Not only saved me $500 at the dealership to replace a broken cylinder lock, but also the time saved by only needing to remove the column cover to access the release pin for the ignition cylinder lock since I knew exactly where it was thanks to you.
This is the most uniquely valuable video I've ever come across on RU-vid. Despite these being pretty common vehicles, this is the only source I've found that actually describes how to remove the lock cylinder; nothing else is even close. No matter how many positive comments you get, they won't do you justice. Without this video I would never have discovered the way to remove my worn-out cylinder - you saved me an expensive trip to the dealer. The only tips I will add are that I needed to dismount the multifunction wiper switch first, and that an endoscope was useful to see down into the hole to get at the spring loaded button. Thanks so much for the video.
Thanks bro! I work for Chrysler and our service info is very wrong and we was about to remove the entire assembly! Saved us and the customer a ton of time!
Hell yeah thanks bro. It helps out a lot. I have the same assembly on a 2008 patriot and I was trying to figure out how to remove the key lock cylinder. Was difficult. I had no idea even looking up the service manual. Doesn’t say. So this helped me out a lot. THANK YOU THANK YOU. You are awesome
@@loganriley8225 in the end I couldn’t get it out properly for some reason. Not with it on the column. I ended up accidentally breaking the release pin somehow. So I guess in the next me it came out anyway. Ordered new one overnighted keyed it up and going to put it in Sunday. I don’t know WHY they made this one so difficult to do. All I do is car keys and ignitions. And I have had some hard ones but this one takes the cake for sure.
Much appreciated - just managed to use the 90 degree version of that lock pick you showed (thanks Harbor Freight) to remove mine w/the assembly in place - not easy but would have been completely impossible without you showing the location of that release pin - big help!
Thank you so much for this video. I do have a question, what if my cylinder lock refuses to click in the ACC position? I need to change out because of this reason but seems as though unable to get to pin without putting it in ACC position. Is this right?
@@loganriley8225 I have the same issue with my 2000 Quadra-drive WJ... The key wont turn at all! I knew it was failing, and my dumb ass didn't fix it before it completely locked on me. So.... Key wont turn into the ACC position; all it does is rock back and forth ever so slightly whilst trying to engage. My key has a chip in it as well... Do you have any recommendations on the first issue I've addressed? As well as how to link the new ignition to work with the chipped key, without having to take it in to a shop?
Hi, Thank you for the video, while I was replacing the Ignition Switch part number 4685719AI I broke the metal pin, I put everything together without the broken piece, but I have no problem with the starting the car, I am intending to order the Ignition Switch actuator, it says Ignition Cylinder Housing 68054818AC. Does it come with the actuator inside? what was your experience?
Thanks for the video, did you manage to open it up futher? as I can't find a replacement part for it, I'm wondering if it's the same as aTJs lock mechanism
@@loganriley8225 07 JKU worked fine when parked, then wouldn't restart. Researched and looked at ignition switch. When I removed it, the pin wasn't there. I didn't break it and couldn't find it anywhere. Does this alone keep it from starting? If so, does the entire key assembly have to be replaced and how long did that take you?
