I've never heard this masterpiece on Harpsichord before ! I always think that this movement the greatest Adagio Haydn has ever written. Especially 4:23, such a magnificent work! It's so exquisite and delicate played with Harpsichord. Thank you Jean Rondeau!

7:22 I really appreciate when the artist actually goes for it and improvises a cadenza here. Interesting interpretation on the harpsichord.

When I first heard this movement I guessed it could sound so beautiful played on a harpsichord (as it would have been totally possible on Haydn's time), and as not finding any recorded rendition, I just had to wonder when would I be a good enough harpsichordist to play this sufficiently well at my professor's harpsichord. And now I just found this video with no less than M. Rondeau playing this one if my favorite Haydn's pieces. I can't thank you enough.

I think there might be a lot of piano purists who will throw their toys out of the cott, but I find piano music on the harpsichord quite pleasing especially when it is well performed like this!
@ThiloAbend

Actually this sonata was composed in a time, where the very instrument for a certain piece was not specified. The harpsichord was still in use, so the composers wrote their keyboard music in a way that is pleasing on both the fortepiano or the harpsichord. So this sonata isn't simply a piano sonata at all.

@@dirkhoekstra727 we also have to say that fortepiano of Haydn’s times has very little in common with the sound of modern piano :) So it’s quite more authentic this way.
