In this video, we're comparing two notable Star Wars sequels: Jedi Survivor and The Force Unleashed 2, to see what makes a good and bad Star Wars sequel game.
To me that's the best part. Really liked the first game but I just wanted the sequel to be over. Really disliked both the gameplay and story unfortunately.
Not only short but lacking content and extremely repetitive ( which is jarring for a 4 hour game) which felt like a rushed product and a scam for the consumer. ( and yes it was). It's more like an expansion pack than a real sequel. Despite that the base gameplay was very fun'to me. But yeah what a waste...
The main problems i had with TFU2 is that it felt more like a demo then the fall game. I remember getting it the day it came out and got to Death Vader thinking how is Starkiller going to escape and why are we fighting Vader this early in the game........somehow it was already the last boss. Traded the game back the same day.
There's also the price tag to life span ratio to take into consideration. The force unleashed 2 was marketed as a full game, with the length of a DLC Jedi survivor, despite its technical flaws upon release, was marketed as a full game and WAS a full game, longer even than its predecessor. That may not have anything to do with a good "sequel" but it impacts generally what one might consider a good "game"
Other examples of great Star Wars sequels include battlefront 2 2005 and KOTOR 2 imo. Both added to and enhanced their previous iterations, though KOTOR 2 was hampered by rushed timeline and having to cut out a lot, but it’s superb w restored content mod imo
@@Subzerobyrdagreed after playing it it became my favorite game ever. KOTOR is also great but I prefer KOTOR 2. The restored content mod just enhances things imo
@@Nerdstorm003agreed the writing characters ambiance dialogue story and music are all brilliant imo. I think the restored content mod makes it even better tho
Force Unleashed 2 is still an example of a game having a short rushed development cycle, which then drastically affects the final products length and quality. Regardless, I really do wish we could continue the story of Starkiller.
I wanted to see a conclusion, but after I heard they considered incorporated into Filoni's fan fiction, I definitely think starkiller's narrative is best left untainted by the Disney/Fioloni era.
Filoni’s “fan fiction”, whatever he does is canon rather you like it or not. It’s funny when I see comments like that, then people say what they would do if they worked for Star Wars… and it ends up being the worse things I’ve ever heard come to mind lol.
Could be one of the more powerful Inquisitors (First Brother, idk), and eventually progress beyond that and become a full-fledged apprentice of Vader, as a justification for being a constant and ever-increasing threat to Cal.
A lot of the force combos from FU1 were also absent in FU2 … so gameplay got repetitive because I wasn’t forcing myself to memorize different combos and trying them as I killed hordes of enemies
I think there should have been just one TFU game. A sort of mix of both with their best qualities. The Graphics of 2, a mix of the two for the gameplay, the scenario of 1 with elements of 2, etc...
Well, TFO2 has all these weird plot-elements not for the obviousness... Galen "Starkiller" Marek didn't found the alliance, he laid out the basics (as a ruse for the Empire) and saw it wiped at the end of TFO1. It was truly founded after his death by his friends and allies in his name with the crest of his family. He had no idea they survived all that and continued, especially given that he as a clone was created after all that. Rahm Kota wasn't a slave on Cato Nemoidia for fun, he got captured and in typical Jedi fashion decided to sit it out until an opportinuty arose that he deemed Force-sent enough to be the reason behind his capture. HE didn't go to Juno right away because the galaxy is vast and he had no lead on her, her being an elusive rebel.
What game have you been playing? In Force Unleashed, every enemy stronger than a Stormtrooper tanks lightsaber attacks and the only damage the player sees is the occasional decapitation or limb dismemberment. At least Jedi Survivor fixed the absence of the latter while retaining burn marks.
@@jlev1028 the burn marks are a nice touch but a lightsaber is supposed to take off limbs. I'm not saying the to Force unleashed is perfect cuz even the Jedi Knight games had some burn marks but I'd much rather take an arm flying across the screen or a decapitation over hitting a stormtrooper and he just has a little brown mark on his face. I can forgive tougher enemies in the Force Unleashed and jedi survivor being more durable if not just for the sake of the challenge but even you have to admit that a base-level enemy like a stormtrooper Should Fall to Pieces if hit by a lightsaber. Disney in General has really weakened the lightsaber to the point where it's kind of a joke.
