@@evakiss2562 regardless of how rude or "outrageous" someone acts, you don't get to decide that person doesn't get to live because you got your fe fe's hurt. Adults in a civilized society are supposed to be able to control themselves, even when they are done wrong. This is how a child acts. Gets so overwhelmed by emotions that they can't stop themselves from lashing out. But I thought all that talk about women and their emotions was just the patriarchy trying to bring them down. Hmmm.......
@@airstream_transformations9556 and God knows that deserves the death penalty, right? How do you sleep at night after saying things like "I don't feel bad for the murder victim"? I'm sure you are the very example of virtue and have never disrespected someone. I swear I wouldn't believe people like you exist if I didn't come across you myself
Kate was overwhelmed with knowing she was being treated like she was nothing!!! An act of passion… I feel for her!!! Her husband and his mistress were disrespectful to her to her in her family’s home!!!
Could all have been avoided if the husband had not disrespected his wife in front of everyone and put his energy into his marriage instead of dallying with his side chick.
Yeah, if my husband was publicly carrying on with his side chick in front of all my friends and family, especially after having been asked to not do this exact thing, there would be two bodies on the floor.
I suspect he enjoyed making her jealous to make himself feel so beloved. He must have thought of this whole drama as some sort of romantic game. If he wouldn't, he wouldn't have eloped with she. But in the end, we don't even know if he indeed went back home late because of Narcissa. It's pure hearsays. There are a lot of scandalous activities you can make at night, not necessarily involving adultery.
Bob probably fled with her because he was like "OMG, I was just playing around a little... She really loves me that much?? I must protect her!" Before that, he probably thought intense romantic sentiments were only something existing in schmaltzy romance novels. You know, maybe he also felt like he was nothing besides good look and social standing.
@@nozoto He likely knew she was pregnant. His choice to dance with the her, when he knew of the rumors!? grrr She brought it on herself, being a bitch. She just had to dance with him in front of everyone, that was a big F you! Do I think her response proper?! No absolutely not, but she was humiliated and shocked and pregnant. It was a spur of the moment killing, not first degree murder. I guess she taught her husband what lengths she would go to to defend her honor, and his love.
Even though murder is terrible and unthinkable, putting anyone in complete embarrassment and ridicule would put anyone at risk of behavior that wouldn't be normal for that individual. Good call by governor
@@miapdx503 😂😂 i dont get it, why have do sneek around, not to mention hurt the person your with. If not happy leave, its like in the crime stories, they think murder is easier then divorce🤔
Crimes committed in the heat of passion are excused in some modern day societies still. Brazil is one country in which a jilted lover can, in a fit of rage, commit a crime of passion, killing the cheater and need only turn themselves in afterwards for a greatly reduced punishment phase. France, Italy, Texas believe it not, Australia, Portugal, and others have provisions in the law justifying homicide under the code of honor when dealing with interlopers and or cheating spouses. not saying this is right or wrong but the strain and pressure that such an event would impose upon the psyche would be mind altering at best.
She asked him nicely not to embarrass her in front of her family and he did. He should have been held accountable too. I love you BC I don’t know how you do it but once again a fabulous case. Thank you😎
The behaviour of the husband and his father and brothers was quite extraordinary! Despite witnessing the horror of what Kate did, they all acted in unison on the spur of the moment and gave up everything to protect her from the law, voluntarily becoming fugitives themselves. Not many men, either then or now, would be so noble. On that basis alone, this has to be one of the most bizarre Brief Cases I've seen.
Yes! I was thinking the same thing. That was truly extraordinary. What must that be like to be so valued and cared for that people drop everything to rush to your aid, at great expense to themselves.
Man, thats a Christmas party the guests probably didnt forget. This was a really good episode. It's like something out a novel. The loose woman trying to steal the husband away from the protagonist. He uncontrolled jealousy leading to a murder in front of the entire town, followed by their run from the law and eventual trial and pardon. Good stuff
"Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned..." I am glad that the governor commuted Kates' sentence. While murder is not to be condoned, this situation occurred as a result of an emotional reaction of a deeply hurt person. As the doctor testified, Kates was also having diminished psychological state as a result of seizure. Thank you, BC. Another fascinating case:).
I wonder if you read the same case today, if you would make the same comment. We can't stab someone everytime we are humiliated. I'm glad however that her sentence was commuted. I also feel that she did have some mental issue, so that needed to be taken account.
What an interesting story… It was a difficult moral case, but for once, the eventual punishment was, in my view, fair. It would be considered a crime of passion/temporary insanity today. Thank you again BC!
I wanted to mention what you said about education, that it was important for reading, writing, and arithmetic. So important and now here it is barely taught anymore.
My dear brief case, I've been with you for a few years now!!! Now like back then, you still make my Mondays better as I love looking forward every week til Monday mornings so thank you
I just love you so much ! I listen to you every night to sleep! I hope you’re not offended! I’m old and you have a lovely voice! Plus I love true crime 💁🏼♀️
Thank you for all your hard work and time you put into the narration of these crime stories. It's unreal of how many crime stories there is in the world. But the way you tell them keeps us so interested..Thank you! You have a talent..I can only listen on the weekends..but they are so good.
