This story popped up on my page, and has me about in tears. I met JD long, long ago when I was a teenager, and watched him sing lower than the piano. I am glad that he was saved and I will see him in Heaven. World's lowest bass singer, with such power that he broke the diaphragms of his mics.
As a Christian, it was especially touching to me. Knowing that someone repented and turned to God is the greatest new I could hear! I'm glad Ken got to share it with us. Turning to Jesus and submitting to Him is the best thing we can do 😁
I believe that Mark Lowry also played a huge part in leading JD to the Lord. Ken also played a small part as well of course. You don’t have to do huge things even if it is something small like talking to someone or witnessing, God will see that seeds have been planted. At least in his last few years he could sing those gospel songs with true conviction. So glad he made peace with the Lord.
I've heard preachers talk about this very subject: Just because you go to church & sing in a choir, doesn't automatically mean your saved. Just like: living in a garage doesn't make you a car. I'm so glad that out of God's mercy and His willingness that no should perish, but come to repentance; that He spoke to JD Sumner, that he was moved in such a way and eventually became saved. Praise The Lord for his loving mercy, His loving kindness and compassion!
Thanks for sharing Ken. I am now 80 years old. Most of my friends have gone on to be with the Lord. When you get down to the end of the way there is only one question on your mind. Are you lost or saved? It's amazing how many friends we have who are lost. Now, when I visit my friends in the hospital or hospice I always ask "How are things between you and the Lord?". If they don't know for sure, I ask another question. Who is the most famous person you have ever met? They may name a politician or a performer. I then ask where they were and what were the circumstances? They usually give great detail. I then ask them "If you were to meet the Lord Jesus, the Son of God, The King of Kings, don't you think you would remember it?". The response is usually "Are you saying I am not saved?" I say no, I'm just asking a question. It's then easy to lead them to the Lord. It's never too late. If you aren't sure yourself, make sure. If you don't know how, find someone who does. We are going to be held accountable for missed opportunities. That's the biggest guilt you will ever experience. Being a part of the Harvest is also one of the greatest blessings you will ever receive. Ask Ken. He knows.
Thanks for sharing this, Ken. I had heard from a friend in the Nashville area that J.D. experienced a spiritual transformation near the end of his life. I also heard that Mark Lowrey had an influence upon him coming to the Lord. I also know that the Lord used your time and your testimony to plant seeds in J.D.'s life.
Very close relative was regional promoter of and friend to JD & the Stamps. He was like a father to his younger front row Southern Gospel Music followers. It was said he told those "Stampettes" not to attend his last farewell show. He jokingly said he did not want to see 'all that mascara running everywhere'. Great guy, great voice, AND a great writer.
That’s the best testimony I’ve ever heard and God is there for anyone! He says meet me half way and he’ll do the rest !! I’ve met and talked to J.D.before and he’s only a man like the rest of us ! We all need God no matter who we are !! Without him we are doomed !! Bless America!!
Here a man that was a good friend to j.d. sumner and didn't judge him from his pass a friend is always a friend. It people that like to judge us and we don't the right to no one he without sin cast the first stone this is a friend that many people need i would say hes my friend. He give love and show went j. D. Need some one to talk to didnt get to but god put this man in the at the right time. God bless this man that the biggest ❤❤❤❤❤
Tracy Somerset, I’m only 26; but I grew up listening to him. Please tell him I believe he’s one of the greatest gospel singers of all times! He, JD, and George Younce. One can’t help but feel like Ken is your grandpa when you watch him. I have a profound respect for him! Please give him a big hug for me! I’m always praying for him.
I wonder what year this was that Ken was talking about. All those years being around all the influence of the Lord we can still be far away from him. I'm glad for Ken's story it helped me.
J d needed son one and God sent him to you. J d made mistake like we all have. Mary knew but she forgave him and still loved him. His dream was telling him to wake up before it's too late he needed some to talk and God used you.❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
It's a puzzle to me how someone can sing gospel music all of their life yet not believe in the message of the songs they are singing. Donnie Sumner, JD's nephew, tells a similar story.
From what I understand it’s not unheard of for liquor bottles to be on “quartet” buses. JD was a reprobate for many years. Hopefully he made it in. If he did it wasn’t his desire to be with his wife that got him there. Grace did.
reprobate? Boy, aren't you feeling judgemental. I don't know any perfect human beings, maybe you are the first. JD often said "if not for Jesus, I'd be in a heck of a mess". We should all approach God with that kind of humility.
This seems kind of fishy! im pretty sure JD was a Christian since youth after reading his Biograpghy. And after seeing how much he loved his wife i dont htink he was ever disloyal to her. Most of the songs that JD wrote have very deep spiritual meanings, it would be kind of silly if he was a non-believer writing these songs.
This story is the truth, people can be believe ,but they must confess their sins ask forgiveness and accept the Lord n then live for his Glory. To be saved you must repent. Amen. God Bless Ken for sharing this and for all the years he sang n traveled for the Lord.
All due respect ,be careful when questioning any servant or Man if God. I know Ken, and He's Sang and Traveled spreading the Good news through Song. Very kind humble and funny Guy. May God Bless N Keep Him Always🙏🙌