@@thesithsaiyan4864 that is true but I was referring to the second game since that what the videos about I should have specified that, my bad. But even Force Unleashed 2 wasn't the first game to feature dismemberment hell Revenge of the Sith and the Jedi Knight games did as well.
I love general kota. I wish they did something with him. He’s a man that had known nothing but war constantly. The force unleashed has a goofy story but kota has to be one of my favorite take aways from it. I could totally see a rahm kota post dark empire trying to come to terms with his position in life. Whether he wants to keep fighting or if he’s ready to finally retire
Survivor was definitely the better of the two. I felt like TFU2 was lacking in a lot of places, and the way they had you ATTEMPT to unlock secondary lightsaber colors was outrageous. Survivor had slow moments, but I still enjoyed it from start to finish.
@@thatguyfromA6915 Noone really HATES on it. It was just a underwhelming sequel. Which it objectively was. It was way shorter than the first game, and like Flandrew said, a good sequel builds on what was good and fixes what wasn't. Force Unleashed 2 didn't do either. It's not a bad game or anything but there's just no reason to buy or play Force Unleashed 2 if you have the first part, because it simply doesn't do anything better than the first part. And not every criticism is "hate". Not every opinion you disagree with is "hate". Sometimes people just point out that a game wasn't as good as it could have been because it simply wasn't.
@@EskChan19 not to to make fun of you but you got so upset at me saying that the game gets alot of hate which is still true alot of people hate this game no matter what way you put it if you dont like something it means you in a way hate it no matter what way it is
jedi survivor no even a question. it just did everything right a sequel should have done respawn did it justice. I am also surprised you didnt talk about the disney issue that also happened at that time
I really thought Jedi Fallen Order was a much better story than Survivor was, but the gameplay was better once I got used to the combat timing being different from the first game.
It's incredible how beautiful Force Unleashed 2 looks. Considering it was Lucasarts' final game before they were annihilated, and it had a shoestring development length, it pays lots of attention to visual detail, looking incredible on the xbox 360! Jedi Survivor doesn't do art style nearly as well, having all the resources in the world but somehow looking far less realistic.
my name is in the video, i can get through another week my main gripe about TFUII is that it was incredibly short compared to the first one and felt like there was less to do on each level compared to the first one
Problem with all Star Wars stuff trying to fit between Sith and New Hope is there are only abkut 20 years to squeeze things into. I mean, as a casual star wars fan, 20 years is not a long time for a GALACTIC sized empire to really have a lot of effects never mind have a lot of complex rebellion stuff make organic sense
I love force unleashed 2. Sure it is short and has problems but it is a step up from the first one and if it had been given the attention, it would have made a great game
@@thatguyfromA6915 In terms of Gameplay ( even if some elements are repetitive) and Graphics perhaps, but the story is frustrating anyway, compared to the first.
@@tibsky1396even gameplay tbh was better in 1. There were more trooper types which meant the game was more fun and challenging. And you had more control over your abilities while 2 makes them all really overpowered at the cost of how well they played. For example, force grip in 1 let you choose if you lift 1 or more enemies. In 2, if you upgraded it, you'll always grip more than 1 enemy if possible.
I wish Star Wars Force Unleashed could come back with new game mechanics and more open word like gameplay where we could emerge more into different combos powers and more free action towards our progress which might effect the game in different ways and more hidden ester eggs and plot twist added to make a great game.
TFU2 is an absolute trash game. Can't combo enemies(They have force block, teleport, resistance to your attacks or basic stormies just dies in 1 or 2 swings), force powers not accurete as first game(In first game you can throw someting blindly and you can hit something but in sequel i can't throw something to enemy 2 feet away from me), final boss was disappointment and challenge missons were hard as hell(I bet even creator of those challenges would have hard time). Yes also it is little short just like as everyone saying but I think story is not that bad but gameplay, It is too bad. Whole game is like swinging bats to stones. It had potential to surpass first game but TFU 1 is better in everyway. Honestly didn't play jedi survivor but no way i am going to say TFU2 is better or good game.
