This week we're delving a little deeper into the Charlie Parker tune Billie's Bounce. We're going to breakdown the chord progression and look at applying the chord tones/arpeggios to bass guitar
This is an essential part of learning a Jazz Standard and creating walking bass lines or solos.

Thanks for explaining the fact that this is in one key with alterations to enhance the movement of the chords.

Excellent lesson. You have knack for taking complex material and making it understandable. The mark of a good teacher. I taught for 30 years. I know. Now if I can just apply it.

Dear Mark: In the 6th bar you could use too de Bdim7 too , in order to add "spicy" sound before de 7th bar (F7) , that's the way I´ve learned the jazz blues...Regards from Argentina!

Thought that Bdim7 expansion also turns up in bar 6? At least that’s how I play it. Either way great lesson again and loving this series featuring Billie’s Bounce. So helpful!

I love this playlist. Thanks Mark. Which courses on your site do you feel best complement jazz theory? Obv the walking bass one, but do you suggest another to pair with this?

4:39 "Don't get caught up in the theory of it, just accept that's what it's going to be." Ha ha, that's my problem. I stop too often to remind myself of the theory reasoning to what you're saying and then I'm complicating things instead of just taking the lesson for what the point is.

Bb6 - Bdim7 - F6/C = gm7 - g#dim7 - F6/A. And on and on, i.e., voice-leading.

I am learning a very quick bass line and I need to play two open strings (A and E - in this order) but I need to mute A before E. Is there a simple solution or do I have to add a third finger to my playing? I really need help with this one, I am new to bass and I spent quite some time figuring it out, still haven’t...

2 years ago so its probs not relevant to you anymore. But hopefully this can help someone else. If youre going from the higher pitch strings to the lower strings (e.g. A to low E) , you want to mute the higher strings with your *fretting hand* not your plucking hand. Just gently rest the fingers across that A string as you go down to the E string
