Jeddah Tower : The Engineering Secrets Behind the World's tallest Tower

After 5 years of neglect, the Jeddah Tower project in Saudi Arabia is finally back on track. In this video, I present the Jeddah Tower (Kingdom Tower) project, 5 technical challenges in the construction of a building that must exceed one kilometer in height. We'll also compare the challenges of such a construction with the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest skyscraper, which is very similar in terms of design.
On the menu: how to stabilize such a tower, what materials to use, wind resistance, energy conservation and elevator design.

Marvelous work of engineering. What's the point? Are they running out of space in Jeddah? Ego? Bragging rights? So you have the tallest building in the world. So what? Does that make life better for the average Saudi citizen? Seems really bizarre to call it a 1km Tower when there is a literally empty spire uninhabited the height of the Eiffel tower stuck on the top. My opinion is that the tallest building should be based on the highest point at which people can go (Residents, Office workers, Staff etc)

Back in the 1800s the height of building was determined by the available technology. Then Otis invented safe elevators and buildings got much taller. At the end of your video your said basically that we've reached height limits due to spiralling costs. I'd hazard a guess that these are limits set by current technology. Don't underestimate mankind's ability to overcome obstacles. More efficient designs and technologies will come along to continue our instinctual exploration of what is possible.

@@Ikhouja "In addition there's no such thing as "Muslim Vanity"". I've spent most of my working life living in Muslim countries providing specialist expertise and can't believe you've made that statement. Muslims are the most vain and materialistic people I've ever known and that's good for everyone else because we get to sell you expensive stuff. This tower is 100% a vanity project. Current investment is from the private sector but this won't see it finished and like the Burj Khalifah will always run at a loss. Of course this is just a small part of Saudi's planned future, some of which is laughable, take for example, The Line. It will fail and by that time will have drained public resources and damaged the economy permanently. Saudi nationals lack a work ethic and of course projects like this can only be considered because the labourers are virtual slaves. I will laugh as you waste your money, projects fail and you destroy your economy. No amount of money would tempt me back there having to deal with it's corrupt and unpleasant people.

4:20 For the part where pumps can only push concrete up to 500 meters, why not make a special area that contains another pump at the 500 meter mark to then be able to pump concrete up another 500 meters??? Or you could modify a tower crane to have the pump on the top instead of the crane part. With two such modified crane sections you could have one set at 500m and the next one set at 1000m to give you a pump height of 1500m. Now I don't know what the total capacity of the tower crane box sections are, nor do I know how much the concrete itself would weigh in a pump line going up, but you could anchor the line to the building and only have it curve out to the pump on the tower then curve back to a anchored section on the building again. That would limit the weight on the tower crane...

Of course, alternative methods such as this have already been considered and dismissed over many years of skyscraper projects. There should be 25-50 comments from those with expertise in the subject, so the rest of us can learn. Instead there are 300+ comments worth nothing. But in this Golden Age of BS, every John Q. Public knows they don't know much, but still think they are the equal of the best minds and experts in engineering and construction, who must just sit around on mega projects watching RU-vid all day, scratching their heads, and wondering what they should do next. No wonder people want to make America great again.

All of these mega tall towers that get built are actually just huge ego prizes! Who can outdo the other guy/country! It’s all about pride. Bragging rights. It is. Truly. I know that the Arabs are always trying to prove to the world what they can do. In a way it’s a lack of self confidence that causes them to think this way. I lived in the Middle East. So I know. Plus in Asia too they do this. Especially in China. I lived there too. Saw them always trying to build tall buildings with some having wild designs. Again, it’s about who can outdo the other guy. Country. Then having those bragging rights. Humans!!!

And just waiting for the next countdown to start to publish it. In the mean time though you can see in some detail how the weather works from a charged state of matter perspective in 'Electric Weather Mechanics'. As well as on another page, why the Titanic sank and in the same area as two submarines back in the day. Due to attracting negatively charged earth currents entering the stricken liner. The voltage differential between the negatively charge earth and the positively charged ionosphere rises by about 100 volts per meter up through the atmosphere.

0:17 - 1:25 I don't understand, I would assume before constructing any tall building ( especially one that tall ) there would be a massive amount of calculations and planning. Surely there would have to be a at least a team of engineering/material experts who all independently approved the schematics/plans before they even started digging foundations? The way the narrator reads it almost seems like they started building it and after reaching 500 meters they went "hang on, are we sure this thing isn't going to collapse itself if we keep putting more weight on top?"
@DeedsResearcher
@DeedsResearcher 7 месяцев назад
As construction continues higher, the total weight above each floor grows but is less than the floors beneath it. How is this possible? Simply because the floors start to shrink due to the narrowing down of the upper levels. Thus, the heaviest and strongest structural steel is at the lowest part of the tower, and the lightest is at the top because it has to support less weight than the lower floors.

I think that the economic corridor project from India to Europe is very special, but what is most distinctive and most important is that Saudi Arabia wants to once again be a leader in clean energy, and this will address the problem of global warming in Europe by supplying Europe with all types of clean energy. 5% of Saudi Arabia’s territory can produce solar energy sufficient for all... the world Saudi Arabia wants to build the world's largest project for green nitrogen and produce 11 million barrels of blue ammonia in the Jafoura field, which is rich in laurel fields. As well as the abundant availability of uranium minerals in Saudi Arabia and its plan to manufacture yellow cake to sell in nuclear power plants to produce electricity. I think it is a good opportunity for European countries that want to benefit from the continuity of generating electricity from nuclear power plants, but with the ongoing military coups in Africa, the continuity of the flow of uranium from Africa cannot be trusted, but Europe can be confident of obtaining uranium from Saudi Arabia and politically stable Central Asia. As well as Saudi Arabia’s distinguished location in the production of wind energy, etc. All of this is useful in the future for exporting energy to Europe I believe that it is a dream project for Europe to obtain clean and sustainable energy to address the problem of global warming. I believe that it is an opportunity for Saudi Arabia to be a leadership partner in addressing the problem of global warming and diversifying its energy economies to ensure the sustainability of exporting the energy mix to countries of the world instead of losing oil due to production intensity. The energy production mix is the most realistic solution to address the problem of global warming as well as ensuring the sustainability of energy production. If oil-producing countries move away from investing in the oil industry, we may see an economic collapse in some industrialized countries. Perhaps the world’s biggest challenges are how to benefit from energy with strong, sustainable production that does not affect the environment.