Kate said to her husband "Hey, do you think you can maybe avoid utterly humiliating me on Christmas day in front of my family and the community at large?" and Bob really said "Nah" and thought it would end well. That being said, there's no doubt Kate absolutely deserved jail time: no matter how rude, disrespectful or annoying they are, you can't just stab people you dislike to death.
Actually, Narcissa is a beautiful name: from the flower narcissus (daffodil/jonquil) named for the vain young Greek god. I don’t think Kate was jealous of her, just enraged that she was disrespecting her marriage, her dignity.
I read her name as a "narcissist." And indeed she was. Imagine going to a Christmas party and instead of allowing her lover and his wife to have the main dance - she decided to have it with him .Totally showing/flaunting - I have dominion over your husband. He does not even want to have sex with you, he prefers my bed.'Them there fighting words (actions). Glad she lived.
Bob was a complete jerk. And the inviting of Narcissa to the party was also a stupid move if she was the kind of woman to sneak about walking in the woods with a married man. I feel the commuted sentence was appropriate, as was the guilty verdict, but I feel Bob got off lightly for instigating the whole thing and that Kate's parents should have been more concerned with her emotional well being than making everything look right socially with the handling of the party. Great story, good cautionary tale!
The only thing about the parents inviting them though is that they were hoping that Bob would show his love to Kate in front of everybody to dispel the rumors and make Kate feel better. But... Bob's an sob 🙄
@@laurieb3703 You know, thinking further on this, I wonder if Narcissa was blackmailing Bob. That is a very far fetched theory, but well.... he might have shared it with his wife but certainly not his in laws and so they invite her and....
@@GrumpyMeow-Meow Good possibility. But his family seemed decent and they certainly supported Kate. We will never really know, but he should have done better so you could be correct.
Poor Kate, I've felt those feelings Kate felt. I don't condone murder I can understand her anger and pain..I would support Kate if this was now... Bob was very similar to what I have known personally.. rip Kate xx
TRUE!!! ...But just like names seems to suddenly pop up from nowhere and become popular in current times (sort of like a 'fad'), they did the same in the 19th Century, and during the time that Narcissa was born, the name Narcissa may have been a 'fad' name because that was also around the time that Narcissa Wentworth was born.
I was glad Kate got her sentence commuted and was rehabilitated. That said, it can’t have been much fun being a guest at that ball with the floor running with blood .. yech! Their flight from the town with pistols at the ready is straight out of the Wild West. (Keep away from me and my wife or I’ll shoot my way outta here. Go on punk - make my day!) And Kate’s father, who invited the appropriately named Narcista and her family to the ball, didn’t seem to like or consider his own daughter much. This would make a good true life film drama 🎬
Wow, what surprised me the most was that he was still there when she got out of prison! He must have had a lot of guilt . She was a very pretty girl, the other woman didn’t hold a candle to her 🙏🙏🙏👵🇦🇺
You can't tell from a photo. Some women who are considered beautiful- it's more to do with the way they act and flirt. There are many women men can't resist that women don't see as good looking at all!
"Wow, what surprised me the most was that he was still there when she got out of prison! He must have had a lot of guilt." Or, no other woman wanted to be found with Bob once Kate was released from prison 😉
If only all conniving low class "women" could be handled as such. We are our own worst enemy. As soon as women realise we should support each other rather than compete, we remove the option for men to cheat.
A sensible outcome, at the end of the day. Funny how public pressure had an effect on these sentences, in these days. You'd think the public would have been ignored!
Jealousy, abuse and greed, are always one or in some combination, at base of these crimes. I wonder if these kinds of things were talked about in school if they could be avoided. I know mental health also needs to be paid attention to, but it might help to talk about these issues because we see them over and over again.
That poor lass, falling in love was the worst thing to happen to her. She lost everything. There is that saying "You should never sh*t in your own nest". Her husband and his girlfriend not only openly did it, but did it with his young wife in the nest. The other woman obviously had been brought up to believe she could have whatever she wanted as she was more entitled. Thank you so much, BC ❤ I wonder if her child ever saw her again. I hope that she had some happiness.
One would assume that she saw her child again since she only served a relatively short time in prison then went on to have five more kids with Bob and died at an old age.
@@BriefCaseOfficial You perfectly possess that wonderful wow factor!! Each and every narration is flawlessly fabulous 🤩 Thank you for having been born, Emperor of Exquisiteness!!!
Good morning Brief Case. I'm off from work and catching up on your videos. Thank you soo much for the consistent uploads. 😊 I'm relaxing before I mow the grass later this morning. 😌 I will enjoy these before I'm sweltering after the grass cutting. 🥵
Although Kate's husband was not liable by law for the murder of this woman, there were moral implications since he also was a co-conspirator in incurring jealousy within Kate that led up to her murdering the Southern Belle (sorry, can't recall her name now).
@@laurieb3703 I agree. I used that designation for the 'sweaty cow' only because I was writing my comments as B.C. narrated and I could not remember her name. Sometimes I have to hear names repeatedly for them to stick in my mind.
"Narcissa Coward" was unfortunately well-named, and contributed much to her undoing, while Bob Southern was clearly weak in many ways, and even a bit daft. But Kate seems to have had a legitimate medical or psychiatric problem, and these came together in a perfect storm that ended in murder.
