Man, I'm a sax player, currently a part of Chad Lab's studio and originally a jazz performance degree from University years ago; but, the learning you're puttin' out so unselfishly is phenomenal. Lovin' it, man! ⭐😀💛

I really love your honest way sharing your struggle with one of my absolute favorites of Brubeck´s master pieces. Maybe one day I will follow your path...

I remember hearing this as a youngster. dad was a jazz fan.Didn't realise the frist 1/2 was manageable! (for me. just.) But it gets very Gershwin-esq atour 1.00 in there ! Thanks Tony! Great tutorial again. I'm actually going to have a go learning this.

Great lesson, and very cool adaptations of the quartet to solo piano. The sheet music is very classy -- I love the old-school font.

Smoking hot cool!!!! I've always liked Dave Brubeck and when I was in my teens (late 1970s) I could play the written head part of this quite well. I always struggle with the improve stuff but the written head section I could play, although I agree it's not easy. The only other Dave Brubeck ones I got quite good at were "Kathy's Waltz" & "Bluette" . I've got to say: You're some good piano player!!! many levels ahead of me but I keep trying to learn more.

PS: I also learned "Blue shadows in the Street" by Dave Brubeck. I think it's a very pretty one.

@@TonyWinston I've also learned "Far more Blue" really well in the past. Gymnastics for the fingers that one! For me Dave Brubeck's solo in this one is totally impossible!

Thanks Maestro. I wouldn't even dare to tray and play 'Blue Rondo a la Turk' by myself... thanks for the lesson and for the pdf. But more than anything I enjoyed the Blues in F you play as an interlude from minute 8:44 (when you kick off the Mic): those 24 bars are what I'm actually studying because that's how I want to play... You swing, Maestro 😊.

Yes, great video of a great tune but: you ended with the song I really want to learn: "Strange Meadowlark". That's a really super tune. Please run through it with us sometime. You're so great to do these videos. Thanks!

Was Dave Brubeck classically trained? I can almost hear Rachmaninov in that later section before the blues!! apart from the rhythm which defines him so much. Thanks Tony. My Daddy would have been cheering 👏

You can find this melody in the first seconds of Symphony in D minor no 1 by Peter Lange-Muller

I’ve got the first part down, but I’ve never been good at improv or understanding chords so I’m getting stuck on the blues part :/

Nice video! Did you know that melody is the same that the first 30 seconds of Symphony in D minor no 1 by Peter Lange-Muller? Do you think he knew the song and was inspired by it?

This is in C? The F sounds like a lydian to me I think.
@TonyWinston

Good for you to notice that! I didn't notice the key signature - no sharps or flats. I would have thought F major ( 1 flat) but some parts are in A minor ( no # or flats) even though the last chord is A major (picardy third) - So I believe the Key Signature is correct though you definitely need to consider that a lot of the song is in F, including the blues section.
