Great preview of a great year of albums. Im most interested in Chet,Carmell Jones, Freddie,Clark and Herbie Nichols. Funny story about Carmell Jones,in the 70’s when I was a teen I heard an announcement on the jazz radio station that Carmell Jones was at The Lighthouse. My dad who was a jazz fan often took me to the jazz clubs around LA. So we went to the Lighthouse expecting to see Carmell Jones,got there it was Elvin Jones not Carmell! My dad knew of Elvin of course but kind of was more into the mainstream. We stayed and were treated to the amazing group with Dave Liebman and Steve Grossman that recorded Live At The Lighthouse during the run. Needless to say we heard some amazing music.
Appreciate the time and effort it took to go through all of these. Very informative. Mike - like the way you review the Wiki page as you discuss the record. Like you (except Felipe who gets them all because he is a "Completeist" (ha!)) I will stream each of these to determine if the music is my taste. I'm sure many of these will be. These are great records and the photos are really unique in and of themselves. This has introduced me to a bunch of new music and some of it is just stunning! Cheers!
I recently got a 1959 six eye Chet Baker and Strings. My knowledge of Chet Baker is from hearing him sing as a guest on old time radio shows, from Syrius Radio Classic channel that I love to listen to. I have to say that I prefer his trumpet playing to his singing. He was a very talented and skilled musician.

When I first saw the list I must say I was a bit disappointed that they hadn’t gone into Transition or UA lists, but then I realised how many of these titles I plan to get! Both the McCoys and Wayne Shorter are probably my top picks. I think there are definitely better Duke Pearson titles, like Wahoo and Prairie Dog. But overall a really interesting list. Thanks again for your insights 🙏🙏🙏
Great video. I’m very excited. I’m planning to buy all except two I already have (Infinity and Schizophrenia). (Side note: Can’t believe how expensive Infinity is now. A couple of years ago, it was still fairly inexpensive. Another side note: Don’t sleep on Sweet Honey Bee-that one is also starting to get more expensive.)
A Tone Poet series annual subscription, why not? My plan is to get all of them. I wonder if Joe is planning to give us both mono and stereo versions of a few titles in the list.
I doubt it Roberto. Joe has been pretty clear on sticking to stereo if available. I don't see any space here for a special release, but you never know! - Chris
Nice stream, quite a few I think will pass on. But some real heavy hitters that I’ve wanted for a long time. I also thought one or 2 of the transition releases may have made the list. BN & Joe doing great things so can’t argue
I'm happy Demon's Dance is getting reissued. I wish Wayne Snorter "Night Dreamer", Sonny Clark "Sonny's Crib" & Donald Byrd "Live At The Half Note Cafe Vol 2" were on this list

Didn’t Kevin Gray remaster A Caddy for Daddy as part of the Analogue Productions series in 2009? Is the Tone Poet using that same version just on 33rpm or is this a completely new remastering? That’s the only one I’m unlikely to buy because I’m happy with the AP.

Some really great releases to look forward to her but does anyone else feel that Stanley Turrentine and Grant Green are becoming a bit over represented in the TP series?

There's some better ones in the classic series that would have been more desrving of the Tone Poet treatment.
Heard that the original tapes for the Jody Grind have not been located. They only have a needle drop. Heard the same about Sweet Honey Bee, the Duke Pearson date. Would be great to know where Joe and team have not been able to get adequate source material so people can understand what’s possible and what’s not.
@@babyfranz1 I heard that regarding Jody Grind surely they can do something with a mint version of the LP if they can find one the CD SOUNDS FINE TO MY EARS.
That's a pretty disappointing line up of albums TBH considering that there are so many classic albums that need to be reissued or haven't been for years yet again in my mind re reissuing the 1970s and 80s stuff that hadn't seen the light of day on Alfreds watch some of which are pretty good but some you can see why they failed to get issued at the time and no dressing them up with fancy covers and 180grm vinyl isn't going to change it .
