So much killer stuff here. I have looked into that Roy Haynes on Swing before, looks so cool. I picked up a copy of that Interplay for 2 Trumpets and 2 Tenors OJC, and really like it as well. It actually started me going down a rabbit hole of Prestige jam sessions titles -- I've been meaning to do a video on that topic. That Max Roch Deeds Not Words is also so good and features some great tuba soloing by Ray Draper. I am going to check out Walt Dickerson, those two records look cool. And thanks for the shout out! -- Mike

Lots of great stuff you got there. I am been long coveting that Toshiko and her Pals you mentioned. I have a lot of her releases but am finding it very difficult to track that down. I also need to spend more time discovering Walt Dickerson - I do have the Patch of Blue album which I find refreshingly different and inventive. Thanks for the video.

I have that same version of Olé (bought in Berlin many years ago) and it‘s great. Mine‘s mastered by George Piros (ATGP in deadwax) and sounds great.

P.S. Similarly, got an Impulse/ABC “Africa/Brass” in Tokyo, and it‘s an RVG STEREO. Sounds pretty horrible, actually 😂 almost no top-end.

Nice video, I long to go dig in Japan. Question that I've always had but never researched, but why are Japanese pressings susceptible to damp/moisture spots? Obvs Japan is an island but still seems weird to me coming from the South where humidity is typically very high.

My wife is Japanese and she has claimed it indeed is from humidity. Could it be even higher in Japan??
