Thank you for a great tutorial. I have been repairing stuff like this for 40+ years, but without your help this one would have been very difficult to do without breaking a clip. Really appreciate that you show the entire reassembly including wire colors and connector orientation. Very helpful, especially for beginners.
Thanks mate, this helped a lot and my speaker is working now! Side note. At 21:30 you mention that the blue side of the plugs have to face upwards. For me it was the other way around. Luckily I made a picture of the motherboard before pulling everything. And by the way, it's ridiculous that JBL makes you go through all this trouble just to change the battery😑
Excellent video! At 34:20 you mentioned that the battery indicator LED's were not working. After I replaced the battery and reassembled the boombox per your instructions, my battery indicator LED's and the indoor/outdoor switch lights were not working either. I took it back apart on the right side and flipped the 2 ribbon cables on the bottom right side of the mother board over and all was good! Otherwise, thank you for making this video!
This video was perfect, thank you Tino. I took my time and replaced the battery and it's back:) FYI, the screw driver that came with my battery was not small enough for the 3 screws way back attaching the mother board. Ended up by a $6 off set screwdriver at the harwarde store and that was the key for me. Cheers, Ernesto
At present I have a repair seemingly same with your item doing. But they differ in the speaker bass reflector. The item I have is more difficult to remove. Thankful for your guiding video. Thanks buddy...
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I could’ve not done it without your help. JBL should definitely make this much easier to replace. You’re the bomb my friend 🎉
Thanks for sharing. Everything was just as you described. Although, I was careful to notice the placement of the “red”, “white” and “black” wires. Mine were different colors, so I noticed the placement as you worked with them. Thanks again.
Thanks for taking the time out to do this video, it’s a great tutorial and I really appreciate it. I have one of these boom box, so when the time comes I’ll know exactly what to do. One question: where did you get the replacement battery from?
Man! Thanks for this video iv been youtubing this kind of video finally you showed perfectly and makes me understand this is not an easy work and i need expert to do it for me. Thank you
Can you do a tutorial on how to replace the passive radiators, or at least recommend an adhesive? I ordered the parts, but can't find a tutorial anywhere.
Hello! This is a copy a paste response. Please read fully if you are still searching for an answer to this solution. I am currently having this problem. First, let's check the serial number located in the port section of the JBL Boombox. If it starts with ND, most likely the process in the video will not help. For this model you will need to pry it off. Consumer discretion is advised as I have not done this process yet and am unfamiliar with how it will feels/looks like. I highly recommend more research before committing to the act. For those without the ND model, the process is not clearly described in the video. Your goal is to remove the opposite ring side using friction from the "normal force" of the surface of your choosing. Choose your surface wisely, it should be flat, grippy and dry. NOW, you can clearly visualize what the videos instructions are. You are not trying to remove the ring facing you but the one underneath. With the JBL Boombox upright, sitting on the subwoofer side you will need to apply pressure and rotate it anti-clockwise. BE WARNED. This requires quite an amount force. Hope this helps you in your endeavor internet stranger.
I just left that one screw in and pried the bottom open enough to slide the old battery out and the new one in. But yea that would have been way better. This thing was built by elves.
Bless you so much. I dropped my boombox not even from waist height. Still works just doesn't charge. This makes me think that one of the connectors just came out, just have to figure out which one. It's not letting power pass through and it's not charging the battery so it has to be the port its self and or a connector.
Just saw another video here on RU-vid about a boombox repair. The problem was the battery connector came loose and he just plugged it back in and it worked fine.
Great video, geting down to details.. have to say that i also had the problem with the battery life light at the bottom and also the button of inside / outside mode dose not working. If anyone had the aame problem and have any idea how to fix it i would love to know..
Hey just replaced my battery, thanks for straight forward video. Just one question, do you know why the battery indicator lights at the bottom front is no longer working after battery replacement?
You have to take it apart again, because what happened is you connect the cable for the light incorrectly, just flip it and will work perfectly again .
Thank you so much for this Great explanation video , just a question : i want to replace my boombox battery and want to upgrad it to 20000 mah. What would you recommand for a battery brand ? And where can i purchase it? Many thanks in advance and Greetings From The Netherlands :) i already suscribe to your channel.
Thank you, you can get it from ebay or amazon, the brand from iFixit or cameron, to be honest most of the batteries are about the same, they’re only like two or three main manufacturers in China, just make sure that you select the one with the correct plug for your speaker.
Can you give some information about the battery please? I see some with 10000 mah and some with 25000 mah. What is the difference between them? And they are both suitable for the boombox 1?
The 10,000 mah usually is the correct model for your generation, higher then 10,000 is design for Boombox 2 and the 25,000 is the highest that goes for boombox 2. I will recommend you just to get the 10,000 and here is a link for one. amzn.to/3WRjpqX
I ended up with no bass any recommendations.? I followed every step 🤣... also doesn't show me battery charge is it because it's an aftermarket battery.?
Hey i have a question my boombox just stopped working one day no light no anything no charging so i bought a replacement battery and charged fully i did notice that when the last light i think is the 5th one never came solid it always stayed blinking so i unplugged the charger and it said it was full ok i started playing the boombox when it was by 2 lights it turned off and i went to charge and a single red light was flashing but it wont charge it just stays 1 red light flashing any ideas ?🙏
Actually that boombox is real because mine is like that and its fake so dont buy a JBL in low price because they might be fake so be careful buying speakers when its low price!

I have tried to replace passive rediator disc of boombox2 but unable to remove its ears. these are jammed or may be a trick to open it. need help. I put it on the floor and pressed but not working. Pressed it on the rug but not successful.
Anyone else have issues removing the side retainer rings at the beginning of the video (to remove the handle)? Ive tried absolutely everything and mine wont budge an inch. Pretty sure mine were glued in place....
Use a hair dryer or heat gun and heat the inner and outer edges for a couple of minutes, then apply pressure and twist as shown in the video. Mine wouldn't budge either but twisted right out once I applied heat

Not sure if my first question came through. So you mentioned that you couldn’t tell if the new battery was charged. Did the charge lights ever come on? I have the same issue with mine after replacing battery. Everything else works but no indicator.

Hi,, after dismantling the speaker, i realized the new battery terminal doesn't fit on to the motherboard (as in its too big,, the original battery has 8 slots and the new battery has 10), is there a way to make the new battery fit on to the motherboard or i'll have to look for another battery that fits
Is posible the dc jack is bad, you can try a different charger, make sure the flex cables are connected in the right way because sometimes you can flip the by accident.
Problem I have with mine is, it charges but only plays connected. When you take off the charger it stops playing. Either a wire has come off, a solder joint snapped or something else.
All you have to do, after end caps, handle, the main grille panel, only the end speaker with the exclamation point, needs to be removed. Then replace battery which is right there.....You made WAY to much workfor yourself...trust me. My way, you dont have to remove and unplug any speakers except the one...Also, never use a power driver to remove screws and don't remove screws at an angle.

Works perfectly fine, my only mistake was to flip the cable for the led lights , but I wanted to show live with out editing , you can hear the Bluetooth sound in the video.
Please sacrifise 5 minutes of yours, to edit your tutorial video with editor. Write text on screen, where you should have connected two smallest cables with blue sticker (on the bottom right of the motherboard) upside down, and about that not crucial screw. Not informing people that you forgot one screw and mixed up the blue sticker wires, ends up with many people wasting their time disassambling boombox once again 😂
@sharwil63 the video is great but @MrDekalz is right the cables are upside down I had to take mine apart 3 times and flip each cable to make sure it was correct
