Jazz: Sunny (Take 1) - Rhodes Mark I edition

I like this background track and I like the song. If I get enough feedback I will upload take 2. I decided to go with Take 1 because I felt there was more continuity in my phrasing, even though there were some phrases in take 2 that I really enjoyed.
Please enjoy my version of the classic, Sunny!

Well that's what I fiddled out for the first round. |: A m7/G (Ab m7 /G) G m7/F (C 7/b9/#11 /E) F maj7 E 7/#9 :| 0:23 The dark days are gone... A m7 /G G m13 /Bb F7 /A (no5) Bb 7 | Bb 7/13 /Ab 0:36 ..I love y-ou. A m7/G | E 7/#9 Notes: 1. All chords are played without (/with assumed) root 2. Mostly the it's the 7th of chord that is in the bass 3. Excluding the root, E 7/#9 and Bb 7/13 /Ab share the same tones Btw I recommand to drag the YT-Link into the VLC Player. Now you'll be able to crop boarders of the video via ALT+C , ALT+D, ALT+R, ALT+F to zoom in to the relevant part and better see what the fingers are doing on the keys. (or use adv Options/Videoeffects/Geometry/interactive Zoom) Num- and Num+ are the adjust speed. Shift+cursorLeft to jump back just a little... In options shortcuts I change the standard to a more handy configuration to my needs Num-/+ to fine grained speed and cursor Left/right to 'very short seek' (since I use the mouse instead of the cursor keys to navigate on DVD-Menues) If ya liked that comment please vote to keep it on the top of the list.

Where did you get the backing track? Great job!
@PaulOJazzMusic
@PaulOJazzMusic 7 лет назад
Bill Pappas Thanks for your comment, the backing track is from the Jamey Abersold learn jazz play along series. I can't recall which volume this is from. The tracks are high quality, and when you buy them you get additional literature for practicing like different scales (written out) along with charts for the play along tracks.

what kind of fx and amp do you run your rhodes through
@PaulOJazzMusic
@PaulOJazzMusic 6 лет назад
Its been awhile, but I am fairly sure on this recording I was running a combination of two 57 mics on the cab and also direct output from the preamp at the same time.

awesome playing. whats the signal chain for the rhodes? is this thru a tube amp??
@PaulOJazzMusic
@PaulOJazzMusic 2 года назад
When I was recording at this time, I was running two setups. I can't confirm which one I was using here, but it was either 1 of 2 setups: 2x SM58 Mics (one per speaker, at rear of cabinet) 2x line outputs from the Janus Poweramp 1x Stereo Reverb Pedal Routed through a Peavey USB6 mixer Or 2x line outputs from the Janus Poweramp 1x Stereo Reverb Pedal Routed through a Peavey USB6 mixer From listening, I would wager it's the latter setup used on this video.

really nice god i love that electric piano sound. question tho why do you and ever other jazz guy play this tune in Am. thats the wrong chord 100%. Em G Cmaj7 F#m7b5 B7alt. why everyone subs Am for Em I have been trying to figure out for 20 yrs. AWESOME PLAYING THO dont mean to take away from that. just that ppl obv learn this stuff from watching others and not from the record (guess thats the career cover band musician coming out in me...lol). 75% of the tunes in the real book are totally wrong, for instance.
