And here is the recipe for Hannah’s Butter Cookies
INGREDIENTS
1 pound butter (never margarine!) room temperature
1 ⅓ cup granulated sugar
5 c. flour
6 egg yolks
2 teaspoons vanilla
½ teaspoon salt
METHOD
* Preheat oven 375 degrees
* Cream butter and sugar.
* Add salt, egg yolks, and vanilla.
* Gradually mix in flour. If using a stand mixer, change to a dough hook after the 2nd or 3rd cup of flour. Optional: divide dough into thirds and tint one batch with red food coloring and one batch with green food coloring.
* Use a cookie press to shape cookies.
Bake for 6 - 8 minutes, just until brown on the bottom.
My family moved to King of Prussia, PA, when I was 5 years old. My mother became friends with Hannah who lived in the block behind ours. She was a German war bride and spoke very little English but she and my mom communicated well enough to exchange recipes. That is why we always call these Hannah's Cookies! My sisters and I continue the tradition of making these butter cookies every Christmas!

Thanks for showing the satin stitch. Your videos are always soinfirmative and helpful. I noticed so many flosstubers doing 40, 50 ,60 starts for the new year 2024. I have decided to go the opposite way. Pairing down my stitching to just a couple of projects at a time. I think this is my comfort zone, but I will enjoy watching everyone else mega stitching and buying :) to each their own. Happy stitching.

Jean, I appreciate you as a teacher. You are not always parading what you have bought. Yes, you are also selling your work, But I never feel like you are pushing things. I have really limited what I am watching for that reason. Thank you for your clear demo of satin stitch. Merry Christmas!

Very good topic. I find you are more of an educator and I appreciate it so much. I have deleted some flosstubers because only in my opinion, they buy all this “haul” and I feel like they brag about it. I actually felt myself going into a very depressing state of mind because I don’t have the extra money to buy everything. One person I use to listen to would use the word “free” when something was “gifted” to her. I am more into the tips, tricks and stories of floss tubers. Thank you once again. Happy Holidays to you and your family

Thank you again for the excellent, clear teaching. Thank you again for practical, reasonable advice. Thank you again for encouragement. I dont "do" social media, but from watching Flosstubers ,I understand the problem of being swayed to do things not neccessarily good for that person. However, your influence on me has been extremely helpful. I returned to cross stitch this year after about 30 years, and after finding your videos , I have learned to stitch on linen (still a novice!) and how to use a sewing method. And to be comfortable NOT buying yards and yards of fabrics and NOT needing lots of cutesy bobbles and NOT kitting up dozens of projects...and NOT to sneer at those who do choose to do those things. (I bought a full coverage pattern in Januarary which led me to Flosstube which led me to you, so, although that piece got shelved and is sitting idle, one ninth done, I am glad I got it, as it started me back down the cross stitching road....which has many, many lanes! )

I totally agree about the social media influence. It is so easy to get drawn to all the things and to accept having so many WIPS. In the end it does not make me happy …so I am going to do me! Thank you for sharing ❣️

Couldn't agree with you more on the influencer phenomenon, you're got to be your own person and stitch what you love. There is so much to stitch so enjoy it, that's what it's all about isn't it? Thank you for sharing your stitching knowledge Jean, happy holidays!

I am with you! I can appreciate a full coverage, but never want to stitch one. It is very easy to be influenced and go down the rabbit hole following the trends, and end up working on something that does not inspire us. Stitch what you love, and love every stitch. ❤

Thanks Jean for the satin stitch tutorial. I usually stitch on higher count linen with one strand & always feel like my work is “thin”. Will take your advice & do some experimenting with 2 strands! Also thanks for the words f advice. I think this could apply to all kinds of crafting. See you soon.

Thankyou for your comments it brought up the saying “ to your own self be true”. As an older person there comes a time when you have to decide if you want to be pressurised by others , listen to others by all means but to your own self be true! Jean I think that you help the stitching community world wide and for that I Thankyou.

Happy to see your framed tablecloth piece on your wall again. It was a lot of work to re-frame it but should keep that lovely piece in good shape for many years. Thank you for the tutorial on satin stitch. I have a few patterns that I might insert that into. I have done a little full coverage, but only tiny pieces. May want to do a big piece someday but haven't seen a piece I love enough to invest all those years of effort into! I'd rather stitch things that I know I can get done. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Wonderful! Thank you for your wise advice. Loved the satin stitch tutorial, even though I have stitched satin stitches before, but a review is always a good thing. I always enjoy your videos. I love the sampler you will be teaching, but I fear that a retreat is out of my realm now. Not only is money a problem (unless I can talk my son into going along with me), but I am partially disabled, and I need help with everything. Walking, breathing, you name it, whatever my body provides does not work. 🤣

I'm just catching up with your videos as it's been quite busy times. Usually as we age, it is said that short hair is better for us. But let me tell you that your longer length hair is actually making you look younger in my opinion. Very interesting and educational video as always, thank you. Stay safe Jean 💕

Thanks for reminding us about stitching what we love not what we think we should be doing. I’m a monogamous stitcher and have to just appreciate all the folks out there with their multiple WIPS and not feel like I’m behind the times.

Thank you for the advice about not being unduly influenced and ending up working on something you really don’t enjoy. For me that is samplers. Horror! I love looking at them, antique and reproduction but not stitching them. I am happy that there is so much else available. Christine from Ontario

Thank you for your floss tube, for the information you freely share, your beautiful patterns, but most of all your encouragement that we enjoy our stitching! The old hippie, ( me) , still likes to rebel against those who try to tell me, I can't stitch an old pattern , ( it's dated, Heaven forbid!), I must use their latest choices of colors, fabrics etc. Loved your story of the butter cookies. Have a Blessed week!!

Jean...thanks for sharing the joy you have in design and stitching...I appreciate the information on the satin stitch...I have a piece with cross stitch in the upper half that was printed on muslin...that part is finished, but the bottom is all satin stitching designs in colonial form, also outlined...what is the best way to approach filling in the muslin part...thanks in advance...best wishes ❤❤

Hello. Thank you for the tutorial. I have always liked the satin stitch. I agree with you on the influencers and how they can change what we stitch. I have one full coverage piece that I started over 20 years ago and probably haven’t stitched on it in almost 10 years but it is coming out next year to get worked on. And I’m starting another one in the new year with a stitching buddy in Ireland and maybe one day we will meet and stitch together on it but for now the joy is in the journey.

Another nice video. Stitching since 1975, and have never done a full coverage, yet I might try one as to challenge myself someday. And I also stitch on many types of fabrics (Aida, eveneweave, linen) and various counts, and occasionally I hear from others ?Why are you stitching on That!!?? " I want so badly to say because I'm not a fabric snob to those of Linen Only, lol. For me it depends on the design for which fabric I choose, yet I do have some favorites. I've noticed some try to pressure others and it all boils down to stitch what you want, when you want & how you want, it's what works for You as this is Your Journey! 😉

I can't say why you are having trouble with the sound but there IS sound on the video. Look to see if there is a slash mark through the sound icon. You may have the sound turned off or maybe the volume is way down. HTH

I always enjoy your very informative videos. I just realized the “Roxie” sampler is a reimagined piece of a sampler you reproduced with a more muted palette. Do you plan to put together a Cosmo floss pack for the “Roxie” sampler or is it also charted with a DMC conversion?
@JeanFarishNeedleworks
@JeanFarishNeedleworks 9 месяцев назад
Yes to everything! The Roxie floss pack is in my Etsy shop now and the PDF download for the sampler includes the list of Cosmo and DMC colors. BTW, the chart pack is pricey because it includes 6 very detailed video tutorials.
