Here is a jazz lick I borrowed and made it my own from one of the great jazz drummers out there.
I first heard it from Tony Williams in the tune "seven steps to heaven".
I approach it like playing a fast jazz ride pattern with both hands. The hi-hat is not on the downbeat, but on the last 16th note before the next downbeat. To practice it slow play the hi-hat on + and the triplets (1 ta ta...) on snare and ride. + 1 ta ta + 2 ta ta + 3 ta ta + 4 ta ta when you play it faster you count in 16th
