What a great guy is Herbie Hancock! He has been married to the same woman since 1968 (Herbie seems to be in things, like marriage and car ownership, for the long haul!), he holds degrees in music AND electrical engineering, has been an innovator in music from the early days of his career, looks about half his age and seems like a thoroughly nice man.

I had kind of the same experience. Went to a car dealer with my daughter and my shorts and flip flop on and the salesman didn't grace me even with a look of attention. He was too busy with an apparently older and more acquainted customer. After 15 minutes of not even "Hello sir, I'll be right at you" I left the dealership, went to another, bought a 65K car and was sure to let the initial seller know what the result of their salesmanship was. Roughly a year later they were out of business.

One of my favorite car stories so far. I earned my 1st car sand blasting an MG that looked just like that but had a different grill. My dad built a box of plywood around the car and made me climb in with a sandblaster and I did a great job. I got stuff in my eyes and it sucked lol. But it was my neighbors car and that's how I earned my 1st car and it was cool to help make his car restored. It took a few years like 7 but in the end it was like a new car. Jack you owe me a ride at least lol. He was the best neighbor ever. It moved away but still have very fond memories of what we created in our backyards.

@One Issue Voter Rare is rare. The only 2-barrel ever made, the sixth Cobra ever made (CSX2006), the Hancock Cobra is probably the most widely known non-race Shelby other than Shelby's personal cars or the Bill Cosby Super Snake. In 2008, it was valued at more than $2 million, and that was figured to be low. I worked at B-J from 2000-2001, in charge of the online auctions, until that division was sold/folded. I always say the three best music concerts I was ever at were the two times I saw Herbie Hancock.

What a musician and what a car. I knew the back story to this thanks to a recent RU-vid video with Herbies mechanic who looks after the car. Now that video is well worth watching.

I came to jazz late, oh sure I heard and saw all the greats before but when Herbie hit middle America in the 80's, his was the first jazz album I bought. Being a car guy is just icing on his cool cake baby!

This car was featured on Barn Find Hunter, very recently...it is now in storage. The guys talking about the car, wondered if it actually had just 30 thousand miles on the odometer...Now we know, that Herbie has put over 230,000 miles on the car! It still looks amazing...and according to the guy storing Herbie's car, the great musician has plans to leave this gem to a grandson. That car, one of the very first Cobras made, will be a one-family car! This Cobra will go, someday, for at least 5 million, I would guess.

I couldn’t even believe this video in my timeline lol. He reminds me of an old buddy, so cool and humble. 200k on a Shelby, was his daily driver, and wifey still doesn’t get it! 🤣 Also didn’t know Miles was such a car guy, great story. Thanks Jay, feel like I just met Herbie Hancock and had a beer with him! 🎼🎹

This car would have been built and finished in Surrey, UK and shipped to the USA for Shelby to fit the 260 v8 and gearbox. The early cars were basically the AC ACE with different engine mounts and diff - probably the prettiest version of them all.

There used to be a Ford dealer in downtown LA, cleverly called Downtown Ford. I think it was over by Chinatown. I sat in one of these back in the day. Could have bought it for the same amount of money, but I was a Corvette guy. Still have the 62 Corvette that my dad bought new.

What a fantastic person. We are so lucky that he has been the caretaker of it. and what a person who fame and fortune dose not seem to be currupted (spellcheck could not figure out the word, LOL,) by his fame. the car could have easily been sold or cast aside in favor of something new. thanks for sharing this moment...Fantastic!
