Hey guys, I just released a new video titled Jazz Triad Magic and it’s definitely the ultimate guide to using the R25 non-tertial triad in jazz improvisation. I’ll teach you a step-by-step outline on how to apply the R25 trichord over the iconic jazz tune Giant Steps by John Coltrane, along with a 12-page PDF that contains essential techniques, a written etude, detailed analysis and a backing track for deeper practice! Don’t forget to like, comment and subscribe to get more exciting bass lessons!
Great lesson Joe. R25 non-tertial cell was not a concept I had been previously exposed to. I appreciate you providing the pdf for download as well. I love how you offer these little master class type lesson for such a small fee. Please keep them coming periodically.
Another detailed and interesting tutorial Joe. I was not familiar with the R25 Non tertial triad concept/sound and will get the pdf. Thanks for another great vid.
This is great work Joe! Love this new deep dive into Triads that you’re doing. I’m really considering getting this new triad sudoku work book. It could definitely serve as a great supplemental tool for my continuing education and study of triads that I’ve been doing for the past year! I absolutely loved your original chord tone sudoku book so much. Such a cool interactive approach compared to the traditional music books we see out there. Great to bring back the tried and true process of picking up a pencil and actually writing things down to help crystallize these concepts into our minds.
I've only got to 2:15 Joe & you reminded me of things I'd not fully appreciated ie, Csus2 is the same as Gsus4. Anyway, I made a 2 bar vamp in iReal Pro, Csus & G sus - (for some reason you can't have sus2 or sus4)? So went through all invesions over the neck & started jamming, cool sounds! Then I thought why not Gsus2 (=Dsus4)? Works, of course, over the vamp as there's an added A note. & then, why not Dsus2 (=Asus4) which is just an E added! This creates a hexatonic scale which is the major pentatonic scale 😅- however, what a great way to get inside that scale & create movement by using the 3 note cells with rhythmic variations 🙏 The point is, if you keep a structured approach outling C/G/Dsus2 you can come up with some wicked lines that really bring home the Q & A feeling which is so important. You could probably tell us loads more stuff Joe that I've not thought of!! I'm imagining the R,2,5 is the same on minor & dominant chords? No doubt I'll find out if I continue the video but man, I'm flying, new sounds!
Not sure what major pentatonic scale you are talking about. Also, a major pentatonic scale doesn't equal a hexatonic scale. The pentatonic would have 5-notes, while the hexatonic scale would have 6. As always- thanks for watching.
