discovery781, we only have Trump's word that he consulted with anyone and he has been caught in almost 4-5 lies per day since becoming president. The Pentagon had already requested more time to study the issue, so they were actually blindsided by Trump's announcement! Besides, didn't he say he knew more than the generals? If he believes that's true, he wouldn't feel the need to consult them about it.
MrS98VAC, I'm retired AF and I and not gay however, I fully support them. Not for their lifestyle but as a brave brother or sister willing to sacrifice themselves lives to protect others.
Add to that the use of military transportation and Secret Service Personnel everywhere he and his family goes. When I served at Andrews Air Force Base that houses Air Force One and Two, it was estimated that it cost a minimum of $35,000 per trip to get this plane ready. Realize too, that there's a lot of waste. A lot of stuff is discarded each trip because the President can't use a matchbook that is missing 1 match or use a napkin that is wrinkled. Consider the Covid situation and I bet the discarded items are astronomical. By the way, a major news channel verified the expense with regard to using AF 1 (fueling, stocking, cleaning).
I was in the military and this makes me sick!!! If I hear one more person say it is just "Common Sense" I am going to lose it. "Common Sense" is not an adequate or legal measurement for anything, it proves nothing, especially when it comes to human rights. As "common sense" to one person is different to another. I have seen ZERO studies that suggest LGBT servicemen and women have a negative impact on force readiness. With regards to Individual readiness it can be impacted for MANY reasons, (e.g. IVF treatment, cosmetic surgery), that have absolutely nothing to do with conditions obtained during a person's service. Should that negate them from military service? Does that impact force readiness? Does that have a huge financial impact on tax payers? Gender reassignment surgery is a medical procedure just like any other that comes under sexual health and mental well being and as such should be treated with the respect and privacy it deserves. Further, keep in mind these members pay tax as well and in many instances are not allowed to go to doctors privately as the military will not allow it!!!!! I am straight woman and at no time during my service was I made to feel uncomfortable by LGBT members, they were simply my friends and colleagues, who deserved the same treatment and care as all other members. The only time I have seen an impact on force readiness is through bullying. Being bullied is not their fault or should not be made to be their fault. The causes stem from religious beliefs and in extreme cases bigotry. Also, fear of things another doesn't understand or another's sex or sexuality when it doesn't reconcile with theirs. Just because you do not understand something, that doesn't give you the right to judge someone and in act policies that will hurt members who do not deserve it. This isn't Trump (he is just a disgusting mouth piece) and nothing more then a coward!!!! This policy change is coming from your Vice President and his merry band of religious bigots. I am Australian and I am ashamed of the current leadership of your country.

Don't agree with the president's position; but, as an aside, why do so many young and healthy men need so much Viagra for? Are some using it as an aphrodisiac instead of for it's medical and age-related purposes?
The Military should not be for anyone to bring their social issues into discussion, if a person is willing to serve & fight for this country it should not matter what their gender is. But i will say this i do feel while a person who is in the USA military should not be forcing private social issues that can become a distraction from protecting the country which they signed up to do. You have ppl that don't want to be identified by a specific gender on job's & that can lead to someone else being fired if they make the mistake of calling that person he or she! Somethings has gone to fair in my opinion.
You want to cut costs? Keep AF 1 GROUNDED on Friday nights. 60 million plus so far THIS year for Trump's trips to Mar Lago. Compare that to 8.5 million spent on trans medical costs YEARLY spent by military. Give me a f.....g break. We need to leave these brave people alone.
I'm a Vet and totally agree with Trump! His Ban was justified by Active Duty Members (Generals, Senior Enlisted, ETC...) Lines have to be drawn. We have been fighting battles in the Marine Corps for 2 1/2 Centuries and you cant just change the readiness of our military because someone wants to be politically correct now on this issue!
So the military will be a place where ppl go for cosmetic surgery, lol. Education incentives is different than someone who want to change, change outside of military and than come back.

Nancy Godsey the president is doing a good job and we should appreciate that. Banning transgender from military service it's okay, it's just a way to show some respect to our military service members just like other countries do
