I've subscribed to your site as I find it really explains the "mysteries" of jazz guitar. Your lessons are so understandable and enjoyable. Greetings from Belfast, Northern Ireland
Two “gear” questions for you, if you don’t mind... do you play a Howard Roberts guitar, and do you recommend flatwound strings for us beginning (although old) jazz guitarists? Thank you!!!
Looky, I have a jazz gear and amp settings video, where I show my stuff. Strings are also covered: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--6Tylw4gf0E.html
Sandra, I found the following entry in the comments posted by Diane Nalini 2 years ago. I would like to repeat it because it describes exactly what I think too: Sandra you are just AWESOME!!!! Every video you post is a jewel. :) Thanks for this video too. I’m learning a lot right now regarding rhythm practice and your tabs for this video are very well organized and very helpful to follow the video. Great👍. Es liebs Grüessli us dä Schwiiz, Birgit
Wow now it swings. Your stirring pot method is dope. When I did the Freddy green it sounded like cutting wood, but after your advice wuhuuuu there is finally swing. Btw u broke me with the break rhythm. Thanks Sandra.
eu gostei muito do seu vídeo, as ideias rítmicas propostas foram claramente entendidas, muito obrigado por esse conteudo de qualidade eu queria comprar o material da descrição mas não tenho cartão de créditos aqui no brazil
What amplifier do you play through Thank you and the backing tapes are they downloaded into a file that I can retrieve from phone or computer or both, wonderful teacher as always thank you
I use a computer plug in for the video tutorials. It's calles S-Gear 2. I have a video up here where I show my equipment and give amps setting tips. It's called "Jazz guitar gear and amp settings". If you want to purchase tabs or backing tracks you should do that from a computer. Paypal does not like mobile devices with the "Return to merchant" button.
@@GuitarversumSandraSherman I think so too. Eventually I need to pay attention to drum, but I haven't decent sense of beat. A sense of at least some basic rhythm. Might be helping if I turn on metronome or drum software, or even tapping out the beat with my foot? And I am wondering about the bass, because I heard in jazz you omit a root note, for bass does root. When you do a chord voicing for comping, you also considering this? Probably it takes quite a harmony knowledge for comping too.
I think you're amazing. I wondered if you've ever playef "Mother Goose" by Jethro Tull. It's fun ti play, but wish I could speed it up. I'm so slow. I know, practice, practice, & more practice. Thank you for....... Being. 💕👍
There's a trick for something up, though. Don't play the whole song at once. Play only one or two bars, but as fast as you can. Play only as much as you can play with tripping. Then add one note or add many as you can play fast without making an error. Play as fast as you can. Then the next little piece and so on. This does you up and you remember the song by heart at the same time. Good luck!
I started Jazz this like 6 months ago and like I l've learned all the basic chords but when I play I actually dont know what strumming patter or anything of that sort to play so I just copy the piano haha
I was just thinking yesterday, I really need to work on comping. I love Freddie Green's style. He seemed to play only the upper 2 or 3 notes of a chord. But, even though he left room for the rest of the big band, you wouldn't notice if he was there. But if his track were missing from a tune, the song just wouldn't work. Trully a master of comping. Just yesterday, I was thinking "I need to learn how to comp like that". Then, new Sandra Sherman video explaining how to play his rythems! You have awesome timing, both in your playing, and in when you released this video. ☺
Thanks Remley! I was thinking about you while working on the planning of this video. I actually wasn't going to put the Freddie Green tutorial in, but then remembered that you and some others talk about him a lot. To be honest, I'm not a Freddie Green Expert. But because of youth I added it in. From what I heard, most of his playing is one of the two examples at the end of the video. I use the pot stirring a lot (for medium tempi). For faster playing he just plays quarter notes, while I use the Gypsy La Pompe groove. Well, I hope this tutorial helps you.
Guitarversum Sandra Sherman that's very cool! Pot stiring is the perfect discrimination. I'm definitely going to work on this this weekend. Thanks so much.
