Putting a few popular flagship loudspeakers head to head. I'm working with what I have at my disposal here - these speakers are not necessarily direct, lateral competitors. However, on paper, their specs aren't too different, making the choice between these speakers a tougher decision. Headphones recommended for this sound quality comparison!
Results: The SRX815P and K12.2 don't sound as different as you might expect. The SRX815P is clearly louder at maximum volume. The KW153 has the clearest midrange vocals, as it should since it was the only 3-way speaker in the lineup. The SRM212 has a discernable sweetness in the high's that sounds really clean and pleasant. The VRX932LAP has the least amount of LF of the options shown, but the HF carried the furthest. Plus they're meant to be used over subs anyway.
Keep in mind, the VRX932LAP's are not meant to be deployed tilted upright, as was shown in this test. They only have a 15º vertical dispersion. Rotating the unit on its side causes this 15º vertical dispersion to become 15º horizontal dispersion. That said, this orientation was an intentional choice to maintain the same tweeter-over-woofer configuration of the competitors, and I was on axis for this comparison.
If your dream flagship top speaker wasn't shown in this test, then I unfortunately don't have it at my disposal. Please don't ask unless you're going to purchase one for me to test!
Max SPL Specs:
JBL SRX815P: 137dB
JBL VRX932LAP: 136dB
Mackie SRM212: 135dB
QSC KW153: 134dB
QSC K12.2: 132dB

I own all of these except the Mackie. They all have different uses. The VRX are a constant curvature array system and if you don’t use with other speakers stacked, you’ll be missing out. They do tend to have more high end due to the 3 horns but, they are by far the most accurate and clear speaker of those in the test. I used them for live bands and musical theater and corporate events where I need to have even coverage across a large area. Just beware that in order to get the most out of that speaker, you will need speaker lifts and be able to stack at least 3 per side. The srx815 is an amazing speaker. Great sound and high spl without clipping or distortion. It can be a bit bass heavy but, great for dj work or without a sub. The kw153 and the K12.2 are my least favorite. They tend to distort earlier than the others in the test in my experience. The 153 is heavy as hell and sound quality is not up to par. The qsc 12.2 is great for corporate speaking events. They look clean and are clear at medium volume. Not my favorite for music at high spl.

I was a QSC fan until I put them next to the JBL SRX and higher end Electro voice. I have Experience with the JBL SRX812 and they sound amazing and power with the general presets. SRX DSP can also be custom. The JBL PRX would be more in the same price bracket as the QSC K2.0 but I think still sounds more natural but a more detail DSP on the QSC. Another brand I’d like to hear compared is the RCF and Nexo.

Correct, they're meant to be used with subs. But I threw them into the mix here since there's not many videos showing the VRX tops in action.

Great comparison. The SRX with the 15 does sound a little more subby, but I am looking forward to getting 212 soon.

The mackie sounds lower in volume than the others, but still balanced. I gotta give the win to the JBLSRX815P, with Mackie SRM212 a close second

Unreal man, what a great comparison. Since you were in person, do you feel this was representative of what you were hearing live? I liked the mid and vocal clarity of the KW153. Shopping for a band PA for a large funk band playing higher-end private events. Would appreciate your advice, you’re clearly a guy who knows what you’re doing.

Yeah this test is reasonably close to the real life experience. Of course, you're hearing it through my microphone and your speakers/headphones, but it's pretty close. The KW153's do have added vocal clarity with the dedicated mid. But it's never a bad idea to rent a few different rigs to try before buying!

@@BrianDiener man that’s definitely what I’d do but I’m in a small market (Spokane, WA) and rentals are booked a year out, unfortunately. Was otherwise planning on the old standby K12.2’s. I’m hesitant to drop $30k without hearing this stuff first and I’m also unsure that we’d need to throw that far outside of a few venues in the region. Is there something you think I’m missing in between the two? Sincerely appreciate the video and comment my friend.

I think the Mackie srm215 would have been a better choice to compare with the other 15's... I have a pair of these as well as 2 QSC KS118's and also a pair of JBL SRX828SP's for bottom end... Still a great video!

I like the k12.2 for highs and 212 for clear highs and the kw153 is little too much mids and the 815 is good for bass and the 932 is a array so it doesn’t have LF since it pairs with subs so ima give like 3.5/5 for 815 since is heavy and good for 153 I will give like 3/5 since is very heavy and little too much mids and for 212 ima give a 4.5/5 for clear highs and 2.5/5 for k12.2 it doesn’t get loud but it gets harsh at high volumes but at low volume is nice and clear

Hi! I would like to buy a new pair of active spekaers, now I have a pair of QSC k12.2, I want my new speakers to sound as close as possible to L-acoustics speakers for example x12, because I love them but dont have the budget. I would like to stick with 12" cabinets, weight don't matter just sound quality and sound pressure. I chose some speakers which i like so It would be the best to choose from them, but if you have another alternativ im all ears. So here are the competitors: Yamaha DZR 12, JBL SRX 812p, EV ETX 12p, QSC KW122, FBT MITUS 112A, FBT Ventis 112A, RCF NX32a, RCF NX 912-A, DAS Audio Vantec-12A, HK Audio LINEAR 3 112 FA and HK Audio Linear 5 MKII 112 FA. I would like to buy a speaker which everytime I turn it on it puts a smile on my face. I would like to hear stunning vocals, unbelievable details, Huge volume, smooth high and mids and at last but not least deep and even lows. I will use these speakers without any subwoofer so they needs to have a lot of headroom in the lows. Mostly I'm gonna use them as mains for small bands, or dj monitors, home listening, corporate shows, and rarlly on bigger events with rented subwoofers so It would be cool if the sound could be easily matched with any bigger brand of subs, what I could find to rent out. Thank you all your work what you gonna put in to help me decide!
