I know how to change a wheel hub but sometimes check out vids before a job just to see what I'm gonna run into. This video was an absolute 11/10. I dont think it could've been any better
Totally agree! I love to do that with everything I do.. For me it's like a quick refresher and additionally I might learn something new, like a new trick or a time saving "pro tip".
I just wanted to say thank you for your video. It was extremely helpful and easy to follow along. I appreciate how easy and the step-by-step Process with the great video of what needed to be done. Most people fly right through it you did an incredible job of showing us what to do
I'm so glad to have found out i could just replace the whole hub assembly instead. The other videos of replacing just the bearing was giving me anxiety.
I have every confidence in successfully completing my project thanks to your video. I can see getting done in an hour.., if your bolts aren't rusted, don't need heat to get them out, it's not in the 20's - 30's , the wind is less then 20-30 miles an hour, AND your under 78 years old !
Thank you so much for this video!! It’s excellent. Thank you for providing the socket sizes and torque specs, extremely helpful. Took this to PepBoys, they wanted $850 for the replacement+labor. You saved me over 3/4 the cost by doing this myself! My only snags were the suspension bolts were torqued down so tight I had to find clever ways of removing them using breaker bars; that and the axel bolt. Super tight. Everything else was a breeze thanks to you. God bless you!!
Straight forward demonstration with no mishmash! Very good information on order of operations for doing this job. I especially liked that you specified both socket sizes and torque specs for reassembly. The one other item that I would find very helpful is a little commentary on getting the replacement parts such as part numbers, reputable suppliers, sources to be Leary of, etc. Thanks for the great video. You have gotten a new subscriber and I look forward to more Jeep Patriot content.
Thanks for the kind words, and I'm glad you found it helpful. As for parts, I do get a lot from Rockauto, but price match Amazon. Don't choose the no name brands if you have a choice, and you'll be pretty well off. I haven't had to return anything, even lesser known manufacturer stuff...yet. Good luck in your projects!
Thank you!! I needed this, I recently bought just the Wheel Bearing itself but the Shops want $300 and up! I can return the Wheel Bearing and get the Hub Assembly instead. Then add this😊
Thanks again for posting your video on this knuckle removal. I spoke to a mechanic and he steered me away from a donut compressor, said I should instead buy an electric impact driver, that the PSI of a small compressor wouldn't take off those ribbed 21mm bolts. So Harbor Freight had a 50% off sale, so now I've moved up into the shade tree mechanics world by buying my first impact driver and set of metric impact sockets. Woohoo! Tomorrow I'll be sitting on my rumpus in the driveway with a new impact tool. I can't wait. And I purchased another sensor because this one is frozen in solid. All in all, sincere "Thanks!" If I need any advice removing this knuckle, I just rewind your video. Happy Memorial Day Coach!
@@stevenclackmusic9805- it'd be Great if people actually Washed off the underneath of their cars after a big snow dump where the roads get salted😶 Or Even Just HOSE them Down With WD40 once a month😉
Why do you call your channel "The Joy of Wrenching" when all I feel like doing is curse hades and launch objects? I've watched your video now about a dozen times over the past three days while my Cheap Compass has been jacked up on the passenger front side and the neighbors are starting to wonder. But every time I get brain freeze I run back inside and watch your video again. You're much too nice. You need to get pissed and throw out a mountain of expletives in your video. The more the better. It's therapy. Anyway Coach, thank you. I just finished putting in new inner and outer tie rods, a new ball joint under the rocker arm and the whole knuckle that includes a new bearing. I came back in because I need to see what your torque specs are. Most of these parts were made in China so I will be repeating this procedure in a few years. Thanks again Coach!
haha, That's funny, and I'm glad it's helping you out. Life's too short to let these sort of things ruin our joy, and we are too blessed to let them! Here's to you finishing the job in peace, and having a great week! Thanks so much for watching too.
Did this job on my 2016 Jeep compass and this video helped me so much!! Had quite a time getting the knuckle off the lower ball joint, other than that it all went smooth!