I have the 1st Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. I Had it for PSP & I loved how you can duel & I liked how you can cheat code. But the Force Unleashed for Switch took that out
The reason for this is because the Switch is a re-release of the Wii version, which was the same as the PlayStation 2 only with an added multiplayer duel mode. The PSP is a crunched down port of the Wii/PS2 version with a *lot* more content.
I miss my PSP I had Batman Forever on it ... I had all these games... but like everything's gone now. I was stupid & updated my PSP to play a disk... so I lost the capability to download & play from the download's @@ahums16
The gameplay in TFU 2 was a HUGE downgrade from TFU 1. See an enemy wielding lightsabers? Gotta kill them using Force powers and only Force powers. See a red Sith acolyte that can use Force powers and has no lightsabers? You gotta get in there and cut him up because he will deflect every single force power you throw at him. The amount of rock paper scissors BS you had to do in that game was so immersion breaking, and it pissed me off. In TFU 1 you could kill just about anything in any sort of creative way imaginable. Sure certain enemies might be resistant to a particular attack, but you could still find a dozen other ways to kill them. It felt kind of like a Prototype game toned down a bit and thrown into the Star Wars universe, and it was awesome. TFU 2 was nothing like that.
Shortness aside, I had fun with Force Unleashed 2, which something I can say I did not have Survivor due to the combat system, level design and narrative. Like all Disney era star wars, its all so soulless and overly dramatic
We need another KOTOR like Star Wars game. One that takes places far away from the timeline we're all kind of sick of. I don't care if we go far into the past or future, just get away from the Fall of the Republic/Empire.
Unironically I prefer The Force Unleashed 2 to Jedi Survivor. Jedi Survivor is very boring for me, which is weird, because I liked Fallen Order. Maybe "Souls" copy games are just becoming stale.
He never said that Force Unleashed 2 is bad, he said it's a bad SEQUEL. Which it is. It's a fine game if you play it standing on it's own, but if you consider it the second part of the force unleashed, what does it bring to the table that the first game didn't? When you rate a sequel the question is always, why would you play the sequel over the original? What does it do better than the original? If you were only allowed one of these two games for the rest of your life, would you chose the second one over the first one? If the second part is better than the first one, it's a good sequel, otherwise it's a bad sequel. And there's simply no reason to play Force Unleashed 2 if you already have Force Unleashed 1
Imho. For me Survivor completly ruined by it's forced limitations that devs implemented (like having 5 styles but you can have only 2?!?!), not allow for free aim shooting (Kyle Katarn saying Hello from 2003), stupid decisions like make Force Speed as ultimate ability, mediocre storytelling with not interested characters (except Cal and Merin Romance since I wanted it on the first game), connection to High Republic that I don't care (If believe to infographs a lot of people don't care about it too) and badly stolen things from Sekiro and Zelda that doesn't work in SW Universe and making Cal more stupid and powerless Jedi ever. I think that combinations of idea from previous SW games and more freedom for Cal of using everything (or just not to be a copy of Sekiro) would help improve game.
I can't say to much given I haven't been able to play Jedi Survivor but I can safely say that I'm a huge star wars fan and I love the Force Unleashed games and Jedi Fallen Order and they were awesome, my opinion at least.
No matter how short and bland TFU2 is, it will always be a better sequel to me. Not only did they improve the combat system in every imaginable way, it actually runs properly at 60fps on pc. A game you can actually play is an infinitely better game in my opinion. Of course I'd rather just play Fallen Order than either of TFU games.
Wait, is Jedi Survivor well liked? I thought it wasn't considered all that good? I mean, obviously not BAD, and obviously better than Force Unleashed 2, but nothing special.
