Raja sir is a perfectionist. He preferred singers who were fast at learning songs and rendering them exactly the way he wanted. SPB sir , Janaki amma and Chitra chechi were his prime choices.

Sujatha was introduced in Tamil by Maestro Ilayaraja as early as 1978. She sang 4 superhit songs in Tamil before she took a sabbatical. After that, she has sung more than 50 songs for Ilayaraja. If you are short-sighted to just "popular" songs, you certainly will never know of such hidden gems.

Magith, That is partially true. But, Ilayaraja was working at a monstrous speed of several movies per year (minimum of 2 songs per day). As SPB and SJ were singing from his second and first movie (1976), he is at ease with them both who sang the MOST songs for him. Also, they both are fast at learning and were easily available. KJY, Chitra, Mano, Swarnalatha, PJ, Malaysia Vasudevan, Shailaja etc. also have sung a LOT of songs for IR. Post-2K, it is Hariharan and Sujatha who have sung more for IR.

@@sabbatarun7928 I do have problem....chithrechy's voice is one of the pleasing female voices in Indian cinema....such a matured voice which suits for all the greatest heroines..everyone has the right to tell their favourites but don't ever compare. I could see a comparison in that comment...that's all & that's it .