So glad i stumbled upon this video, im picking up a 2012 patriot on tuesday. She dont need any work done but this will definitely be helpful in the future! Keep up the good work brother!
This video was amazing and very perfect step by step explanation, one of the best.can you do one showing how to check transmission oil fluid on a 2016 Dodge Durango sxt? No one has one video on that specific model. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Thanks.my wife did the filming.makes it easier to show different angles while working, and I hope your job goes easily with some of the tips we shared.
you can put a jack under the bottom control arm and jack it up a bit to meet the strut, at least enough to get one of the knuckle to strut bolts in place.
Great video sir im going to be doing this soon only im up north so im expecting mine to not go as easy. I work at Subaru and some of the techs are telling me I'll need an alignment after I perform this repair. Is this true? Or only if im replacing outer tie rods?
yes, usually it is. It takes longer, and it may take some special tools like a press. If you get parts online like at Rockauto or amazon, the cost of the whole knuckle with bearing is not that much more and you won't have to fight the bearing getting it in and out of the knuckle if there is corrosion.
Excellent video friend I'm doing mine in few weeks mines a 14 jeep Compass glad I see those strut bolts have splines like a wheel stud didn't know that I probably would have just grabbed air gun and tryed zapping those out and round the splines again great video
Anytime the wheel hub spindle comes off, it's a good idea to get it realigned. It will probably be pretty close still, but over time may eat the tires faster.
After I replaced the bearings, the airbag and auto skid symbol appeared on the car's dashboard, I imagine this came from the replacement and I'm sure I didn't damage the sensors, is there anything to do?
probably an abs speed sensor issue. May have pulled/pinched the abs speed sensor wire or the connector isn't plugged in right. Also unbolt and pull out the sensors themselves and check that they aren't damaged or dirty on the ends, look down in the hole where the sensor goes and spin the cv axle to see if any of the pickup area is covered or rusted off
Out of curiosity, is it the same on the driver's side? I had a shop tell me they would have to remove the steering knuckle to do the one on the driver's side. I would like to know if that's true or not. They want to charge me a little over $700 which I think is ridiculous
I have a 2017 patriot and I have had wheel bearing noise for at least 3 or 4 months. I can’t tell which bearing it is. I have tried driving with the door open sticking my head out. My wife driving and we just can’t tell where it is. Any suggestions?
Yeah, it's not a bad idea anytime the struts come apart, but in my experience it doesn't get off that much that it would be noticeable driving along as the holes in the struts don't allow a ton of movement
I can't remember on this one, but often, you can just zip tie the cable out of harm's way if necessary, and finding the exact clip can be a challenge, just have to search for push pin connectors and clips online till you find one.
I have a big problem with your how-to video here. First of all, you're smiling and friendly, qualities not typical for a mechanic. Typical mechanics around here are psychotic, sarcastic pricks. Another thing, that undercarriage is clean. I've eaten off plates dirtier than that. And, your sensor just came out of there way too easy. Lastly, I busted my favorite socket wrench trying to loosen those two 21mm bolts with the ribbed ends. I was on the right end but they were impacted on so tight, only another impact driver could loosen them. Serves me right. I've have to invest in a donut compressor to use at home. All in all your video gave me the confidence to do it myself, but the reality was very different. Please keep posting videos though. I'm looking to get my certification in "shade tree mechanics". Thanks ago Coach on these Jeep videos. :) Much appreciated.
haha, love the comments! and don't worry, I have my moments of rusted seized parts, broken bolts, etc. The channel is Joy of Wrenching, and like Bob Ross who had the Joy of Painting, I try to keep a serene positive spin on things, no problems, just happy little accidents...
8:51 this is the part I’m stuck at. I can’t get it off the ball joint. It’s pried super wide open, been using penetrating oil and every ounce of strength, can’t get it off. Anything more I could be doing?
@@joyofwrenching thank you for this! We got the first side done with lots of soaking it with the oil, waiting, banging on it some more and repeat. Other side is worse so we are repeating the process! Cars are so much fun to work on! Who knew?! 😅😂
