The JBL Xtreme 4's replacement battery removal is easy enough to do, providing you have the right tool to remove the battery housing cover. You just need a T27 Torx screwdriver bit and your good to go. Do be careful not to damage the inner seal though, or you'll take away the IP67 waterproof capability on this great but quite expensive Bluetooth speaker.

Battery type: Li-ion polymer 68Wh
(equivalent to 7.2 V/9444 mAh)
Battery charge time: 3.5 hours
(20V/3A input)
Music play time: up to 24 hours
(dependent on volume level and
audio content)
Being able to replace the battery on your JBL speakers will hopefully add years of life to your speaker. There's no price or availability for replacement batteries at this time though, so we'll just have to wait and see!

The Xtreme 4 battery has a capacity of 9444 mAh, while the Bombox 3 battery has a capacity of 9600 mAh. Both batteries are type 2S.

The only portable speaker with removable battery was yhe soundboks but it weights 35 lbs. I was looking for something lighter with swapping battery. Definitely will buy it.

I wasn't aware of soundboks tbh. Just had a look on their website and yeh it's a big speaker for sure, and replaceable battery like you say, thanks for sharing.

@@MyTechTalks I bought a soundboks2 five years ago, and also bought an extra battery, tbh I've only replaced the battery few times, but it's always nice not to worry about getting out of power in the middle of the party. Soundboks is an incredible speaker, take a look on it.

Not by jbl, at least not yet, but I do know there are battery chargers available on the market that might do the job. Ebay possibly? It's really new though so it's a bit of a long shot. It's jbl's own battery too of course so not a standard unit and therefore difficult to match with a charger. Good point though 👍

Too bad the design wasnt a bit different. I think a quicker swap out would be better that way if your out and about and you have extra batteries to keep it going it would just be easier with a different swap out setup. Kind of a bummer tbh.

Someone else said that, but the battery lasts up to 24 hours, so you'll get at least 20 from it so shouldn't need to swap hopefully. I think the speakers overall size could be more of an issue for being out and about. The replaceable battery is more for when the battery's health diminishes I think, which they do over time. And tbh it's only two little bolts anyway, so not a big thing really I don't think. I get where you're coming from though.

They are probably aiming for a bit of water resistance which is easier with a screw in.

Kudos for making the battery removable... cricicism for another proprietary connector... pity they didn't make a usb plug sticking out.

Are you talking about the power supply plug? If so it needs to be this way to accommodate a slightly thicker cable as this battery is bigger than most. If you mean something to do with the battery connection, I'm not sure what you mean exactly?

Good point, but hopefully you won't have to because it lasts such a long time, up to 24 hours so should last around 20 for sure. I think it's really for when the battery health starts to diminish and needs to be replaced.

I don't know why, but the original JBL Xtreme 4 charger does not charge my phone or speaker. Does anyone have problems with the JBL 4 Xtreme charger, used for the first time and unfortunately it does not work.

Obviously double check power supply is actually coming through with another device, and if the charger proves to be faulty just send it back. Annoying hassle I know but what else can you do?! Hope you get it sorted one way or another 🤞
