I had a modern dance class at JFK High School back in 1981 in The Bronx and as my final project I chose to dance to this song. What memories! Still one of my fav jazz albums
Louis Johnson was/is a Great Bass Player. But I'm From Philly an a OG There was this youngster named Stanley Clarke from my hood. Both Bad Boy's on Bass😊😊😊
Great tune by Earl, no doubt about ....I can hear also Mr Louis Johnson's Fender Bass slapping away...master combination of classic funk jazz talens...!!! Coool
In the Navy 1982 on a Med Cruise...With my Walkman This album was a staple from Tour bus Rides to Rome and Delphi Greece the foot of the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx in Egypt ...Mr Clugh was my theme music...Music with a soul ...
Sounds like you were on a princess cruise ship, my wes pac cruises to the Tonkin Gulf in the 60 were nothing like that. I got to see a few things, but it sounds like you owe the Navy some money. ha ha ha
Twinkle Acoustic Guitar [Acoustic Nylon String Guitar] - Earl Klugh Bass - Louis Johnson Drums - Raymond Pounds Electric Piano, Synthesizer - Greg Phillinganes Percussion - Paulinho Da Costa
You know, back in '81, I had no way to explain this music except it was before it's time. One of you mentioned Louis Johnson played the bass...well after hearing his brand of slap bass, it now makes perfect sense!
One of the most versatile classical, rhythm- blues and progressive jazz guitar players to have graced the industry. But to truly appreciate his work one would have to focus on his earlier works which validate and emphasize the true talent of this silent giant whose music has always been larger than life.
I remember when I was a Junior in high school, and this cut came on the radio: WBMX-102.7FM Oak Park, Chicago! I fell in love with it...real fresh, real fresh!
It's included in my Fusion 80s Smooth Jazz playlist. I've been reading through the various comments and I now realize that I might want to do a RU-vid search to see if there is a full album playlist for Crazy For You. I couldn't agree more with the other comments. Earl was certainly bringing the funk to the acoustic guitar as far back as Dr Macumba off of his '77 release, Finger Paintings. That was the first time that I had ever heard his recordings 😎🎼🎵🎶🎸
I was browsing around in Radio Shack one day and they played this song, found out who the artist was, next thing I know I was in Sound Warehouse buying this great piece of work.It was good to be alive in the 80's. ha
I used to downhill ski to this tune. It was like dancing down the slopes - Green, Blue, Black, double Black Diamond - Groovin the whole way down. One of my favorite Earl Klugh tunes and that’s saying something.
From the 1981 Crazy For You album, self produced too, with Louis Johnson (bass) alongside Earl's guitar virtuosity & his composing skills, a cool breezy track on a muggy summers day
This all time jaz hit take me back when I was in high school and my mom an dad play this jaz song in the house why we clean the house on the weekend n I had to mow the grass i didn't like it but when my dad play this song man i did my yard work fast it take me back my dad pass in 08 an man I really miss him so when I came across this old school jaz great yeah good memories
Carnegie Hall, NYC, October 1978. An all-star show, opening with Steve Khan and his band; the second act, the Brecker brothers. Earl closed the show. I talked my way backstage, and told him he was one of my heroes. He autographed my program -- "Thanks! (signature)" Radio City Music Hall, 1989. He and Basia did a show sponsored by WQCD-FM (the "smooth jazz" station at the time). This song closed the show and the bass player tore the roof off the mofo! No autograph this time, but still magical.
The folks were loving enough to allow him to pick his own instrument early on. He played piano for a while, but eventually he chose to transition to guitar.
Choices..this period in time as a consumer of art you had so many choices simply because there were so many expressions available..not the case today just look at society today vs then
Earl Klugh is known for being one of the best smooth guitar artist of all time but it was nice to see him breakout with his funky side of jazz and incorporating Louis Johnson as bassist made the funk more awesome.
i feel like such a dork for loving this random track so much! People get made fun of for liking stuff like this LOL but hot damn if this aint a freaking JAM! This is a great l'il piece of music right here! Thanks for posting. #werq
OMG I knew those keyboards sounded too much like Greg Phillinganes. I’m just surprised that I didn’t know it was him. Such an amazing keyboardist. This is a classic jam. I’ve listen to over the years.
That's Louis ( Thunder Thumbs) Johnson aka ( Brothers Johnson) on bass. Along with Greg ( Mouse) Phillingganes -Keys.. Raymond Pounds Drums, Pahlino D'costa Percs..
Blessed! This beautiful mystic jazz ensemble way heard on the jazz station out here in the New York City metropolitan area territory which is of course WQCD 101.9 but wasn't familiar in detail the artist or title but could harmonize but Thy Holy Spirit bless me to just find actual Moorish Amexem Yisraelite brother Earl Klugh El along with the other Moorish Amexem Yisraelite brother Louis Robinson Bey may Thy Holy Spirit hold you eternally so much respect for a underappreciated genre which is jazz. Blessed!
JFK Airport in February - finally going down the runway at full throtle - after an hour delay - heading to Saint Barts in the Caribbean - can't stop saying - Yes!
