yes thats a great description. The tracks were some of the best ive ever heard in a scary movie.Theres a sound that would play whenever something spooky or eerie was happening,i wanna say an echo but it wasnt really an echo but a sound that would repeat it self,i loved that sound.
Agreed, but it's not Jed that decided this, this comes directly from mastermind director Ridley Scott. It's exactly the same thing i would've asked a music composer to do after more than 30+ years. Ridley is a genius. No comment!
This is spine tingling I wasn't mad about Covenant on first viewing, mostly because I was desperate to know more about the engineers, but after a few more viewings I think it's a sci-fi masterpiece.
Highly rewatchable. Ive seen it about 30 times. A great thrill ride and one of my favorites. Gothic fantasy fused with R rated Scifi horror Love it. The "alien covenant" is between david and the xeno. Two different types of aliens. Both equally dangerous in their own way. Smart movie for what it was
I actually think this is the best soundtrack for any Alien film. I know the film was sour for a lot of people ((me included)), but Jed Kerzel makes a wonderful compilation of the old themes we love on top of additions that fit right in. This may not have been a perfect movie, but the soundtrack certainly was.
This track creates perfect tension, while firmly placing you back in the Alien universe. Prometheus and Covenant are hugely under-rated, they're just getting better and better.
what ???? He totally rip off Goldsmith 's first theme !!!! what the fuck did you just say? Only because now they have some vst and synths , it does NOT mean it's better. fuck
1. The Xenomorph's Origin chalks up to an android with parental issues and romantic dysphoria. The xenomorph deserves so much better than that. 2. They scrapped the potential storyline for the Engineers and Shaw. This, of course, was in part due to people bitching about Prometheus. I complained about things regarding Prometheus myself, but none of my complaints dealt with Prometheus' story. I thought it brought a whole new horizon of opportunity to the franchise, especially regarding world-building and mystery. 3. It continued the exhausting idiocy displayed by the characters of Prometheus[some of which were remedied by the final cut vs theatrical release]. There are countless nonsensical, outright ridiculous decisions being made from the Captain following David to the years of pre-planning being scrapped because "oh hey, new planet, we lost captain, let's go". It is nowhere near the brilliant writing of the first Alien film where the characters were at least competent: Ripley refuses to allow the crew back onboard due to contamination, a logical, believable decision. For me personally, there are a LOT of things both Covenant and Prometheus did right respectively. But then there are those few MAJOR things each of them did wrong that just caused the movies to become massive disappointments and left me feeling empty inside leaving the theater as a fan " For Prometheus, my primary gripe was the the inconsistency due to its Hi-Fi vs the retro feeling of the originals, something that Covenant did right! Covenant potentially scraps so much of the lore possibility, which is something that Prometheus did right. Now, there is always the chance that another film could be made that cements that the world-building can still occur, and that origin of the xenomorph isn't something so mundane and transitive[since it was more about David] as with Covenant's explanation. I did enjoy the thematic sense of both movies, but so much of the little yet major things were lacking. And honestly, movies that hinge on their themes nowadays are simply not enough, anyone can write a story with a message in it :x I want more than that.
As much as I love and appreciate Ridley Scott’s historical epics such as Gladiator, Napoleon, and Kingdom of Heaven, he needs to stop shmucking around and bring us all another Alien movie
Too much work to do, even though he produced and supervised the most recent Alien: Romulus, he has more than 20 contracts as a director/producer, studios are literally begging him to do more movies! I don't really know if we will ever get a new Alien movie from him, im just glad he has so much work to do nonetheless considering he's 80+ yo.
