Its an affordable 2 way bookshelf, lets not criticize it for its lack of diamonds and gold lol. Come on. I just bought an immaculate pair of 290's (biggest in the series) they sound great. Do they sound like $10,000? No. Like $1,200 speakers? YES!

About the defect: they had to be made in MADE IN CHINA. But that’s okay, because you need to look them over during the warranty and repair them yourself after it expires. But they sound good.

No internal bracing. No mass adding internal cabinet plates. No silicon de coupling gaskets. A max 20 euros huge improvement.

I ordered mine a week and a half ago. It arrived with a few defects (tilted JBL logo and waveguide popping out more on certain corners than others) on both speakers. I tried pushing in the waveguide to no avail. One waveguide is popping out more than the other speaker, but it’s all good. I usually notice details on everything, so I expected this much. I can’t expect more from a product made in China, but I am satisfied with the tone quality. For this price range I would have gone for another pair of Rokit 5s but sending these back would take too much time and labor. I got them for $249, which is an okay deal. I’m overall happy with the speakers, I already own a pair of Rokits and these JBLs will serve more of a reference during my music production. I really hope JBL gets its act together, I’ve always been a huge fan of them but now I just can’t take them too serious anymore. I would have gone for the Elac’s if I knew these speakers would arrive with defects. All good though, it is what it is. I’m going for the Elacs B6.2 next.

Power handling is 20-150 watts. 88db sensitivity.

@Peder Hansen well they would not post an intermittent power rating as that would lead to some serious warranty issues. 20 is the minimum needed to drive them properly and 150 is the max continuous. Not sure how else to put it.

How do these things perform? I’m guessing not so good, right?JBL use to be so good back in the day and it’s just sad how shit they became. It’s like at some point they decided money is more important then sound quality and rep. I still luv there vintage gear though. I still use a set of JBL L36 with my Marantz 2238 and to me they sound great.

I agree that it is tough to match the vintage equipment. I have a set of JBL L26 and JBL L100 hooked up on a Marantz 2252 and they're great speakers to listen to. A/B'ing them back and forth, the JBL L26 have a pretty lean midrange compared to the L100 but still a great sound. However A few years back I picked up a set of JBL Studio 190 towers (same components as the JBL Studio 2 line but in the weird looking cabinet that nobody semed to like) and to my pleasant surprise they performed very very well. The Studio 190 towers also sound great hooked up to the Marantz receiver and they have excellent low bass performance with high volume capability.

Since the person who actually film the video sees a lot of speaker components I would wonder what their opinion is on this versus other speakers of the same price range. And to all the people crapping on this speaker your opinion is useless without offering an alternative at the same price. Be sure you don't choose something else this guy has opened up though because I'm sure people are shiting on that video too

@@robg915 Reviews by whom? Sponsored youtubers/article writers? Come on. Go listen to these at your nearest Best Buy/music store and tell us if these do sound great. JBL hi fi = Sony. Pure garbage. You want JBL buy their vintage gears or their pro audio lines. Those are better sounding and built with quality in mind.

Peder Hansen yes the woofer is shielded. The reason is because a lot of people are going to have this on there desks next to a computer.

Peder Hansen it’s not the monitor you need to worry about it’s the computer itself. As an example I set my phone by an unshielded speaker by mistake and it crashed the thing. You can corrupt storage in your computer as well.

Peder Hansen I’m not sure how susceptible electronics are today but I think it’s good practice to keep distance between a magnet and a computer, especially over a long time period.

Typical build for price point. The Boston Acoustics CR8 in my basement are built a tad better, but cost 50% more. In SOUND QUALITY comparisons I've read these do very well in their price range ranking in the top three of dozens tested. I'm sure my old Dahlquist DQM-3 from the late 80's are better and one dahlquist crossover board would likely cost more than 2 pairs of these JBL. Still, I have enjoyed the decades old and modest JBL 2800 8" 2 ways GREATLY with low power class A tube amps. They match up quite well. I am not brand biased. Good sound is good sound - period.

A potential upgrade would be to replace the series electrolytic for the tweeter but then you may have to add some resistance to make up for some ESR loss from removing the cap. You would need a FFT setup to measure changes and make adjustments. So not for the casual hobby guy or gal.

There seems to be different JBL ranges, this stuff is cheap and nasty and does nothing for the JBL name. However they make proper speakers for the domestic market under the name JBL Synthesis.

Never use that song again, lmao. If i buy these, ill be putting better gaskets around everything and also changing out those shitty electrolytics with dayton audio pmpc polypropylene capacitors or wima mkp4's, for speakers as good as these, there is no reason to be using shit capacitors in the crossovers... also getting rid of that shit ceramic resistor and putting a mills resistor inside... id also get rid of the clip on terminals on the tweeter woofer crossover and solder the wires directly with silver baring solder for a better connection and also re solder everything on that crossover board after removing old solder, perhaps even thickin the traces a bit.... then these speakers would be as they should, people saying these speakers are horrible are quite ignorant indeed... they have potential, especially if drivin with a good tube amp.
