I have a 78 cj 7 I’ve dreamed of going to Moab, two weeks ago I took my wife’s stock Lexus lx 470 and my sons to Moab. Had a electric failure right at the parking lot before we went up, wife told me not to go…. She had to work. No driver aids were working, not even the A track poor man locker… The land cruiser Did great even with open diffs 9” wide tires and 31s. Still dream of taking my jeep.

Moab is beautiful! I definitely want to get back there. But too long of a drive in the CJ. Don’t think I’ll do that again. Next time will be in the Rubicon. Thanks for watching!

You drove that from LA to Moab and back?? You've got some serious endurance!

I think stupid might be a better description! At the end of each day I was exhausted. It drove so bad on the highway then. It drives a lot better now with less bump steer, but I still wouldn’t do it again.

Very nice to see a classic Jeep on a long distance trip and wheelin Moab!

Thanks! I can’t lie, the drive there and back was brutal, but my wife and I often laugh about it. It was a really memorable trip and Moab is one of the most beautiful places i’ve ever seen. Hope to go back this Spring. Thanks for watching!

tc’s adventures I can relate! I once did a 3000km trip from Austria to France and Spain in my 89 YJ. If you love your Jeep, you don‘t feel the pain💪

Now that’s a drive! Sounds like an amazing trip. Do you live in Europe? I have another video on that CJ where I do a walk around. We’ll be leaving soon to drive my Rubicon across the country and we’ll be camping at national parks!

Awe, that is a beautiful rig! I'm struggling a bit with an 84 CJ-7 restoration myself, so it's always good to get a reminder of why I love these things. I'm also lucky to live just 4 hours from Moab, so having a well setup Jeep is definitely an asset. My older CJ-5 was no slouch on the slickrock, but I've always wished it was a CJ-7. I've got some of the troubles from my restore project up here on my own channel, so take a look if you'd like. If nothing else, you'll have a new appreciation for how fine yours is.

Wow, I checked out your videos and you have your work cut out for you! Bent frame and a Bondo Baby (that’s what I called my first truck). Have you watched the walk around of my CJ7? I did a fuel injection too. I didn’t think there was another guy out there that liked Jeeps and boats lol!

Awesome video love your CJ. Don’t see them as often especially off road. I got a 84 CJ-7 as a graduation gift last year. Finished rebuilding the engine can’t wait to wheel it.

I’m impressed you did a rebuild! Most kids graduating from high school couldn’t change a tire lol! If you don’t belong to a Jeep club I would recommend it. It’s more fun off roading and a lot safer.

This may not be your ideal footage but I'm glad you decided to share it, I enjoyed watching this. Off roading footage is rarely perfect anyway :) I love the old CJ, although I totally understand that long drive in it may have been tough at times haha. Crazy about the dinosaur prints. The long trail you did looked really nice and relaxing.

Some of those pans with the iphone were so shaky it was painful to use. Lol! I think we had iphone 5s then. The new iphones would have shot great video. When you get your Jeep that's the place to go!

Chicken corners Is amazing! We had a rental Jeep lose a tire on it and it rolled all the way down off the edge.

Wow! The tire rolled off the edge - not the Jeep, right? Wouldn’t want to rent from that place!

Cool video! What engine is in your CJ7 and how is the fuel injection holding up? I’m looking at swapping mine in my 79 CJ5 and am interested in how folks like it. Thanks!
@tcsadventures
@tcsadventures 3 года назад
It has a 258 6 cylinder. The fuel injection is doing great. I’ve had no problems with it (knock on wood!). After 30+ years of carb problems - it’s a huge improvement. I don’t drive it enough and the gas always gunked up the carb. Rough idle and rebuilds. It idles and starts great now! Brake booster was the other huge improvement. Hopefully I’ll get the steering/suspension squared away this Spring so we feel more comfortable on longer trips (bad bump steer and too stiff). So we’re mainly off roading in the Rubicon. Thanks for watching and I hope you find some of my other videos you enjoy!

what gears and tire size and axles are you running - thanks
@tcsadventures
@tcsadventures 3 года назад
The tires are 33” x 10.5 x 15. They are the stock wheels. I have a Detroit locker on the front and a Detroit Truetrac limited slip differential in the rear. I don’t remember the gear ratio and I’m away so I can’t get that info now. I have a walk around video of the CJ7 on my channel that gives more info, if you haven’t watched it already. Thanks for watching!

Hi tc, like your CJ7 I’ve got a CJ5 and have a question. You have a true track in the rear like I do why didn’t you go that in the front I was planning to do that to my own. Any thoughts would appreciated.
@tcsadventures
@tcsadventures 3 года назад
@@gregchiropolos9885 I think you want at least one locker and not just limited slip. It just gives you a lot better off road capabilities. Many clubs require members to have at least one locker for some runs. If you’re just going to have one locker - there is a lot of debate as to whether it should be the front or rear. I have a Rubicon and it has front and rear lockers and it makes a big difference. My mechanic thought the front was best for my CJ7. It can make steering challenging. Below is a link with some pretty good discussion. Thanks for watching! www.jeepforum.com/forum/f8/if-only-one-locker-front-rear-what-kind-758116/

which lift kit did you end up going with?
@tcsadventures
@tcsadventures 3 года назад
It's a Rough Country lift. The leaf springs are too stiff. It doesn't articulate over the terrain. It just bounds over everything. This winter I'll try to improve it. Thanks for watching!

tc’s adventures thanks! I was considering the RC. Think I might just bite the bullet and get the rubicon express 4.5”

Don’t know if you seen the walk around video of my Rubicon, but it has an AEV lift and they make quality lifts.

Softest springs I have heard about are the Old Man Emu YJ springs.
