad at Spencer and both of them brush it off so quickly. “If I didn’t have a crush on you you’d be falling to my tennis racket back to your face bit” “I know you have crush on me” Besides Carly being such a brat at times, she does seem sweet and nice I love her character. Alright I feel like I’m digging way to deep into this so I’ll stop rn. Miranda genuinely seems like such a sweet and genuine person in real life though, so love her
So, I'd always hated the Griffin thing because I was like, "Jesus, Carly, you're being an absolute tool right now." But I was watching another iCarly video and they sort of analyzed this episode and it made a lot more sense! So like, Carly doesn't actually like Griffin all that much. She's into him because he's a bad boy, she's in it for the appearances. So when she realizes he likes collecting Beanie Babies, it shatters the illusion for her. Suddenly he's not the bad boy anymore, and that's not what she signed up for.
I think a good analysis would be on the teachers and principal of icarly. Like all the teachers are strict or crazy then they’re being lead by principal Franklin whose so chill
Honestly i can relate a lot to Carly, especially with the apparent intelligence thing. Its very common for kids to be very smart when theyre younger and then as they get older thst can change because of the pressure to keep it up. The burnout. I think thats why i gravitated toward this show as a kid
Can‘t believe she sort of always took advantage of Freddie loving her through the years. She also just let Sam bully him and never once stood up for him. Furthermore as mentioned she throws a fit if something doesnt go her way and often feels entitled, u could prolly say she is sort of narcissistic
When she finds out they kissed she isn’t wondering why because of their previous bully and victim dynamic, but rather upset she was left out of the loop.
Bruh that’s not a narcissistic person, that’s called being a teenager. Teenagers aren’t perfect, y’all act like characters aren’t supposed to have flaws. It would be boring if all protagonists were just perfect
I used to have really good grades. I used to be a top of the class, honor roll student. Then my depression got worse and now I'm not even graduating this year..
@@thesilverprincess Can you fill me in then? I literally don’t even remember why people hate her now, which is why I’ve just been calling it a bandwagon cuz I don’t think anyone else does either 😂
I just finished rewatching iCarly, and listened your other videos on iCarly earlier this morning at work. Fantastic timing, I was hoping you’d do a Carly Shay!
Yeah they don’t usually discuss her singing talents, or overall all her talents. We don’t know if it’s her quirkiness that fuels the show or the others
She's more of an average singer tho, not Victorious talented. Plus, the show was supposed to be more comedy-based. I think if they had her sing, people wouldve thought it to be similar to Victorious.
Carly is a good person.. she defended freddie when sam told everyone freddie never kissed a girl, she gave spencer all of her itech money and bought him a motorcycle. she finds the best in people.. thats her character. shes the only person who defends sam and sees she has a good heart.
4:22 she has had her moments like any teenage girl or teenager in general but it shouldn’t take away for the times she has been compassionate and sweet imo
Carly is a sweet character that loves her friends and brother but she isn't perfect, even though most people, including herself think otherwise. But she works hard most of the time and deserves the best most of the time. The only time she doesn't is when she manipulates Freddie into doing things for her in order to impress a guy, and usually that backfires.
During the 2010s, applying the "guys treating the popular girl differently and being spoiled and being the golden kid" would have been considered Mary-sue-ish without those other little details about her.
Speaking of missing parents, why wasn't there an episode of drake and Josh where we find anything out about their other parents? They could have had an episode where one of them is upset because they miss their other parent either due to death or them walking out on them. The episode where they thought Walter was cheating could have been an episode where Drake didn't want to see his mom be cheated on again. Maybe his biological dad treats women like he does and just dates a new one every week. There was so much potential to what Drake and Josh could do had they introduced the missing parents. Maybe Megan has a different dad.
