Sorry to get back to you all so late. I actually rarely checked my videos and was surprised to see so many views and comments. I will check in more now. Thanks again for watching and for your comments.
Hey folks - time to demystify.. all you need to do is tightly tape a few circle cardboard cut outs under a normal drumhead to get yourself a DIY brush practice pad. Enjoy!
This explanation is from another viewer and is on the money: Sarek Gutierrez - "Hey folks - time to demystify.. all you need to do is tightly tape a few circle cardboard cut outs under a normal drumhead to get yourself a DIY brush practice pad. Enjoy!"
Jes Brown Thanks Jes! I figured out years ago that if I took a coated drum head, filled the inside with two pieces of cardboard, taped it to edges of the head and put it on a practice pad, I could practice drums any time of night with brushes. Hope you have fun making one too!

Great job! I love this recording (-Herb Ellis is "my guy" on jazz guitar) and did a RU-vid search to see what might come up. Surprise, surprise, a guy playing the drummer's part on brushes. And what a great job you do! Really enjoyed this.
Mark Rhodes Thanks so much Mark! Herb Ellis was one of the greats and it's such a cool thing when they leave out the drums so I get to play with Herb, Ray and Monty! Hope you are well and swingin' away.
Thank you so much for your comment and for watching! I've also got a bunch of new brushes instructional videos on my drummming4life RU-vid channel if you're interested. Have a great day!
super! routinely record singly or sometimes do you perform in conjunction with extra friends?? by the way-- I oftentimes can play saxo and play a part at music mashups in band-hub, do you want to double up at the site!
Terra Rooney Thanks Terra for you comment and enthusiasm about playing! I would love to explore the possibilities of playing with others long distance but I just don't have the time at the moment. Please send me a link with more information if you can. Thanks again!
Lovely playing could you tell me what brush rudiments you are using in the phrasing around 00:55 mins. Feels like a paradiddle sweep but not sure about the triplets at the end.
Tom Wardle Thanks Tom for watching and what I am doing is a combination of triplets with the sticking RRL(where the left is a sweep), then a Single Paradiddle-Diddle RLRRLL and then throw in an inverted Single Paradiddle-Diddle (RLLRRL) to finish it out. I hope that helps. So many possibilities with brushes and an opportunity for you to create your sound and ideas. Hope that helps and let me know if you have any other questions.
I think you all might also enjoy my Samba brushes in this video if you didn't already see it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-c0dPefcjmpU.html
Thanks so much George for watching. I also have a RU-vid drum instructional channel at Von Baron Drummer. Lots of brushes lessons too. Please enjoy and don’t forget to subscribe and get notifications. I’ll have brushes lessons going up! Keep on drummin’!
