it’s painful to watch the 4runner struggling because of the ignorance of the owner, that 4runner not only has rear lockers but a-trac, mts and crawl control, and you just don’t install side steps when you plan to rock crawl

If I could influence any new off-roader on just one thing, that would be to wheel it stock for a while. Maybe not as long as I do, but they are building these so good nowadays that they’ll impress you for sure. Wipeout hill is a fun one… my buddy and I filmed it, but we’re covering it from a different route perspective. It’s such a fun trail, but Zach nearly gave me a heart attack in an open diff lightly lifted XJ. Fun times! Fun to see you guys tackle it!

Awesome to finally see a 4Runner out with you! I'm not going to hate on the driver for not having a lot of experience, completely understandable. I would advise most people though, before spending thousands in mods and venturing off-road, familiarize yourself with your vehicle's basic mechanical functions. I have a similar 4Runner, and I could have told you just by looking at it that it has a rear locking diff. Rule of thumb is, any Toyota 4Runner from 2010 to 2021 that has a hood scoop is a model with a locking rear diff. They also have crawl control, multi-terrain select, and a ATRAC. The locker, and even just ATRAC itself, would have helped on that last climb. I also strongly suggest getting rid of the side steps and replacing them with rock sliders.
@ProdigalOverland
@ProdigalOverland 3 года назад
They knew they had ATRAC but that didn’t seem to do much. And I think they are looking into different slides. Great folks we had a blast with them!

@@ProdigalOverland I haven't had much opportunity to play around with my ATRAC, so I don't know how effective it actually is, haha. I've seen some videos from other 4Runner owners where it looks pretty impressive, others not so much. The few times I have tried it though, it definitely helped over having both diffs open. Either way, good for them for getting out and having fun with their 4Runner! I'm actually going out on a run in Vermont with mine in a few weeks, it'll be its first such run. Looking forward to hopefully testing out its capabilities!

You're fearless in that thing with limited articulation. I pondered WK2 vs. JLU and bought a JLU just for a little more articulation and ground clearance. With good articulation you can do without lockers for most situations. I'm looking forward to your Elephant Hill video. I did that one in March and felt like I needed all of the ground clearance and articulation I had. Even at that I had one spot with one front wheel off the ground.

That might have been the worst spotter I've ever seen. Having a cherokee trailhawk, even though your driver's side tire was up in the air like that you were fine, and stable. All he needed to do was take you more driver and turn passenger at the top. If I ever had a spotter freak like that I'd tell him to give the radio to someone else . The fact that you had to self spot to him was not fair and not safe. Props to you for keeping it together
@McKayPhotographyAcademy
@McKayPhotographyAcademy 2 года назад
Well, what you don't know , and you can't see is how steep it is in the video, is that he started to bounce backwards . It was a lot more unsettling than you may think and it was about a 36degree climb. They could have roll over backwards had he bounced more. Yeah I didn't want to see him roll over backwards as has happened in that exact spot before with experienced spotters on the Jeep Easter Safari. So,,, without being there... and knowing what took place... yeah... it was tough. And... FYI... there was no one else to give the walkie to with more experience. Brad knew that going for it to begin with. Bottom line.. I'm learning too and guiding a Trailhawk is a whole lot different than a Rubicon

I know when we got into this space it was intimidating to me because so many of groups and forums were full with “experts “ it was easy to feel dumb as a noob. We have set up our business to specifically focus on folks that are brand new to this space. Where they can learn a ton about driving off road and their rigs without the judgement which often prevails in this area. I think it’s important to remember that we were all clueless at one time. And that finding safe places to learn should be lifted up.
