Hi Quincy! Beautiful demonstration and I am a huge fan of your playing. I have great memories of our times at the Up And Over Jazz Cafe in Brooklyn. BTW...the Kendrick Stick Shot comes actually from Alan Dawson I think. Keep up your inspiring work!
Another great video! Your presentation of some really cool but tricky material here is very clear. Makes me want to hit the shed and work it out for myself. Thanks for the inspiration.
Q ...thanks for the lesson. Please don't be mad ...but when will we get that uptempo brush lesson that you talked about a few years ago or do you have NDA with Kwash?
Ha! You're right, I totally owe you CH Gamble. I actually made one some time ago but I wasn't happy with the quality. I promise I'm I'll do one in the next few months. Be patient:)
Hi Quincy, Love your videos,I can’t seem to do the stick shot. Is it because I only play matched grip? It seems easier with traditional grip since the left hand is always in more of a up position to stoke it with the right stick. Can it be done with matched grip? Thanks again.
Hi Quincy. This was a GREAT lesson! I'm really glad I subscribed. Thank you for your hard work and sharing. I DO have a question, though. I've noticed that most modern drummers (I've been playing since the early ’70's) who use traditional grip seem to choke up their left hand so it's almost to the end of the stick. With almost no counterbalance, how do you get good rebound and speed? Thanks
Is it correct that it is possible to execute a stick shot without pressing it into the drum? It seems at 8:18 you can see such an example. I saw a similar example on the channel JazzDrummersResource.
@@drumqtips One last question. Do you recommend to practice this quiet way (on moongel or Reflexx pad) with heavier (marching) sticks or with regular drumset sticks? Thank you so much!
Great video as always. 🙏 Any tips for attempting the stick shot with left hand matched grip? I think the angle of the stick is more favorable, when playing traditional grip.
