I don't usually make instrument review videos, but I didn't find much comparing these two already, so I thought I would make this one for others like me that wanted to know more about the differences between the Squier Classic Vibe 60s and the Fender Vintera 60s Jazzmasters.

Okay, well it's pretty simple to de-grease (or replace) the tuners, oil & buff the fretboard and smooth the fret ends. Squier problem solved. :-)

Yes, but you have to do it and it still wouldn't sound/feel the same and if you'll change the pickup it's better to buy the vuntera with better overall quality

I'm planning to do the same to my Squier CV Jazzmaster. I'll bring it to a professional to swap out the original pickups to Fender Vintera ones and to do some fretwork and to make it feel better to play. I'll update this comment as soon as it gets finished

Squier come with mini pots. All you need to do is crown and clean up the frets and change the pots.

I just bought the same exact vintera. Best guitar I've ever put my hands on. Loving the riffs. As I'm learning more about theory, I want to say it sounds like some of those jazzy chords you were playing were in C myxolydian. Great content.

I have the Ice Blue Metallic VIntera Jazzmaster and absolutely love it. The Squier's are also really good, but when comparing the two, the Vintera is just a better guitar imho if you are after a vintage style Jazzmaster. Also the build quality of the Vintera is just much better. The pick ups of the VIntera are very close to '60's original pu's. The neck pu on the Squier is also really nice, but the bridge is too hot imho. To me, the Vintera's Alder body is just nicer then the Poplar body of the Squier. If you intend to play the Jazzmaster as your main guitar, then go for the VIntera it will last you a long time. I you just use the JM as a side guitar, or wanna mod a JM, then the Squier will suit you imho....

Thank you so much i was torn after having played both a squier and the 1600$ model yesterday and was not sure where to go because i certainly felt the squier was not the right thing for me. Found the vintera on the internet yesterday and fell in love with the metallic blue finish and kept watching videos about it, while this is the first comparison i found. Added the vintera to my cart, very excited ...

If your willing to spend quite a bit more for the vintera, why not spend more and get a USA Fender Jazzmaster? If that's your mentality?

We live in an era where you really can’t go wrong, just more right lol. I’ve played both and both were very nice. Was the vintners nicer? Yes. Was the classic vibe bad? No. The one I played really just needed a setup and that was it. I don’t mind cleaning up fret work and fixing the cuts in a nut though so the squire was fine for me.

I know it's not for everyone, but I usually put in new pickups no matter the country or origin and I feel more bonded with a guitar I've put time and effort into. Also I'm cheap.

Indeed. I tried to do a very basic setup so I was reviewing them as they came out of the box. Almost any guitar can be great with the right setup. If I didn’t have the budget, I’d have been happy with the classic vibe and a good setup. Thanks for watching!

People always say that Jaguars / Jazzmasters have bad tuning stability but I think it’s because they’re are playing with light strings and just don’t have enough tension. I use 11s on my jag and it NEVER goes out of tune when using the tremolo, however, when I was using 10s you couldn’t even touch the bar without the strings going flat.
@MatthewGudenius
@MatthewGudenius Год назад
Any idea about maximum tension it can handle? Thinking about putting on flatwound 11s, but my Squier Affinity Strat really struggled with those (had to add more springs, which worked for a while, but now it seems the tension ended up cracking the body under the bridge and sinking the bridge screw right in)...

Thanks for such a helpful video. I'm picking one up this afternoon with an HX Stomp and I haven't been this revved up about playing music for eons. I've hardly played for 25 years and wanted something fun and inspiring to get me back into playing. The icy blue jazz has just one out over a 2nd hand Rivolta Mondata XVIII - close thing, but I can remember how nice JM's are to play. Nice playing too - You should be on commission!

I literally have the exact model Classic Vibe (colors and all) and just upgraded to the Vintera 1 (also same color!) Very similar conclusions as you. I think the Classic Vibe series in general is an incredible bargain and plays and sounds absolutely great and is honestly all the guitar I'll ever NEED. But I do notice a step up in just about every way moving to the Vintera - most noticeably the increased clarity and responsiveness of the pickups, more tonal variety across the different positions and pot values, and a smoother trem system.

That Vintera is a huge step up from the CV. I am thinking about buying Jazzmaster or Jag. Just because i always wanted one when I was a kid learning. I do however think maybe the CV is a great value and know that I'm going to put a mastery bridge and tremolo on it. Maybe upgrade the electronics a bit.

Fix the fret sprout, replace the tuners, oil the fretboard, replace the electronics . Vibrato and bridge on mexican and squier are pretty much the same. If anyone's reading this please don't waste your money on the vintera. For under +-$100 in upgrades and setup work you can have a far cheaper great guitar.

I have a 60s CV and the neck is a mess. The two places that are problematic for tuning is the bridge and nut. Nut slots were cut poorly and the bridge moves without returning to its proper place (it needs to be anchored). Also on mine, the pickup selector switch needed to be replaced within two weeks of purchasing.
@rebeccabailey527
@rebeccabailey527 2 года назад
Squier nuts are crap, they always need replacing right out of the box, you can buy a preslotted tusq xl nut, all you have to do is a little sanding on the nut to make it fit, and because it's mostly Teflon, (the slickest commercially available substance) the strings will not bind. but the bridge is supposed to move. When the jazzmaster was designed (1957-1958) the lightest strings you could get was 12s. The bridge operates correctly with 11's and 12's, the idea of a floating tilting bridge is to reduce friction at the saddles. But with light strings (10's and 9's) the bridge has problems, when light strings became the norm in the late 60s, people strung jazzmsters with them, and erroneously thought it was the guitar's fault, but it was the players fault. It's physics, the higher the tension of the strings, the more pressure is placed on the bridge, keeping it right where it's supposed to be. I would look up how to set the jazzmater up. There's hundreds of articles on the internet, and they all say the same things. Set it up with 11s and how any of those articles state, and you'll have a good guitar.

Is the neck thinner on the back of the neck on the vintera than the squier classic vibe?. I have a CIJ jag at the moment that has a thin neck that I much prefer. I’ve played one of the squier CV’s briefly and the C shape neck was chunkier than my CIJ jag. Can you remember if the vintera is slimmer than the squier.
@BrianRogers_
@BrianRogers_ 2 года назад
+Jason Webster I think they are both thicker vintage C shape necks and not like the thinner modern ones. I actually prefer that personally as too thin of a neck makes my hand cramp up. If I had to guess, I’d say the vintera is a little thicker than the CV from memory. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching and commenting! I think maybe part of my issue was that I didn't really break the strings in very well and it kept going slack when I would use the vibrato bar too much. The bridge really isn't great, but there are good aftermarket replacements for it that people use. Really, I thought it was a nice guitar (even the one I got off Amazon) and would have been happy with it had I not been saving up for a better one for a while. I think I saw a video about how to do a basic setup on it on RU-vid and it mostly just needs the truss rod tightened up a small bit. You might get one that didn't even need that though. I would give it a shot with a place with a return policy and see what you think. I really liked it, but that Vintera is just something else. :-)
