Like a smooth cognac, she just gets better and better, the smoky voice reaches out and touches you in places you forgot...

On this day in 1966 {July 10th} "Don't Touch Me" by Jeannie Seely peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart, for the two weeks it was at #2, the #1 record for both those weeks was "Think of Me" by Buck Owens... "Don't Touch Me" reached #85 on Billboard's Top 100 chart... Between 1966 and 1977 the Titusville, Pennsylvania native had twenty six records on the Hot Country Singles chart, four made the Top 10 with her two biggest hits both peaking at #2, the above "Don't Touch Me" and "Wish I Didn't Have To Miss You" in 1969 ... Besides her two #2 records, her other two Top 10 records were "I Love You More (Than You'll Need)" {#10 in 1967} and "Can I Sleep In Your Arms" {#6 in 1973}... Everybody has their favorites but the first lady of country music for me will always be Jeannie Seely.

This is country music. Jeannie is beautiful in and out, and my goodness, the song! One of the best country songs ever. This song doesn’t have many instruments, so it is pure vocals. That showcases her talent.

Please, don’t say that John, not all young folks hate the original old fashion heartbreaking tear jerking country music. I know many who are my kid’s age that do, I’m 56 and was raised on this stuff. There is nothing like it!

Doesnt matter what age you are, The way Jeannie sings this with so much emotion, it gets you in the core where all hidden "Dont Touch Me Lies" Seems like we have all had one, I know I did and the emotion allplied to this song can trully bring out the feeling resting in the back of your heart......

I loved this song when I was little, and I found it on here. I could listen to these old songs all night, and cry my pillow full of tears for what 'wasn't meant to be'. I have grown up and understand that not all my dreams of who I wanted was RIGHT for me. I did so love HIM but, I know HE was not the right man for me. It doesn't hurt any less. That part of my heart is gone. He has it!!

The arrangement on the hit recording is way cooler than this, sparser, less fancy augmented chords and such. Jeannie and the background singers are lovely.

She just got in from a road trip and was sick with the flu but she rushed from the airport to tape this show. That's why she looks so bad. Most people would have went home instead. That's the difference between true stars of yesterday vs wannabes of today.

@Sallyjane82 Hi Sally. You sound just like me... :) Part of a song I wrote goes like this : "I may never hold you anywhere but in my dreams, And I'll always be sorry that I never could make you mine." (c) by BMI songwriter

Dottie is gone to a better place Now we all loved her and her song's And she was a super Star !!!!!! But I am very sorry to say the lady has been looked over then and even now to some degree !!! She was in a bad time in life when the lord took her So sad that she could not have a true friend to even see that she had away to make the Opry on that fatal night..And every body get's on Family reunion and say how they love each other It is a Joke !!!!!

You know, when us that love true country music respond with a reply, we get the standard hate mail. LOL so be it. Can you picture Taylor Swift singing this song? How about Darius Rucker singing " The Chair"? Or even the so called great Zak Brown singing" Who Do I Know In Dallas". Get my point? I' m sure you do. No disrespect intended to the newbies. They' re singing to the suits tunes. That' s why Toby Keith said , " Fuck Ya' ll" Made his on mark. Stayed true. Bill Anderson, thanks, I love ya.
