Amapiano isn't new. I grew up in Pretoria. This sound has always been here, but it gained fame recently. The thing that's new though is the name.

When #Amapiano came out around 2015 people called it Deep House however most Deejays even Western Deejays moved away from it but now Pretoria Soweto Voslo and Alex is buzzing with the genre... check out Kabza De Small, ThackzinDJ to name a few

The way I see it it's that there are two versions of Amapiano the first and most prominent being the Pretoria one, which is more like Kwaito (i.e Cassper Nyovest Monate Mpolaye) and there is the Johannesburg version from places like Soweto and Alexandria which is more of the proper house without vocals and it's just a beat with the piano and so forth.

Personally I feel like Africa is the birth place of rhythm and amapino and any genre that draws from that...the percussions, the bass line, its saw chilled and so authentic and so rhythmic

Amapiano never started in Pretoria. This started in the East Rand, but became popular in Soweto. Barcadi and Rekere started in Pretoria, let's not confuse the people guys.
