Need a new battery for the JBL Charge 3? Watch this video on how to replace it. It is relatively easy, except getting the right passive radiator removed without damaging the clips. Enjoy, and post questions, if you have any!
Thanks for this I followed to open my JBL Charge 3 as it had rattling passive bass driver. I found out that the cords from the battery were touching the driver so it made this crazy annoying sound. I first thought that driver is leaking air but it was not. If you have similar problem just check this tip.
I succeeded to remove the plastic circle without damaging it a lot by popping it up instead of twisting it, I just used a flat screw driver to free the clips one at the time. Thanks a lot for this vid 👍
For the tabs on the woofer cover, use an old credit card, chop it in half, then wedge each half under the tabs, twist and comes off easy with no damage, thanks for the video!
just replaced the battery myself thanks to your video instead of buying a new one like my wife suggested. thank you for the video, feels great to fix it instead of throwing it out for a simple 15 minute problem. awesome video
Hello, I also followed this video and changed the battery on my Charge3. It worked a treat. Thanks for the clear and informative instruction. You saved my speaker from the recyclers and saved me a heap of cash by buying a battery instead of a whole new speaker. Thanks so much - Peter V.
Clear. Complete. Easy to follow. Though my model was slightly different, his direction was so effective I was able to quickly adapt. Thank you!! My Charge 3 breathes new life.
This is an excellent video - thank you! I want to note that there were key differences with my Charge 3; all the screws were the same diameter and length. The end caps each had 1 screw to remove and then twisting them off was very easy, no prying needed at all.
I just removed the end by simply putting a guitar pick under each longer tab. No need to pry stuff under all four tabs trying hard to remove it... just put something small under the longer plastic tabs found on two sides to get it over the ridge, and twist the end off. It's actually designed to come off like this with zero damage.
I see that there is a spot of glue under the speaker housing and after watching your vid I just lifted the circular housing to break free the spots of glue and twisted it off. Thanks for the Video!!!
Hi Eddie! Where are those glue spots located specifically? I've been trying to open the speaker to gain access to the battery for 1 hour, but no luck...:(
@@bertasanzmorello6084 I recommend put some thin plastic under each attachment and warm it up a little with a hairdryer than you can try to twist it or pull it off, it should go off easier
Thank you for the easy to follow breakdown install and put back together ❤ My charge 3 gets heavy use and charges. Noticed battery life weakening and slight rattle through speakers. Ordered new battery ( found out my old battery was SWOLLEN !) New battery in and working good as new! Thank you for the video
Great video and very helpful. As you noted, there are some pitfalls. In fact, I've put together carburetors that were easier. Some units have more screws. But your instructions and demo were great. My JBL is back to its usual great sound. But next time, I'm going to purchase a new unit, maybe a BOSE.
Thank you! Easy to follow! I had the hardest time putting the "skin" back on at the end, specifically lining up those two holes at the fold into the mini notches. ☺️👍🏽
Thanks. Battery changed! Old battery was swollen and scary looking; sound no longer fuzzy either. I used toothpicks to hold open the clips on the round end cap as I twisted it off. Clips didn't break.
Thank you mygiguser for the relaxed tone and methodical way of replacing the battery. Well done. Your video + an Amazon battery saved me buying another speaker. My grill did not simply pop out. My hunch is that I have an updated design with the end caps slightly different from yours. I found two (2) notches left and right near the screws that needed prying gently around the 1:10 mark. Thanks again!
Great video, I had a successful battery replacement while following it. The design of mine incorporated screws on the end instead of those plastic tabs that were broken so that part was a lot easier for me. Thanks!
Thanks. Really helped me get started taking the cover off. The rest was pretty easy. I did notice that my replacement batter is 6000mAh while the original was 6200mAh. Hope that won’t mess anything up. It seems to be working!

Hi how are things? I am trying to see how to somehow replace that dark and shiny sector that holds the central part of the membrane, which is like an area of metal or sheet metal. At certain frequencies they vibrate because they are loose and they lack that. I don't know if it's a ring made of some material, or just glue of some kind. That sound drives me crazy when it lights up like a bee passing near my ears. Bzzzz bzzzzz. If you have information on this, I hope you can help me. Thank you very much for your time.
They call that passive radiator. It is just a rubber membrane that is stiffened by a piece of plastic. If it is loose you can glue it back on, maybe with hot glue? Buzzing noise is often caused by loose wires behind that passive radiator. Especially those flat band cables make a sound like that.
If the battery is low and it can't hold a charge for a long and needs to be replaced can it be sent back to the company jbl to get a new battery or do you have to do that yourself?
Im pretty sure i just lost both my hands, wrists, and a shoulder trying to get the side thing off (even with a ton of tools n wedging and everything) after a little break to calm down i yanked out most of the wedging thingies and gave it one more try and mygod she finally opened (im just happy that i opened the right side lol, if i had screwed that up I'd have tossed the whole thing in a lake)
@@mygiguser amazing! i googled for this advice for about 10 minutes and found nothing - now i'm really thankful for getting knowledge out of the yt comment section again :D
So I replaced my battery but it won't charge all the way till all lights are on, it was on the charger for like 2 hours. What do I do, I was sent a second battery do I try that one?
I pulled the new battery out and discovered an extra wire in the middle of the group, the other new battery also had this, where did you order your batteries from so I don't get a stupid battery again😂
I've changed the battery, it worked normally for 4-5 hours, but it suddenly stopped working, I opened it again and reconnected the wire, it started to work. Again it worked 4-5 hours and same happened. I think the battery is good, after 10 hours working its on second light (from forth). I think wire connection is bad, after reconnecting it starts to work from the same light point. have you ever had such problem and how did you solve?
I have had a bad replacement battery with a similar problem. There is a battery management board (BMS) inside the battery, and it had cold solder joints.

0:15 it's weird hearing it cause im using same speaker
After I took the sides off, the bass stopped working completely. Still sound when I play music but no bass at all. Do you have any idea about what I should do?
@@mygiguser I have realized that the problem probably is that it doesn’t come in as much air in the speaker that it needs to be for the bass to work properly. Do you know where the air “inhale” is?
Is there a way to check the health of the battery? my charge 3 still has a acceptable battery life when i only play music but when I use it a a powerbank for my phone it drains really fast without charging my phone all that much
@@kuamhar1936 I upgraded my Charge 3 with 18650 Lithium Ionen Battery's yesterday and working better than Lithium Polymer shit. I inspired by mygiguser with the Battery Management System 😉
Meaning to say sir, it can't be run with out battery...the battery is more tha 3k, im not sure the 1500 or 1, 900 is good or not...i aware to scam my money...
I am not affiliated with any particular company, but out of my own experience with different vendors, i always had a good experience with Cameron Sino. You can search for it on the Amazon or Ebay.
@@mygiguser Since you’re replying: What is needed when 1. the units don’t link. And 2. when the unit doesn’t stay on for long? Who can answer such questions?? Thanx…