Has anyone realised that throughout the show Sam and Carly the show goes on the more Sam gets less violent and I think that's because Carly teaching her like how a mother would teach her because Sam's mother wasn't teaching her that violence wasnt ok and she was pretty violent in the beginning but eventually she only resorts to violence when she really needs to and us less rude plus if u watch u can also tell that when carly scolds sam sam actualy listens
My 9 year old son has just discovered iCarly on Nickelodeon as they are repeating it. When he was really little he really liked Sam and Cat, I think it might've been the way Cat acted.
I randomly found ur channel today (first video I saw was the Freddie Review then I just finished Gibby’s review and now I’m watching this) and it’s some really nice content to sit back and relax
3:40- 4:30 That is a good point. Look at the episode iLookAlike. In this episode, Carly, Sam and Freddie are offered the opportunity to attend an MMA fight and interview a professional fighter. Spencer and Mrs. Benson both disapprove of the main trio attending this fight. Sam, Carly and Freddie are all disappointed about being told they cannot go to the fight, but they have three very different reactions. Freddie is understandably upset that his mom won’t let him go to the fight. However, he reacts with logic. In other words, he immediately tries to figure out the most logical solution that there is. He talks with the girls and suggest that they get Spencer to talk to Mrs. Benson. You may not agree with Freddie’s logic, but he is using logic at least. Compare Freddie’s purely logical reaction with Carly’s outburst. She calls Spencer uncool. Carly’s reaction is bordering on if not childish. Sam immediately thinks of breaking the law and harming others, entertaining the thought of paying her uncle to hurt Mrs. Benson. While Carly’s reaction may have been a bit petulant, she was against using violence. Sam was excited about the thought of sneaking out, while Freddie and Carly were both very reluctant to sneak out.
I think her and Griffin were sooo good together but their reason for breaking up was entirely Carly’s fault. She judged him for liking something childish and girly which I think sends out a bad message. It would’ve been cute if she actually learned something in that episode and they made up again. Imagine: Carly tells Griffin how she feels about him collecting peewee babies. Griffin asks her how she would feel if he got thrown off by her liking weird and childish things. She’s left confused because she doesn’t like anything weird or at least not as weird as collecting stuffed animals. She reflects on it and comes to the conclusion that she actually does like quite a few childish things (such as the things she does on iCarly). They’re part of her but none of it defines who she is as a person and Griffin never judged her for any of it so neither should she. And so lesson learned, she apologizes, they make up, the end.
I've just found this channel yesterday, and fall in love with! This kinda of video makes me understand more the characters and even look at some aspects that I miss when I a was younger. Keep doing it bro
Greaaatttt. I’m still on season one of Victorious and now I have to watch iCarly! Your videos keep making me want to watch all these childhood shows I missed out on.
the only likable characters in the main cast was freddie and spencer.. they were the nicest especially spencer also gibby but he was not in the main cast for the whole show
@jayniacJr part of me is worried you won’t like descendants but I really hope you do The characters are so diverse and have a lot of personality and they are really likable and the songs are fire
correct me if im wrong but didnt her mother die? remember that episode where she gets her room redid and the necklace her mother gave her got ruined and she said something like its the only thing she has left of her before she passed... and she refuses to talk abt her mother in the reboot ep. idk
YES! I remembered the stuffed animals episode. I thought she was a total piece of crap for breaking up with him over that. People collect things. That doesn't suddenly make someone unattractive. I thought Carly's character was horrible for breaking up for him and I thought it was dumb the writers even wrote that. The stigma of liking nerdy things or collecting things has to go. It's like how some people think animation is childish just because it's animated...Animation allows for a lot more than live action does. The worst part is that the writers know you can't writer people into boxes. Freddie's actor was getting fit and muscular so they wrote that in. He wasn't just a nerd and stood up for himself in some episodes like when Robbie tried to hurt him. I think that's one thing people learn in life too. With how "nerdy" things have blown up in recent years, anyone can be a nerd. The sports people, the popular people, and etc. are nerds too nowadays.
they built up sam and frieddie's relationship so much that in season 5 or 6 (i don't remember) they tried to focus on carly and frediie's relationship but it doesn't work so they end up going back to sam and freedie's
