I love podcasts like this were it's just a group of friends fucking around for like an hour and doesn't feel scripted or anything like that. That's why this and the sleep deprived podcast are my favorites.

Keep NFTs away from video games. Microtransactions are a detriment to the industry, which is all NFTs seem to be useful for within videogames.

I can see Nerd's arguement about NFTs but frankly I think digital scarcity and spending such stupendous amounts on art which is quite frankly subpar is just not my cup of tea. I'd much rather commission art for a faaaar lower price and recieve something custom made and genuinely appealing. Sure people can scoff about that one furry artist who charges ridiculous amounts, but their art is far better than almost all NFTs out there, and is still somehow a fraction of the price.

The very unusual thing about NerdCity's discussion of Crypto is he completely blew passed the main reason most people are against it, and that is the environmental impact. The blockchain is ridiculously inefficient and power hungry and in a world where people are becoming more climate conscious, crypto just feels stupid. Like killing the planet quicker just for unregulated 'money'.

Clown and Nerd are indisputably right on the flexing debate. If you spend exorbitant amounts of money on the exact same product for a nametag, you are deficient without a doubt.

Honestly, showing the kids who are fans of Jaystation was the emotional lynchpin of the video for me. It would have just been another good commentary video if you only showed all the weird stuff Jaystation does. But seeing real children admiring and emulating him turned my stomach. It demonstrated the impact of what he’s doing. So I think you guys made the right call. Also, you never judged or mocked the kids, which helps as well. All your criticisms were directed towards the person who rightly deserves it.

Only a couple minutes in and I did not expect this much visual editing, hopefully y’all are able to keep going this strong because it was a pleasant surprise compared to most podcasts

I think one of the reasons why some artists dislike NFTs so much is because of the theft, This is probably a bias point of view but every time I hop on to twitter I'll see an artist talking about how their entire catalogue has been uploaded to OpenSea as an NFT collection or something like that without their consent. That kind of things probably leaves a bad taste in their mouth.

First of all, gotta say I really love how you made a podcast so enjoyable to watch with all the editing and I'm looking forward to future episodes. I do feel like Nerd may be projecting a bit when he talks about NFTs in games, and their reception from gamers. I definitely wouldn't like this kind free market cosmetics/items which I assume is opposed to the current more centralized way of microtransactions, first because there is at least a semblance of stability in the worth of things right now, and also because it would further validate the recent economical model of games. In general, I feel like basically every domain where NFTs are implemented, they're trying to fix a system that is broken, and people think putting it on the blockchain will make it less bad because there's less restrictions from a regulator or a big company while the root of the problems still remains, and we're just moving the goalpost to an even less transparent regulator (cryptos). Hopefully when the Try Hards episode comes out, it will give a satisfactory explanation as to why you think they are an actual useful technology, beyond just "being less restricted by current regulators (and moving to new ones)".

So to answer why furries, and more specifically, furry artists don't like nfts is not that they are uneducated of them (though do some fall under this). Its more that people are taking the images they make and are minting them into nfts and selling them, and there is nothing these artists can do to stop this, so it creates this stigma around nfts because while art theft is a problem in the community, usually calling someone out is enough. Now however if the art is stolen, minted, and sold, there is almost nothing the artist can do to stop this. Also a response to why gamers don't want nfts in their games or have items be nfts is cause a lot of gamers really don't care about making money off the games they play and don't want them flooded by people looking to just make money and dip.

The mix of reprobatic-yet-intellectual conversation, as well as the blend of Newgrounds animation and Quake III icons staring back at me makes me think this podcast will be huge. Heck, it's at least got me wanting more!

I'm related so much to Colossal. Not only are most overpriced "designer" clothes and furniture absolutely uninteresting for the price, they don't even compensate in function compared to a reasonably priced counterpart - they aren't better. In fact, most people who buy those things don't even use them - they just store them away to covet and collect. That 1000$ t-shirt is completely boring.

4 people I love arguing nonstop and bullying each other (especially Pyro) for 20 minutes straight. Loved every second of it.

Honestly - feel like between the four of you there are a lot of topics and stories that can be shared. Was very excited to hear/see the first episode. Someone else said they were surprised at the amount of visual editing that went along with the video. While very funny I'm aware of the amount of work that takes. Wouldn't mind just audio podcasts if it meant less work for you guys - you're all pretty busy. Loved the first episode chaps.

I love how Colossal is completely baffled by the idea of ✨status✨ and how anybody can care about it. That being said: I agree that status as a construct is completely ridiculous, but like… suspend your disbelief my guy. This whole NFT game as it stands is about status. Just put yourself in the shoes of the elitists for a minute. They’re very lonely, shame.

There seems to be a misunderstanding of the "adopt" thing that some furry artists do. These adopts are basically artists designing characters and making reference sheets and selling them to another person. People might buy them due to a lack of creativity or because a certian design catches their eye but also paying for the artwork made of the characters. These don't always become sonas, many people make their own fursonas anyways, but these might become characters/OC's. They might use these for commissioning artwork of these characters or kinds of fursuits. Like secret suits or just a fursuit to preform as this character that is very distinct from yourself. Artists will either offer them for set amounts or auction them off if the demand is very high. Still, I think it's better to refer to them as characters or OC's as these are generally what they become rather than fursonas. People don't normally buy their fursona, they just make one up.

