Rebel is seriously underrated. In "Les Elements", anticipating Beethoven's Symphony 9, he wrote a dissonant chord including all the degrees of the minor scale. Just as Buxtehude did in his sonatas opp. 1&2, he considered that the Italian tradition (Corelli) with two violins was poorly balanced between trebble and bass, and replaced the second violin by a viola di gamba.
