Oh my word, this song brings back so many memories. My dad used to play it every morning to wake my brother and I up when going to school. Man, it just made my heart smile.
Got ya beat by ah little. Listened to it for years. Like yourself, I'm an old man now. I've been blessed with the talent of playing the bass guitar, and hook this up many times, gab my bass, & play right along with them. I'll soon be 76 yrs old if I'm blessed to see that day. Love it.

When I was young my Auntie Leen would pop on albums like this. This was not only her method of teaching me but also enjoying great music with me. I'm glad she left me with a diverse knowledge and great legacy of music. RIP AUNTIE LEEN.... LOVE AND MISS YOU!! 😚😚😚
Will never -ever be anybody better than the Jazz Crusaders. First heard them when I walked into Discount Records in Harvard Square in Cambridge, Ma. back in the late 60's, changed my life forever. These guy's will alway's be the very best in my book.
My taste in music was influenced by my father. Whenever we go out to groove with my siblings, we can't wait to go back home to play this kind of music... the only music we resonate with❤❤❤❤. Thank you dad for teaching us real music😍
My first great jazz encounter was with The Crusaders music in 1973 - my uncle still has their LP’s and a great jazz collection. The Crusaders would become the epicenter of jazz music for me.... so melodious so complete so smooth Their music has always made sense for me 💖🙏🏻🌟☀️😘
I can remember as a kid my father would love playing his Crusaders records. At the time I wasn't really into it, but as I got older both my brothers and I took a liking it. This cut "Way Back Home" has always stayed with me. So much that when I had a son I played it all the time and now it's a part of him, deep inside his soul. When ever he's sadden or down he plays this in order to help pick himself but up (as well as God himeself). R.I.P. Joe Sample you will be well missed my friend. Trust me, I know your up there making sweet music in God's Jazz band. Thank you for posting!
Ain't it the truth! Joe Sample and the (Jazz) Crusaders will forever hold a special spot in my heart reserved just for them. The best of the best of the best. Don't know what else I can say.
We've been so very lucky to have been blessed with their music for so long. I hope those new to The Crusaders do some history homework on these cats. You'll see just how influential they were (and continue to be!). Incredible talents and good people. And...as great as he is, it must've tough to take on Wilton Felder's role. He is one of the greatest sax players to have graced this world.
Yes on the piano one of my favorites Joe Sample. This group helped me find the jazz world way back home. So many have passed RIP innovators not imitators.
In my opinion ........ this is 'smooth jazz' BEFORE, there was a smooth jazz. These 'crusaders', started a smoothness in jazz, that can't be replaced or duplicated.

My little sister passed away in March for cancer but everytime I hear this song I know she's back home no more cancer no more sickness she's home with the Lord

I was 18 years old and a student in Belfast when I fell in love with jazz music and my first ever jazz album was Free As The Wind by The Crusaders and as they say the rest is history. They are truly the best ever

My older brothers and sister put me on to jazz in the early 70's especially The Crusaders and I've been listening ever since. But once I found out some of them were members of my wonderful Fraternity Phi Beta Sigma I knew they were one of my favorites. Plus this cut is still 🔥 in 2023. All the original Crusaders are gone now except Stixx and Hubert Laws. One of the all time great soul-jazz-funk bands. This song makes me feel nostalgic.
+mack jenkins , I'm with you about the Crusaders. Jazz will never be the same without them. When I first heard "Those Southern Knights" in the early to mid 70's, I went out a bought all their older albums too. It saddens me to know Joe Sample and Wilton are gone. Let's not forget Wayne and Stix who had their talent too. I was fortunate to see the Crusaders play live in the late 80's.

H-town proud, such a rich array of brilliance seedlings contributed to the music world. I did not realize it until later (77004) next door to 5th ward. Thank you internet and all of the limbs that is sprouting from it. the limbs enrich, inform and enhance our life of hidden and cloaked treasures in the music world. each year Joe Sample came to Galveston to "give back" , I visited up to his transition into another realm.

What’s not to love here. Wilton Felder is one of the sax players I have always loved to listen to. Then who fills in for him here…maestro Gerald Albright…I play his Cannonball signature tenor sax.
