Stefan Lewis try telling that to the lifeless mugs in the room staring at their phones in the video! mans a legend and they couldn't be any less bothered...
+Stefan Lewis the only one? Pete Rock, Premo, etc. etc... A lot of guys use traktor/serato nowadays. Nothing wrong with, although I prefer vinyl because I think it's super boring to spin records like this.
I have been into DJing for 30 years, as a keen amateur myself when a teenager, and a follower of many DJs during my adult life. This set is just so incredibly good, a combination of incredible old-school technique and use of modern technology, deep knowledge and experience, and originality. This guy (whom of course I followed in his early days) is just an absolute master. Pure class. Total respect.
OMG... when he cut up and brought in Public Enemy, Rakim, etc that sent OG chills up my spine. I miss the days when every DJ worthy of his tables had true skills, quality music selection/taste, and didn't just stand around pressing buttons. Jeff is an international Hip Hop treasure.
What he's doing reminds me of when me and homeys used to practice in our barracks rooms back in the 80's when i first started spinning. Cats used to come over, and vibe, drink and smoke and shit. The DJ's would take turns playing sets...just gettin down. Jazzy Jeff is from that generation of DJ's. Listen to his music - he's taking us on a journey through sound. These days....folks are too spoiled, and just too mind dumb and shit to let good DJ's get down and do their thing like this. Thanks Jeff...you still keeping it real fam!
the absolute greatest! I'm from Philadelphia so I heard Jeff all the time. The worst thing you can do to greatness is take it for granted and the people in that room clearly don't understand what they're witnessing. DJ Jazzy Jeff is the best DJ EVER! The Illadelph is in the HOUSE!
@@sjelliott6660tbe lighting would be hard for the laptop viewing. I think its dope the way it is personally. They dont look bored they are taking in tbe greatness
Who's hating? I just think your statement that a group of 10 people is a representative cross-section of the cultural makeup of a city like London. I don't doubt it's diverse. I know it is...then again I'm from California so diversity is kind of a given out here. Thanks for the message on sarcasm. I'll be sure to keep that in mind when calling other people out on their ridiculous comments. Cheers
karizmaone a small group of people can indeed illustrate some parts of a society and its beliefs , the message on sarcasm is honest sorry you were offended, logically we do not know one another so our comments cannot be 100 valid .. but thank you for explaining yourself... and cheers for the banter. One of the best I have had on you tube.. you seem to be a cool person , keep rockin, keep free thinking, keep asking questions .
karizmaone furthermore in london i witnessed true diversity... not salad bowl diversity like we have here... different races of people live together, protest with one another ... have children together... hang out together without AMERICAN STYLE JUDGEMENT, this is why I told you to see for yourself.. experience something different to our system
Jeff is to DJ's what Wynton Marsalis is to Jazz around the world..... A music ambassador. Nice & smooth that's rock'n ya dome. Body sway'n back & forth like a metronome.
Much props to Jazz, this man comes from an era where most of us "controller" DJ's wish we had the skilz to find records in creates just by the touch and mix them as if they are part of one song. To pitch bend, beat match, reloop all manually without the help from today's DJs controller/effects technology. And this man evolved to the new mixer/computer technology whilst still being true to the game of turntables, the one's and two's! Much respect to DJ Jazzy Jeff!
Boiler - "ok chaps, so i have a great set idea. it will get us loads of views! We hire Jazzy Jeff! yes the world renowned, world class DJ JAZZY FUCKING JEFF!!!!" Crowd - "thats a fab idea, shall we dance to his beats?" Boiler - "Dance!, NO!!. of course not!!!" Crowd - "shall we nod our heads?" Boiler - "maybe a little, hmm actually no not really. No head nodding AT ALL!" Crowd - "ok, we'll just sit n smile" Boiler - "smile?, not fucking smiling!! I want dead pan faces all over" Crowd - "OK, just sit there and watch him do his stuff" Boiler - "Watch him??! No, just ignore him. use ya phones, talk amongst ya selves etc" Crowd - "oh ok" Boiler - "Understand?! Great, this is gonna be the best set yet!"
WOW.... 00:45:55 took me way back. It's the strangest feeling hearing a song you haven't heard since the 90's, but you get vivid flashbacks of your older sister playing that loud upstairs while I'm playing Super Nintendo in my room downstairs, and on hot Summer days having freeze pops on the front lawn, waiting for friends to come over so we can ride our bikes until the sun sets and we come back to have snacks and play video games. Days on Cape Cod in the 90's...were like a dream.
