Outstanding work, man. I live in Peoria, AZ and own a 98 ZJ i6 4x4. There's much work I need to do, and alot of money I need to save 😂 so for now I'm in the researching stages of figuring out what I want. I want something unique, yet practical both on and off road. Looking forward to the next video! 🇺🇸

I used the same stuff on my freinds zj. I noticed alot of runs in your painting. Key to point out if any one else wants to use bed liner is to keep it farther away and build it with light coats. Don't let it run heavy and let it dry 5 minutes between coats.

That's true. I forgot to mention that at the end. Most of the runs were on the mirrors and front bumper where I first started. Overall it was a simple and cheap process and looks pretty nice.

Also, to make it look better still, go ahead and do all of the body panels from that top line of the trim panels down. It really ties everything together.

How are your engine and transmission mounts holding up? I'd like to see a video replacing those mounts on the 5.2L engine. I have a 95 ZJ that I bought last year from a little old lady who only put about 95k miles on it. Brakes and water pump needed replacement. Motor mounts are next. In the process of assembling tools needed to get this job done. Not a lot of clearance to access the nuts and bolts that hold the mounts to the block so you need an assortment of tools. Great video series! Enjoyed watching your progress.

There wasn't much over spray, so not sure what you mean. The front and rear bumpers are eventually coming off anyways so only the side panels are long-term.

@azoffroad_net
@azoffroad_net 7 лет назад
I'm hoping to replace the bumpers in the next few months which should eliminate the factory hitch.
@JeepITguy
@JeepITguy 7 лет назад
Given that these vehicles have an issue with the fuel tank being too low at the back of the vehicle and subject to exploding in a rear-ending, I kept the hitch on mine and built a armored enclosure aka skidplate under the tank and on the sides. It doesn't weigh much and doesn't cost any clearance- it also protects the plastic gas tank from rocks. I'd recommend everyone with a ZJ that is going to see trails do this.
@azoffroad_net
@azoffroad_net 7 лет назад
That's true. I forgot about the factory recall regarding the gas tanks. I'll likely leave it then.
@duanealbers7175

I own a 1994 zj. Had the recall done for now.. Still don't feel comfortable. Actuall been thinking about a skid plate for the tank. I like your mod.. Eventuall do the 30 gallon mod also.. I am just getting going on this Jeep so it might be awhile. Thanks for you utube channel. Lots of great info...
@azoffroad_net
@azoffroad_net 7 лет назад
Thanks for watching Duane. I too would eventually like to get a dedicated skid plate for the tank. I think the combination of tank skid and trailer hitch + bumper would be enough to prevent any serious issues on the road or trail.

Where did you get the spacers and what size do they need to be? I got the tj bezel and will be installing soon but i dont want to make home made spacers out of bent tin or cut out my entire fuel filler area like alot of other people have done. Yours looks the best out of all the ones i have seen online.
@JeepITguy
@JeepITguy 7 лет назад
What happened to bolting the fuel bezel to the body? You aren't done with that part by a long shot!
@azoffroad_net
@azoffroad_net 7 лет назад
JeepITguy The bezel is already mounted to the Jeep via the filler neck. Adding bolts to the outside of the bezel itself is unnecessary and would only leave extra holes in the body if I ever change things back. I could add bolt heads for show but that's all it would be for.
@JeepITguy
@JeepITguy 7 лет назад
Disagree, having done this mod myself. You drilled a gaping hole in the roof to pass a cable through, not seeing much point in not fastening this bezel down.
@azoffroad_net
@azoffroad_net 7 лет назад
The hole for the antenna serves a functional purpose. I just don't see how adding a few bolts will change anything about the bezel other than the look of it. It's low on the priority list in my book.
@brandonschnars5280
@brandonschnars5280 3 года назад
I feel like you guys are leaving out the more important details on the Tj bezel. Like the size of the spacers, if you cut or filed any part of the filler neck to accommodate the notch, and how you managed to get it against the body completely level. I have all of the EXACT parts used in this video, on a 94 zj, my spacers are the same size, I filed a notch in for that part of the cap area, and yet when I space it on top, it doesnt sit flush on the bottom AT ALL and the locking gas cap doesn't properly sit on it at all. What aren't you telling about your install?

My 98 cent a can walmart spray paint looks better. Did you wet sand the plastic before you painted it? It may start to peel off.
@azoffroad_net
@azoffroad_net 7 лет назад
I gave it a quick rinse and light sand before painting. It's been through dust, mud, rain, and several washes and so far it isn't showing any signs that it will peel. The thing about the bed-liner is that it is thicker and more protective than normal spray paint.
@JeepITguy

Wet sanding is for AFTER a paint is applied, and it's not needed for bedliner. Now, sanding BEFORE application, definitely agree.

You actually don't want the antenna isolated from ground. The outer jacket should go to ground- it's called a counterpoise, and is every bit as much a part of an antenna system as the stick pointing up, aka the mast. (I'm a HAM, and work with radio quite a bit in professional and hobby life).
@JeepITguy
@JeepITguy 7 лет назад
I do want to point out, however, that I do like your build quite a bit. Personally, there are a few things I'd have done different, but not many. That's what life is about, however. If I'm running cables from the passenger area to outside, I usually just use a weathertight cord grip or bushing. Much easier, more "professional" looking, and easier to add more wires if need be.
