Part 1: I swap from electric back to mechanical to double check my readings on the electric and then back again to original. A little trouble shooting and talking about the sending unit. Important to match up the ohms between the sending unit and gauge if you are staying original (electric). Overall, switching them around is pretty easy to do.

Great video and information. I have a '86 CJ7 with exactly the same issue with my oil pressure gauge. The previous owner (I'm the 2nd) said the gauge hadn't worked for several years but hadn't tried to fix the problem. Your video will be a big help when I tackle this fix. There's always something to work on with these CJs. Cheers.

Hope it helps and that you can get it working. Feel like it probably doesn't take much to push one of these 40 year old gauges into unreparable.

Do they sell new gauges...that look like the old ones for replacement?

Yes, Omix makes one that looks reasonably close to original. A lot really like SpeedHut but they are expensive - and dont look original - depending on what your objectives are. I wanted to stick to original and actually just last night think I found a short in my signal wire which may be causing some of the issues - need to replace and see.

the pressure should go up when you give it fuel the way you did.

Yeah, there is something not quite right about it. Doesn't react to the engine but feel better that I tested it with a mechanical. Kind of viewing it as a oil pressure good vs bad rather than a helpful range. I might replace at some point.
