For the eighth time in nine years, one of the Gramling Locomotive Works' steam locomotives visited the Walkersville Southern Railroad, and this time, fighting broke out on the very first day of their visit!
Being a border state between the North and the South in the Civil War, the state of Maryland saw its share of fighting action. So it seems only natural that fighting broke out once again in the state, this time, however, all in good fun.
The first of three weekends with trips out of Walkersville, MD had Civil War reenactments, featuring a mock battle in the community park just outside of town, and various soldiers hiding and shooting along the line. On one trip, the Union Army rode the train, on another, the Army of Northern Virginia was on board - while the other shot and attacked from below.
In the meantime, the locomotive ran flawlessly, and the trips were definitely a success. Enjoy this look at Jeddo Coal #85: Into The Civil War in Walkersville!