As someone who sat in the theatre and saw ALIEN in 1979 and to be honest to this day I still believe it has never been matched, the texas chainsaw in space that looked like 2001..I sat in a packed theatre ,the opening scene with David and Peter Weyland was all you needed to understand Prometheus and the origin story but as Jed Kurzels music began to fill the theatre with the opening credits it sent shivers down my spine, how he mixed the muic of Jerry Goldsmith ith his own was amazing and gave such a sence of dread of not only what was to come but that this was not just any movie..this was an ALIEN movie....on its release so much hate, everyone became a movie critic, honestly shame on them all,not only are we lucky enough to have a new edition in the franchise but with Sir Ridley behind the camera what more could you ask for....brilliant movie, wonderful score, wonderful performances from all the actors and as always with Sir Ridley a stunning looking movie
You described it perfectly. I'm just a noob in Alien but the first time I watched Covenant... in my innermost I felt... anticipation and fear. And the fact they played this theme at the begining and the end of the movie just made it memorable. This sountrack make me feel the space terror: its coldness, emptyness and vastness...
Same though not born early to have seen Alien (1979)in theatres .(so jealous of those who have )I have a huge affinity for these films & spot on with your feelings with goldsmiths original theme coming into the credits with kurzels mix of it for covenant .that emotion & thought was present when seeing it in theatres like man an official alien film tied to the original one with the music was awesome while in the abyss of seats of wonderment.
The prologue / David's first minutes of life with these strings sneaking in right after Weyland's "Bring me this tea, David...Bring me the tea.." literally sent goosebumps down my spine. And is one of many reasons why I believe that "Alien: Covenant" is possibly one of the best Sci-Fi-films ever.
I like this movie very much. Actually one of the best movies I have seen in years. Thought provoking, discussion triggering. This is more than an average movie can ever reach. The music really fits and indeed nice to hear musical quotation from the first Alien.
You can find things you don't like in any movie. It would have been a good thing if we could learn more about the inhabitants of the planet, but this is a different thing. Of course films have time limit... this is why novels are better hahaha
I have been doing an extensive analysis of the different RU-vid reviews on the film and the corresponding RU-vid comments of people who watched Covenant, Prometheus and the other Alien films, and of the reoccurring complaints I have observed is that they wanted to see what you just described. It seemed quite anti-climatic and rushed, that you introduced this whole new dynamic and then neutralize it immediately. It's problematic because they, the writers and or producers, lose the leverage they developed in the previous film, sparking the viewers interest in the Engineers or what we believe to be the engineers.
I understand the value of mystery, but if they wanted to position and frame the films around David, and or the behavior of 'the created', they should have at least showed us some information and or interaction with the inhabitants and if they want, make David commit mass genocide afterwards and leave some of the previous questions unanswered until the next film.
I really liked this film even if I can agree with your opinion that it can seem anti-climatic and rushed. Just came to my mind that the main reason of this maybe that they tried to satisfy a too wide audience. Of course. But in this case the result is a dissapointment for people who only wanted to watch a monster hunting action movie with a female hero. The film makers tried very hard to keep a balance and to include engough scary moment and fight. And with this balance they sacrifice lots of important things. It could have been much longer but in my opinion it is very hard to meet the expectations of thrill-thirsty people if you try to show more and evolve a much deeper story. Anyway this movie had a high-impact on me, but for ex when family members of mine watched it they said it was very boring and they were unable to "be scared" - and that would be the essence of a horror movie according to them.
I got literal chills hearing this in the theater. My girlfriend was grinning ear to ear after the film, she said my face during the opening 20 minutes or so was absolutely priceless.
So, i am sitting in the cinema, a fanatic Alien fan (and Alien: Isolation), then familiar sounds, on the background of deep space, and unintentionally a huge smile on my face as the titles appear - seen an Alien film in the cinema. I found myself unintenionally doing this watching Blade Runner 2049.
Agreed but he should let go Alien and make great standalone movies like the Martian or All the money in the world. He made a good move by letting the masterpiece that is Blade runner 2049 to Villeneuve hands... (sry for bad eng)
J There are some great thought provoking bits in this movie but the rest is just generic slasher/horror. He shouldn't have listened to peoples complaints on Prometheus
Love this movie so much. The soundtrack absolutely complements the ''far out there'' deep space exploration sci-fi vibe of this film. What if in 70 years..