Regarding the point that Nerd makes about furry art and NFT’s, I honestly don’t think it’s a bad idea. I agree with his and Pyro’s stances on it but I think it would kind of be a flop. Pyro makes the point that the community wouldn’t want to do it because they wouldn’t be comfortable with change which is 100% fair. It seems to me that a lot of the community, especially the people buying the adoptables and doing auctions for sonas are young. And in my experience as a 17 year old kid and my friends, we really only care for ourselves at this point in our lives. So to me I honestly would never buy any sona if it was tagged as an NFT. I feel like it also just makes buying one more complicated. No one who doesn’t touch crypto let alone ever want to in the first place is gonna get it. That’s just my assumption and my non-educated-about-crypto-and-nft brain vomit though. Also let me just say that the blood feud between Colossal and Pyro is so entertaining. Good show guys.

So let me get this straight four youtubers I like, three of which have the most inconsistent upload schedules on the website. Have came together to create a podcast, cool I'll return here again in a year to watch episode three.

The problem that I have with NFTs is that it uses cryptocurrency-- in which it's worth changes at seemingly random. So if you sell an NFT, it's value could change with a blink of an eye for better or for worse. I never really liked crypto for that reason, as well as the people who like to buy GPUs so they can constantly mine crypto. I feel as if the majority of people who get into crypto and NFTs are just in it for money and to show off their wealth. There isn't many people I've seen (except for Nerd) that uses that platform to buy artwork. If tokenizing didn't contain crypto then I'd be fine with it.

Great first episode, guys! You all have just enough disagreement and back and forth that it's not boring and enough politeness and common sense towards each other that it's not aggravating. I loved hearing everyone together. I am going to give my two cents on a few artist-related things discussed since I'm an artist myself as viewers who aren't familiar with that community may become confused. Around 51:54, those are known as "adoptables" they're very common but aren't the only way to get a character design from an artist and aren't only used for fursonas. Adoptables have been a huge debate with artists for years because the idea of selling off that sort of thing already premade (for sometimes thousands of dollars, which is usually only common for special closed species made by the artist or if the artist is incredibly popular) can be seen as pretty silly to some. The process really is a bit similar to NFTs, and has been a comparison made before but I've noticed crypto folks get a little tiffed by it sometimes. As for the suggestion that artists are rarely that educated about tech, I would honestly agree. But I would also counterpoint that with a lot of tech people not bothering to learn about artists and art, many of them seeing artists as lesser and more uneducated people in general. Which not only makes it difficult for artists to want to combine their skills with these projects but makes them wary when a tech guy shows a lot of ignorance in the artistic process and expects them to help them out or get into the community with them anyway. The reason many artists are "afraid of change" is because of how many people take advantage of us or see us as personal entertainment machines and wave money in front of us to try and get us to do stuff, leading artists to be much more closed off to new possibilities unless they've been thoroughly tested for quite some time. The amount of peers I've seen get screwed over by these guys because they don't understand art and its industry at all is insane. There needs to be more education on both sides before further continuing. I'll lean into your stereotype and say I personally think NFTs suck ass for actual art right now but I think with time and improved tech it could be great. Like, these minting sites don't even have features to make it so you can't repost the exact same JPG file with the same name and everything over and over again leading to tons of scams. I hope in the future it gets better and more rounded out.

The historical inaccuracy it's killing me that is a pike helmet that was used by Germany but not in world war II it was used in world war 1 and the Nazis didn't even rise to power until the Great depression if I'm not mistaken which happened in the 1930s world war I happened in between 1914 to 1918

The NFT stuff presented here contrasts to what I been learning on Coffeezilla. Apparently, most NFT art sells a hyperlink, and aren't an analogue to "owning an original," since the art can't be hosted on the block chain unless it's just a few pixels.

Buying NFTs, game cosmetics like in TF2, or anything alike, is the equivalent of spending your money on gift cards.

I have some criticism of Nerd City's points about furry art and ownership. I understand that art theft is a rampant issue in the community. However, I fail to see how those objects being minted as NFTs fixes the issue. Yes, the tag for the NFT would prove ownership. However, the easier and FREE way to show ownership would be A) the receipt for the purchase (I use / used PayPal when commissioning my character / buying adoptables), B) the DM correspondence with the person you're commissioning or buying the image from. If you have the documented agreement in DMs / email / Discord / etc that they will sell or create an image for X amount of money and give their payment information, that's kind of a slam dunk that ownership has passed from them to you. A rebuttle I can see made is that, if someone has stolen that art and sold it to you, you don't own it - it's the stolen property of someone else, whether you agreed to pay for it or not. However, this is not exclusive to digital media. The same quandary would apply to someone buying, say, a piece of jewelry or an electronic device from a pawn shop that was stolen. Also, I could be wrong here, but to my understanding, the image itself doesn't have that mark of ownership built in. I fail to see how minting a commission or an adoptable as an NFT solves problems that a documentation of the agreement to create or sell the commission can't.