Zhane? I get the same vibe, those 2 tracks were what set me on a 15 year career in the club scene as a DJ lol Damn older sisters and their pre-go-out music : )
Mark Hazleton Just do it bro.. get some second hand turntables with pitch control even cheap belt drives and a shitty old mixer and just START - best way to learn. WHen u eventually get the money together for quality direct drive turntables it will feel easy peasy :)
Old school mix. Who needs a crowd/audience when the music and mixing is so well put together. This is all for the love of beats and mixing (skill), Every DJ wish they could. It's beautiful!
they are worthy. you don't decide who is worthy based on appearances. what a fkd up way to talk about human beings. he should have had more people there who could give back though.
I usually listen to his mixes at work and while I drift away from the music, my body still lets me know how amazing this is, as i find myself having goosebumps or nodding my head to the beat. wow man, just wow.

To those who don't like the way JAZZY JEFF did this mix (for example using Traktor)... I'm pretty sure that JAZZY JEFF will be open for a battle "à la Oldskool" (2 TT + 1 mixer + Vinyl only). Digital DJs, are you ready?
I grew up on this guy, and still find myself fully amazed by his sets after 30 plus years he still is working at his craft and will always be my all time favorite DJ!!
Just for future reference the music starts at 13:00 (1:06:30) I really feel what he talked about music in the start. PS - The people around him look like they're on detention or deaf.
This is one of the better boiler room sets ive heard, im constantly listening to this over and over again cause the selection of music and just how he smoothly transitions
Whenever I watch this video I always catch a handful of things I haven't seen or paid attention to before. This mix stays dope because of the hands of the DJ!
I remember standing in line totally drunk at the door of Kater Blau (a Berlin Techno club), when the bouncer asked my friend "Who is playing tonight?" to test, if we are into techno music and fit the audience. My friends answer "I don't know - DJ Jazzy Jeff?" - Bouncer: "No i dont even know who that is. Today is not your day man - please leave" My friend: "Well if you dont even know Jazzy Jeff, I dont't wanna get involved with your bullshit club anyways" and then he walked of. i laughed so hard, i had tears in my eyes.
I never type anything on youtube, but I gotta say DJ Jazzy Jeff is seriously out of this world. If I'm not mistaken he created the transformer scratch. This blend of all kinds of music is outstanding and he needs to be applauded for his impeccable DJ skills and musicianship. All my real HIPHOP heads standup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Without a doubt, Jeff is the best DJ on the planet. Not only is his track selection and mixing impeccable, he also maintains the soul and showmanship that the originators brought to the art. I'm looking at you superstar EDM djs. Take note because this is how it's done. One love Jazzy Jeff and thank God you're still bringing it.
There was guy from Brisbane Australia called Dj Angus or Dj Bribe. He used to scratch dma performing in the dma’s and even mentioned by Public Enemy. Later on in the 90s he started playing dance music, techno and happy hardcore. He would transfer his skills from hip hop scratch mixing to high bpm high energy dance music. Now this is scratching an beat juggling at 140+ bpm. Not all dance djs mix simple.
+Jake Equilar At least Jazzy got paid... I guess he wanted to transmit too. People don't understand what's happening to music culture more and more owadays, they would have been prepared for such event... He gave extracts of music history! Don't ask why new generations go wrong with actual music, not knowing how good the vibe can be and reject todays' mainstream music and style...
+Chillednfunked You must be crazy. Living in the past. Really? Your watching one of the best do it. You really think he doesn't have current material? He's creating art right here. I don't know you, but you can only wish to be that nice. A true Dj can paint a picture with music from past and future and that's what he's doing.
To me, there's no "right" or "wrong" way to DJ. lest you forget, we exist for the crowd. If you can get them dancing using your iPhone, who am I to judge?
I have had the privilege of working security for FOR SEVERAL JAZZY JEFF SHOWs truly One of the Best to ever do it big up CHAMBERS FAM And MIGHTY FAM THE DO OVER SF
I grow up listening to all the music, Jazzy Jeff played before the age of RU-vid and downloads sometimes you have to seat and listening to a good Dj like jazzy jeff an appreciate quality
one of my favorite and goat dj, who know how to rock them 12's the right way... never seen a youtube video of his live mixing i didnt like... props. his other boiler room set is off the chain as well
I'm 52yrs old and I been listening to this legend since I was 16yrs old in the 10th grade in 1984. And he still is the top DJ INNOVATOR in the WORLD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was a DJ for many years & Jazzy Jeff was always my favorite. The variety & skills are self-evident. He combined mixing & transforming at an incredible level.. always a hero to me. 1Love
1 of the best DJ'S of all time! Still going old skool with his ears & hands making the magic. Everything else is just a bonus. Been a Jeff fan since the 80's.
Credit to Jazzy Jeff to props on how he loves to give the crowd what they want.. It's a gift to DJ's who love truly who embrace the crowd and he did this gracefully to the London crowd.. The awesome thing is about DJ's its so graceful and so like embracing the element at the moment... always spontaneous... Im just a average DJ.. but I had a good time at Eglin AFB... never forgot it...
