I've listened repeatedly to about 12 versions of FETE on RU-vid. This one is by far my favorite because of the tempo, the articulation, the consistency of attack/release and registration. Some versions are so fast there is no clarity of what is happening. Not so with the Hans-Andre Stamm performance. BRAVO!!!

I agree entirely! I confess that occasionally in my moments of bravura, I'm guilty of playing it rather quickly. All things in context I suppose but this performance is most certainly ideal !!!

Epic playing and fantastic reeds! All the 'jazz' comes out fantastically clearly. Thanks for posting!

This is the best-timed, most accurate version of this on RU-vid. Too many versions play the intro legato-style and that's just not the way it's supposed to be played. This piece will achieve greater recognition in the future. It's phenomenal.

Yes, I find several other recordings of this pieces sound hurried and as a result sometimes acoustically 'muddy' too. Hans' rendition is clear and well-paced. Moreover the majestic final chords always make me cry for some reason.

fburton8 I listened to the playing of this piece by a Mr. Young at a midwestern American university. It's also on RU-vid. Though it got a standing ovation from the young people in attendance, its clarity cannot hold a candle to Mr. Stamm's version. To me, this is the gold standard recording of this piece. Clear, expressive, and with terrific demarcation between the changes of mood. The majestic final chords feel like "victory" to me ... always a sign that the set-up for those chords was well done.

I completely agree, just a stunning, magnificent, noble performance! I sought out the CD on which this is recorded, and the entire CD is completely amazing. It is among the best recorded and performed organ CD I have in my collection of hundreds.

@@Eleuthero5 Cristopher Young performing this at IU is phenomenal. However, one must take into consideration the different acoustics for these recording and instruments.

My discovery of this piece today was a delight. I listened to Mr. Young's performance first, then listened to Mr. Stamm's version, having read a viewer's comment. The acoustical difference between venues is obvious, and I think that perhaps the performances reflect that awareness. Personally I prefer crisp acoustics, such as the Klais in Altenberger Dom, but more significant to this performance is the perfection of timing the tempo and dynamics with the building. The crisp performance of Mr. Stamm is a clinic on staccato and articulation and its relationship to the emotion of the music. If one is listening to technique then there is something wrong: everything should be done in deference to the music. I believe both Mr. Young and Mr. Stamm have demonstrated excellent skills but chosen different paths to perform the same piece of music. We, in the listening group, have relatively small speakers to listen to an acoustical instrument that must be heard in person to really assess the satisfaction of the performance. To that end, our musical experience has to fill in the blank spaces that our limited sound systems provides. That said, I will listen to Mr. Stamm as the example to imitate, but will give kudos and thanks to all who post on youtube. How else will we promote future musicians but to encourage?

"We, in the listening group, have a small audience." "We are in the listening group." Sound systems provides. " Organ music (also on RU-vid) always should be heard with good headphones. Or you can connect a good audio system via the input of the headphone. In my living room there are 4 powerful loudspeakers for the imitation of the Athmossphere of a church (also good for soft tones) - and when the mixtures and trumpets come, my neighbors also are looking forward :)

Quelle superbe version. Pas trop rapide et remarquablement articulée ! Merci pour le partage.

Quelle fête sonore, en particulier avec l'utilisation des chamades et ce rythme effréné !

Dear John, thank you for your esteem. In my eyes you are right, a strict legato - and this is true for the most part of organ music - makes the sound often a bit sticky and makes accents impossible, which on the organ with its non-percussive sound can only be imitated through length of sounds: articulation

Hello Mr. Hans-André Stamm, My name is Jae Park, and I am an undergraduate student studying organ performance at California Lutheran University in the United States. For my upcoming recital, I would like to perform one of your organ and trumpet duet pieces--"Intrada," "Fanfara alla Celtica," or "Echoes of Joy." It looks like the sheet music samples and the recordings on your website are for organ and piccolo trumpet. Do you have ones for trumpet in Bb? Thank you, Jae

Jae Park Hello Jae, please write to info@eufonia.de. I have also a transposition for Bb trumpet as you are not the first who asks for it. For some pieces this works fine, for others it may be not ideal concerning intonation...

You are most welcome, Hans. I enjoy both your playing and your compositions immensely, especially the Toccata from Suite #2. Like "Fete", your compositions seem to balance tension with tunefulness and resolve dark or tense passages in a most satisfying way. This resolution is often lacking in many hypermodern pieces and one feels that one has left the dinner table still hungry! :) Thanks for your many wonderful RU-vid uploads.

In the edition I have, some rhythms are different, particularly each part of the 16ths with the e minor and the changing time signatures. Is what you played what Langlais intended as the rhythm, but got changed in the publishing? Also at the end with final chord you played it as if there was only an eighth rest when in my edition there is an eighth and quarter rest, which is accurate to Langlais?
