This performance may be recorded vocals or post-processed, but his vocals absolutely sound as good live as they do in the studio. It's a bit absurd; he's phenomenal.
Seeing comments like this makes me feel justified circa me in the RU-vid comments section 2014 when some hooligan was fighting with me and saying Rori was trash live when I had JUST seen them and knew otherwise. I felt like a crazy person.
It's live, it's just post processed into oblivion with pitch correction and compression. A lot of vocalists are doing this now (i.e bad omens) using effects on their live vocals to make it sound more like the album
@Austin Barron def some pre recorded spots where you can tell his "miming" gets off time with the audio or he cuts a phrase short while the audio still plays. It's siriusXM. It's a pre recorded, unfortunately. However, having seen rory live, he is fantastic live and there's better videos out there to watch to get a feel for his raw power live
Many bands prerecord vocals! Also these drums and guitars are definitely edited. just here to shed some light on it, this band kills live, but this video is definitely not live.
I don't think I've seen you miss the mark as much as this one. Yes, there is a ton of post-processing. Some of these live channels do it. They're also playing to a backing track which so many bands do these days. My old band did - the drummer used his in-ears to keep BPM level with a click track and the audio-out added the synth and vocal harmony layers to the mix to maintain the warmth and texture from the studio version in the iive performance. But the rest was all authentic and done in the moment - which is the same as these guys did here, and always do. They aren't posers. These guys legitimately sound this good live, Rory always sounds that good live (with the audio tech doing pitch correction or not). The video edit was often out of time with the performance as well, giving the impression of it being inauthentic which was not the case. Check out some more of their stuff, because I feel like you took totally the wrong thing away from this one.
Wish they gave him a vid without it being post processed. I dont want rory to be discredited with his vocals because he really is consistent and amazing live. Dude is one of the best vocalist in the scene. I know he said he's sure he can sing it but i dont want that hint of scepticism
He’s not trying to be the best though or flex and shit. Bands put out processed videos like this because they sound fucking awesome while you’re essentially watching a one take studio session. This dude is just being goofy. It’s pretty rare to see a take on lip syncing as bad as his was on this video. 99% people already know Rory is an animal
Not lip synched, the audio is just out of whack with the video. Yes there is some post production and plenty of live fx tracks but they sound exactly like this live, I've seen them a few times.
Dayseeker have really exploded. Been around for a decade but their album “Sleeptalk” really blew them up. Many of Rory’s lyrics are focused around abandonment by his mother and the life and death of his father who raised him on his own. Fantastic band. Please do more reactions!
Modern recording and live audio tech allows post processing/backing tracks for bands like this and they DEF use this. He is still there live. So is the rest of the band. Drums are using triggers so when he hits the drums it also plays a pre-processed drum sample. Guitars are mixed probably on a laptop or similar using an amp sim to get them to sound so modern and polished. His voice, same concept. The backing synths and guitars are there in a backing track. 😊
It is live. They have some backing tracks, and they have effects on his voice, but it’s 100% live. Go listen to the album version and then come back to this. It’s not lip synced.
Everything is delayed in this video. I think Octane actually just failed to sync up the audio to the video or something. They can nail it all live and they do have backing tracks and don't hide that fact but, I don't think they just weren't actually performing this.
Pretty good vocal centered kinda band. Not many songs on the album are like this as most of it leans more in the synth pop/alt rock style but they excel pretty well at both. The title track "dark sun" is a real good one.
100% not lip synced and fully live - rory’s vocal performance on the album version has some subtle differences. just some post processing added on top of their live performance but the performance here is definitely live. rory has one of the most authentic voices in this genre; seen them countless times and you could tell when hes even the slightest bit off (whether hes sick or having an off day performance) and still gives a stellar performance. highly recommend more dayseeker - theyre all really amazing musicians. hugely recommend holding absence also!
I can tell you this is not the original studio track. It does not sound like a purely unedited live performance but it does sound like a new recording. Probably post-processing like you said
@@Gunsarepeople in fairness at face value it does sound like a crap ton of processing on top of the live take and im noticing that the live video might have not been synced perfectly - which may be enough for someone new to this live video to think its lip synced. but seeing dayseeker enough times and listening to rory’s solo stuff is enough for me to understand how consistent rory is with his singing, or with dayseeker for that matter. i was a bit defensive when writing my comment 😅
Yeah the video is definitely unsynced from the music. There's a shot either in this or the Sleeptalk performance Gino is eight up to the mic and they change cameras and he's somewhere else. There's also a slight lyric change and he skipped the word "when" at one point.
Saw them on the Bad Omens tour this year. Knew this song and a few others. He absolutely killed the vocals live, might be the most impressed I have ever been
Saw them live in SLC the band didn’t make it but Rory showed up and like fresh off the road he grabbed an acoustic and played 4 songs himself he was absolutely incredible
I’ve seen them live and he sounds almost the same live as the album. I’ve also watched this video 16295 times, i dont know what it is but your video sounded very different. But you have to do more of them from album to live performances bc he and the rest of the band are amazing
Yea like everyone else says, I've seen them live multiple times and he sounds just like this live. Been following them for 10 years. I feel like Sirus mixed their backing tracks (with harmonies) are really boosted in the mix. Also the reverb on his screams is stronger in this recording compared to the album so he is still is doing vocals in this performance, not lip syncing.
