@TIA1988you can ask Dr. Lori V. She is very knowledgeable and smart. She can tell you the history of an art work and its price. You can find her on RU-vid
Wrong. He loved, LOVED money. He did everything to get fame and be noticed by rich colectors. Stop making him seem deeper that he really was. Dont get me wrong, he was a GREAT artist, but he didnt paint just to express himself. He wanted to be famous like Worhol, he wanted to be rich like Warhol.
Paintings increase in value when the artist dies. Not sure if Basquiat's work would be as value if he were still alive. Maybe so, A best selling David Hockney went for just under $95m.
He did die of an overdose, not the first and not the last, but he was not broke, destitute or bankrupt. The price at final call was not surprising at all.
If you think Jean-Michel died broke, think again. He was making hundreds of thousands of dollars a week being high and painting whatever he felt like. He did whatever he wanted to do every day, all day long. I think he actually felt guilty because he used to throw hundred dollar bills out of the windows of cabs to poor people. So no, he did not die broke.
Who said that. It's always been known that he he was living it up and making a lot of money at the end of his life. Where have you seen that he died broke?
@@benvallentine7197 ^^^ other guy is speaking out of his ass. People hear addict and think broke, but you need a sizable income to split your septum via coke
Most buyers willing to pay this much money don't even appreciate artworks, they often choose them if name is fashionable. They are on display to show power and wealth until another toy becomes more interesting. It doesn't seem they have capability to understand that his works was interpretation of inner feelings about colonialism and class struggle, yet they pay millions and millions. This is probably why Jean-Michel chose the name "Dustheads" :)
+mrald316 Trust me the parties involved in purchasing this work have already had their teams investigate & do their "due diligence" on the piece before hand. No worries... the piece will some day likely end up in a museum where millions of people will enjoy it. ~Peace~
There are oftentimes viewings leading up to these auctions. It's likely all the people in the audience, with any remote interest, have already spent ample time viewing it and learning of its origins, history, and provenance.
I can restore my truck and house for only 40 or 50 thousand dollars. I wish for half a million. Someone buy 1 of my works..I can pay my house off for 160 thousand..
Why did you note"Remember to keep comments respectful... why you're not respectful about other artist's who are talented and brilliant painters, not one but doesn't thousand who quietly do their beautiful paintings. You always advertising the some name's and showing theirs works. I'm tired watch this, all the time the some and some. Could you change this attitude and look forward, you have a millions brilliant artist's around you . Get them chance not be a famous, but leave like an artist's
Jean Michel Basquiat "Dustheads" sold for $48.8 million Any physiologist would tell you that his work shows a very troubled man. I ask this question have we put a price on the black mans pain and is it enough.
The 'Hammer Price', US$43.5m, has a buyer's premium added to it to arrive at the final price; the premium depends on where the auction takes place and the magnitude of the price; Christie's buyer's premium, since 30 September 2013, for paintings sold in New York, for a hammer price of $2m+ is 12% (for a painting
jean michel basquiat father was a million air so was spike lees will Smith miles davis an puffy combs all great people's but don't feel bad about the wrong choices he made he had a great shot at life
None of these people would of even spoke to even recognize Basqiat in the 80s. Now they want to own his work after they recognize how masterful he really was. Some of these peices are fakes.
no fakes are sold by the big dealers. unbeknownst to many - most of basquiats work was bought by private collectors back in the 80s. the big galleries didn't like jean's work in the 80s. most of his most famous painting were sold to regular people and are held in private collections.
No . you couldn't. Its conceptual references to American literature and jazz renaissance hes doing right off the top of the dome along with various art styles you couldn't understand
I am an artist in a $50 billion industry and I am dirt poor. I love auction houses Christie’s , Sotheby’s , Phillips and Artsy for learning about art artist and antiquities.. but I can’t help feel that” The extremely Rich wealthy have ruined the art world.. Artist stand against bourgeois elite
You are looking at life in the wrong way, life is what you make it, art shouldn’t be about making a living from it, if people can then it’s a bonus, I make pieces because I enjoy it, I don’t have money but I consider myself rich because I find ways to get good feelings without the money.
As I recall, artists always relied on the patronage of the very wealthy to commission them and allow them to continue in their pursuits, so how have the wealthy ruined the art world?
Whenever you read a comment like "my niece paints" you know you're dealing with an imbecile. No, your niece does not paint like this. Never fails to amaze at how willing people are to expose their stupidity for all to see. You simpleton.