Prometheus had a beautiful exploritory almost seafaring quality to its soundtrack, one of optimism and exploration with an edge of cautious unease, an underrated and beautiful score. Covenants score is creepy, foreboding and reuses motifs and sections of aliens score, it works so well at creating a dark disturbing unsettling horror atmosphere. Truly great scores and so different from each other as were the films. The pre credit music before the david/wayland scene is deeply unsettling and sets the tone for the entire film. Love it!
The best thing about this soundtrack is the light pulsed signal-like tone. It gives strong indication of intelligent life and civilization in the voidness of space, but the tone is intense and disturbing that tells us "something dangerous is out there"
@@LeMecMoustachu i do, but if it's going to be with the same level of plot laziness as this movie then I'd rather imagine it myself. Ever since the second film the Alien franchise has gone downhill. Using lore as movie bait to give this kind of crap isn't excusable, especially if they're going to butcher it.
@@Soul93Taker you should watch the videos of "Kroft talks about movies". He has plenty of theory videos about prometheus and covenant. Personally i love this channel 👍
@@Soul93Takerthey say that the civilisation David destroyed in Covenant actually were the engineers. I don't think it's true though. It would be a disappointing plot.
The echoes of the original are definitely here in this soundtrack. Easily my favorite of the ALIEN scores. I especially loved the use of Jerry Goldsmith's original theme on that trumpet.
I heard this in Prometheus and I flipped out (It's been forever since I've watched Prometheus and I've watched Covenant like sixteen times) and I went on a hunt to find Friend From The Past and this one... I'm satisfied now. It's such a great movie (I think all of them are, if you don't then man, you really are missing out) I grew up watching the original four movies, nothing can beat an Alien movie. Yes, I know that the original soundtrack is incorporated into every movie in some way, but Covenant has stuck with me for the past few years. I honestly get excited when movies in a series use pieces from the origianl.
Due to bad reviews, I've held off on watching this film for so long. I saw it few days ago and I enjoyed it. Great sci-fi horror and the themes of creation are wonderful in a horrifying way. Alien has always been a pretty deep franchise.
I never read reviews. I'm a highly educated, highly opinionated, disagreeable person who refused to watch GoT because everyone was. I went to see this with zero expectations and I loved it. Zero fraks given, to what others say. Just like alien resurrection. Loved it. Seen it more than Aliens. The ending made me sit in silence listening to this music for hours.
When i was 6 or 7 in 2017, My Parents watched Alien Covenant and I even watched that too, The Movie was Terrifying... I hope tgere is a sequel of Alien Covenant because Alien Covenant is the Best Movie I've ever watched🥺
I love this track, the bell sounds make it seem like there fate is sealed, and the oncoming sound makes the vastness of space seem creepy, love it ❤️👍 x
Say what you will about this movie, but you can’t deny that (at the very least) this part of the soundtrack gives a true and misterious Alien vibe, one no other movie’s soundtrack in the entire franchise could
Most of this track relies on Jerry Goldsmith's original main title for 'Alien', but that's okay since I enjoy the modern atmospheric orchestrations added, but I highly recommend for the newbies out there to listen to Jerry Goldsmith's original 'Alien' soundtrack in its entirety. :)
This song reminds us of what lies out there for us in Space. Shit we do not need on our earth. Shit that will kill us. All of us. We must be careful if we want to explore further. We have to be careful. Like the movie Life. We cannot bring anything out there back here.
Brian Carpenter it's an old theme, Pandora's box, the unknown forces we unleashed for our curiosity, like when Kane look at what was inside the alien egg and unleashed the beast.
Brian Carpenter I saw "Life"(2017) and Alien Covenant in the same week and that was exactly the same thoughts that i had. God made us to stay on this earth and we as human race should be really careful when it comes to exploring the space
@@DerHalbeEuro God made us to use our brains lol. Apparently we have trouble using it most of the time. If we were made just to live on earth, then the rest of the universe shouldnt exist lol. Or at least not be beautiful and interesting enough to explore.