This was honestly not the best video to do a 1st reaction for Dayseeker. This video is obviously over processed, but Rory does sound this good live as well. Definitely check out 'Without Me' or 'Dreamstate'.
This is live. It's an octane exclusive live performance. Rory absolutely sounds this good live. I actually prefer his live vocals more than album vocals there are certain tones he gets that are phenomenal.
To all who doubt the way Rory sounds. He sounds almost exactly how the album sounds live. I have seen this band twice and each time. The man has grown so well and is killer. Put some respect on the mans skills cause he has put the work in day in.
This is how most bands play live now. They have laptops etc and play a track to fill in the parts that can’t be reproduced live, falling in reverse etc all do it
This is definitely live. They are using Multi later vocal tracks behind him though... That being said in my opinion he is easily one of the best male vocalists right now. Huge fan.
People are def confused by your comments. DGD did this with the tree city sessions too. They recorded this live in a studio ahead of time and THEN they filmed the video. So in both cases yes they did actually do it without the same kind of mixing mastering and processing the actual studio version had, but the filmed footage is lipsynced.
Your cover does this incredible justice! You should cover the new October Ends song called Dark. The vocals Nick Thurl’s put in that song are phenomenal.
I've seen them twice live now and can confirm, they're really great live! Check out their actual recorded stuff like Without Me, Crying While you're dancing etc :D
It would seem with all the music you have been checking out recently, that a 7 string guitar shouldn't come as a surprise haha. Also, this is definitely live, but it's a live recording which is then mixed and added to all their backing tracks, essentially creating a new studio recording.
I’ve never seen a “reaction” miss so bad. Processed, sure. This is an octane live exclusive. This is his live voice. Search any of the other 50 live performances.
There’s something about this performance that for sure is prerecorded. I could sit with you and tell you exactly what I’m talking about. But, alas, I could be wrong. It’s happened once or twice
He is not lip syncing u can see when ends phrases early That on the recorded versions he does not skip, maybe process post performance for octane but this is not a lip sync
This 100% live. If you listen to the studio track version you can hear a difference in every piece of the band. Now with that being said vocals are heavily processed and mixed but…..it is live.
Yeeeesssss. Rory is an incredible singer. I disagree that this is pre-recorded and they are lip-synching. I think that there has been some production added, but they were definitely performing it live for the video. Dayseeker was direct support for Bad Omens on the first Concrete Jungle US tour last year. It was such a good show. And yes, 7 strings (sometimes even 8 strings or baritone guitars) and extreme downtuning are very common in metalcore/heavy music in general. If you want to see a raw live recording, look up the full show stream from the Bad Omens shows in Irving Plaza NYC back in December. BTW, this song is a tribute to Rory's father, who passed away after a long battle with cancer in 2021. The entire album (Dark Sun) is much softer than their previous work, but it's basically Rory's catharsis for processing his dad's death. Link to Neon Grave live at Irving Plaza in my reply.
Pretty sure it's just a thing xm made them do. Probably to make sure nothing crazy or bad happens live where they can't fix it hide it on SiriusXM's part. They probably used to do live and stopped because some embarrassing mishaps
There are several truly live performances on RU-vid, and from experience seeing them in person - they are just as good. Not sure why Octane had them pre-record, maybe it was played live on XM and so they wanted to prevent any possible mistakes? They may be used to less talented musicians coming through or something.
This tune is great! Dayseeker is awesome. Definitely check out their songs "Sleeptalk" and "Without Me"!! They're phenomenal. Check out the studio versions though!
If you heard the track off the album you would know this is live. This sounds nothing like the track. It could’ve been post processed, but his voice sounds is that good live.
It's a live performance! They probably took multiple takes of the song, matched the best take(with post processing) to the video. it's just slighlty out of sync. At least that's usually how these are recorded!
I have no doubt they can pull this off live, but this isn’t live..or at least the audio isn’t. However, in their defence a lot of these shows often do this to bands without the band even knowing about it. As I said, not denying their talent but it’s so obvious the singer live is ending phrases after the next phrase is actually sang in the audio.
Octane does the worst post processing, I get it, they do it for the radio, but they situate most around 2-3 takes, and splice their “favorite” parts together so of course nothing lines up right. I also think their videography is wack, cause they don’t even try to get it perfect. Dayseeker has been one of my favs since Origin, and I love how they’ve evolved. Rory is an absolute gem of a guy and deserves the world.
I would love to see you check out the "Dayseeker - "Starving To Be Empty" Featuring Lucas Woodland LIVE!" for a better representation of their live show! The featured vocalist is incredible as well.