I loved jedi survivor. Thought the story was great (insert Flandrew buuuut here) my issue with Bo's motivation at the very end made little sense. He basically wanted to kill Cal to take Talinor for himself and his daughter alone to be safe from the empire. But Cal also wanted to be safe from the empire, ok they might have had different ideas on how to do that but Bo basically died over very little difference between the 2 approaches. Also the kid really did not seem bothered her dad was dead in the post game when jetting across the galaxy. That was my only issue with the story for that one, otherwise it was really good.
@BRC1298 yeah I got that. I just didn't think think that was worth potentially dying for, or murdering people infront of his kid. Anyway it not a huge plot hole or anything just something that bugged me.
@billycurrythe2nd From Bodes POV, His daughter is literally being held as collateral by the ISB and the ISB know pretty much everywhere he would try to go in the Galaxy. Plus the head of the ISB knew Bode was a Jedi. Once his usefulness was used up and he was outed as an Ex-Jedi, he was as good as dead, and who knows what Vader would do with his Force Sensitive daughter? He needed a way out and he needed it fast. Its pretty much the only reason he sidetracks his original mission of infiltrating Cal's team. From his perspective, once Cal switched from leaving the Galaxy to training a force to fight the empire, thereby ruining the only safe hiding place from the empire, he did what he felt was the only thing he could do to protect his daughter. You know raising a force of that magnitude would cause a massive disturbance in the force and Sidious and Vader will definitely sense it and seek it out, and Bode probably figures this. He's still a dick though.
TFU 2 was amusing but quick and half-assed. Survivor was well-made, well-written, fun, and impactful. They've both got their merits, but Survivor is better by every metric.
Yeah, the Jedi games are so much better than the Force Unleashed games. But I LOVED playing the Force Unleashed 2 on the Wii. It was so fun pretending the controller was a lightsaber
I really dislike the mixing of styles in Jedi games. It's the same with the modern God of War games. Just doesn't do anything for me and I cannot get hooked. They're not bad just not for me FU2 however I loved the power trip as a kid and the costumes and customization. Nothing gets me hooked like good costumes
>that thumbnail Say, Flandrew? *Which of your internal organs would you say is your favorite?* I kid, I kid, but actually now that I mention it? Who would you think would win in a fight - Kyle Katarn, or Starkiller (Galen Marek)?
Obviously Starkiller. Kyle Katarn is a way better character, since Starkiller is pretty much just a 14 year olds edgy power-fantasy self-insert. He's basically like Rey, except his game wasn't terrible. Well the story was about as bad but at least the game played well. But yeah Kyle Katarn is from a grounded, traditional Shooter, while Galen Marek is from a hack and slash game. Galen Marek is SUPPOSED an unstoppable Mary Sue who cannot lose. So there's simply no debate here. That's like asking "Who would win in a fight Episode 6 Luke or Episode 1 Anakin?"
The biggest disappointment is that the Jedi series is Canon, but hasn't been used at all by Disney other than ripping off beats in Obi-Wan. And TFU isn't Canon despite actually having input from George Lucas, and we could have used Starkiller to kill off all the terrible Dave Filoni characters.
the answer is easy: both of these suck & cant compare to Jedi Outcast -> STILL no jedi game has come close to it... (not counting Academy, as I just count them as one)
Not that I'm hating it, but I find Jedi Survivor to be quite high on the spectrum of tedium. The first one was full of it too, but I found it to be a bit tighter in overall progress. By contrast the sequel appears to have just doubled down on the parts of the first game that seemed only there to pad out the story. Just getting around is a little annoying. Force Unleashed 2 I never really got into. The first game was heaps of fun, but for whatever reason I just didn't get around to playing the sequel. Seems like it would be a less annoying sequel at the very least 😅
I don't think anyone's arguing the survivor is worse than force unleashed 2. That said, kal never pulled a star destroyer out of orbit with force powers alone. Star killers top dog and it's a shame dark side starkiller clones diddnt show up in the fallen order games, could have made them like the dehaka in prince of Persia 2, can't fight him just have to rapid parkour away
